Prologue I

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),

Hi! I'm here to leave a quick review!!

Anyway let's get right to it,

Ever thought that once you encounter another world, you start facing bigger challenges and bigger conflicts? Me? Well…yes, I have. I thought that my life would just be an ordinary one, but I was wrong. I never thought that I—I mean my friends and I would end up waking up in a world that is different from ours. This kind of world we have stumbled upon is like some kind of popular Anime series a director created!

But no…this is not a dream. Everything here is a reality. This world we are in is our challenge, and the enemies we face are our conflicts.

There are these utensils called Roles, Symbols, and Weapons. Our Roles tell us what positions we have, our Symbols depict what kind of people we are, and our Weapons proclaim our fighting style. All the citizens we meet have these kinds of tools, including my friends and me. So the only way to go back home is to keep fighting, and avoid death. If one of us were to lose any of those three utensils, there’s no hope for us surviving in the world my group and I have soon discovered.

My friends were sure that they have disappeared from our world to here from the day of my 14th birthday, but what about me? They disappeared a week before I did. So how did I wake up from our world to here?

Well, I guess I’ll have to find out sooner or later. But right now, I can explain how my first day in Classic Earth went as I was mainly focusing on my last day on Modern Earth.

This is an awesome prologue through and through. I've gotta commend you for even using a prologue, because, in short, most novels these days don't have them! The prologue in my opinion is becoming a lot like the hook shot in the game of basketball these days: a lost art. Here, not only have you decided to use one, but you've also used it very effectively too. Often, when a novelist does decide to use a prologue before getting into their story, it ends up not contributing much to the overarching themes of the book. Here, however, you've laid the foundation for your conflicts, character personalities, and plot very nicely without making it seem like a simple list. You've actually started desk oping your narrator's unique narrative voice before you've even written the first chapter. That was hella cool.

As far as constructive criticism goes, I don't have much for you. Cause like I said, this prologue is awesome. It made me want to find out what happens next and to really become invested in the novel's characters. That's something that writers often struggle with when starting a new book, but you've done a nice job of that here. Do me a favor and give yourself five big old pats on the back. First off, I'd like to say that you've got a really solid idea here. It seems to be a sci-fi/fantasy adventure story. You've got me hooked with this prologue and I can't wait to figure out what happens in the story!

Now, getting down to business. This doesn't need to be in italics. Is there a specific reason that you wrote it in italics? Italics are usually used for character thoughts, dreams, contents of a letter. Things like that. But what you have here is just part of the story.

I feel like this is more a summary than a prologue. All of this information is good to have in a prologue, but I think it would be better if it were written in a different way. Think about it this way. What if you take all of this information and have your main character explain it all while she's exploring this world she's in. Let me clarify. You could start out, for example, with your character waking up in this new world. She/he would be honestly confused and decide to go explore. Then you could have she/he explain how it was her/his 14th birthday and her/his friends had been missing for a week. Make sense? You don't have to do this of course, it's all up to you. I just wanted to give my opinion.

Your story is great. Seriously. Like I said before, I can't wait to read more. I definitely want to know more about this world that your characters are in and why they're there.
