Things I Wish I Would've Told My Mom

1. Don't take it personally when I'm acting moody or upset. It probably has nothing to do with you.

2. There will be some problems that I won't talk to you about, and that's okay. Sometimes I just need to figure things out on my own.

3. Try to see things from my point of view. Try to imagine how much stress I'm under. Think twice about making that backhanded comment.

4. I didn't mean for that to sound so mean. Don't treat me like I did.

5. I'm not as selfish as you think I am.

6. Sometimes I need to talk. Listen. Don't feel the need to reply to every little thing I say. Your advice won't always be great, so it's best to just listen.

7. Remind me that I'm important, that my opinion matters. Try to ask me what I think, and take it into consideration.

8. Don't tell me that I shouldn't be wasting my time with someone. I know they'll hurt me eventually, but it's important that I know for sure.

9. Don't yell at me when I cry. It just makes it all so much worse.

10. You disappoint me too.

This was great. All moms need to read this poem. My mom is very strict, I know its for my good but still. Anyway, moms need to realize that their kids are people too, and we have feelings and beliefs. If parents would take the time, and try to understand their kids, relationships could start. Thanks for writing this, it was great reading this!!!!!!!!!

BlueLangton, this. Was. Awesome. I can think of a hundred things that I can tell my mom. Like, understand my beliefs. Don't make me do things I don't want to. Anyways, I think this isn't classified as poetry, just like jessiethought said, but I understand you might not want to go through that tedious process of unpublishing and publishing and choosing the genre and other things that I'm too lazy to do...

Yet, I know this was very good, and I would love to read it again, but aren't there more things you wish to tell her? I said I have a hundred things, and you only have ten. No. This was totally optional, so don't take my advice.

Good advice; interesting thoughts here. The only real nitpick I have is that you labelled this poetry, but it doesn't feel like poetry. Maybe this should be "other"? If you want this to be poetry, I'd suggest at least changing line lengths and creating line breaks (right now this is formatted like prose) and condensing your language. Poetry is all about condensed, intense language. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I had a hard time categorizing this! Thank you so much for your feedback!

Hello BlueLangton, we all have for sure felt the same from one time to another. It's great that you have shared your feelings here.
