Walk of Shame
The early morning sunlight slips in through the curtains, forcing me awake. I roll over and try to recollect the proceedings of the night before. A piece of paper is lying on the pillow next to my head, and as I reach for it my body screams in agony, too sore to move. But the words on the paper spring me to life and I quickly look for my shoes.
Went to shower & make b-fast, come to the kitchen when you wake up
-Jason
He’s the type that doesn’t know the meaning of a one-night stand. The type that always wants more; a breakfast that leads to an early lunch that will eventually dinner. Prime time, baby, and soon you find yourself in some sort of a relationship that was never meant to happen. There’s clothes all over and I don’t know what’s mine, so I make the decision that a skirt is good enough, I don’t need my shirt.
With my pumps in one hand, and my dignity barely intact I make my way to the hallway, tiptoeing past the bathroom, and into the kitchen. I see the door and I’m almost home free until, out of nowhere, another boy appears out of the kitchen. I silently curse myself for not grabbing a shirt, even if it wasn’t mine. We stand in silence, sizing each other up. This isn’t the boy I slept with last night, this one has more confidence. The type of boy that you can tell is overly cocky and usually gets what he wants from girls much easier than me.
“You’re his first one-night stand, and you’re just going to leave like that?” He says finally, breaking the silence.
"I don’t do breakfast, sorry. Tell him I said bye.” I respond sarcastically.
“I’m not letting you walk outside like that,” he pulls his shirt up over his head and throws it at me. “What’s your name? I might want that back.”
“Kate, and you better say goodbye to it, ‘cause I don’t plan on coming back.” I pull it over my head and walk over to the door, slipping my shoes on as I go.
“I’m gonna call you ‘Commitment Issues Kate’!” He calls as I shut the door behind me.
The apartment building is fairly small and I find the elevator easily. When I step into the lobby I check my pockets and then realize I don’t have any. I left my purse in the apartment somewhere. I turn around to head back up and the elevator doors open. Inside is Mr. Cocky, a half smile on his lips as he reads my anger.
He holds the purse out, “I thought you might need this.” I reach out, but he pulls back. “Uh-ah,” he tisks, “if you want the purse, you have to stay for breakfast. Just talk to him a bit, he’s a pretty fragile kid.”
I pout and step back into the elevator, silent and ready to kill.
“I’m Aiden, by the way.” He stands, smirking at the elevator doors.
I take this time to really examine him without really looking, pretending that I’m just looking at the doors. He has a mop of black hair that he obviously just flips around to look “hot”. His eyes look like a hazel color, but I can’t tell exactly. He’s tall, much taller than my five foot two inches. He hasn’t put a shirt on, leaving his defined chest exposed. He most definitely works out more than needed, clearly to keep the blonde Barbie dolls entertained.
“Enjoying the view?” He smirks.
“You wish,” I roll my eyes. It’s one thing for him to catch me looking, but to think I find him remotely attractive? Ugh. I eat guys like this for breakfast.
The elevator doors open and I stomp over to the apartment like a ten year old instead of a twenty-two year old. The boy from last night, Jason, is nowhere to be seen, and I sit on the couch cross-legged.
Aiden throws the purse on the coffee table in front of me. “I trust you not to leave,” he says, making his way back to the kitchen.
I grab my phone and check my messages. Two from my roommate, Jenna, and one from booty-call Brad.

Booty-call Brad Jun. 26 12:58 am
up for sum fun, hun? call me.
I ignore Brad’s and text Jenna:
Hey, babe. I fell asleep, big mistake. I need you to pick me up. I’m at some apartments just up the street from that bistro we ate at the other night. The name starts with a ‘C’. Apartment number 26. Get here ASAP. Emergency.
I set it down and look around. There’s some pretty intense artwork and a really nice TV with an X-Box hooked up to it. A desk occupies the corner to my left with a laptop. To my right is the kitchen with a few windows. It’s pretty big and holds a small dining room table with a few chairs. My phone chimes and I grab it immediately.

on my way. gotta bat, just in case. be there in 10.
A smile spreads across my face, knowing she’s completely serious. I put my phone back in my purse just as whom I’d assume to be Jason walks in and smiles at me. My heart sinks as I realize I’ve messed up this time. I made a bad choice; this boy looks way too friendly, like a puppy. He looks too innocent. Did I take his virginity? No, I don’t remember needing to teach him anything…oh, lord. He just got out of a relationship. I can see it in his lost little puppy eyes; his shaggy blonde hair, his blue eyes, his average…everything. I’m only the second woman he’s had sex with. How did this happen? How drunk was I last night?
My phone chimes and I grab it like I’m holding on to the remnants of my sanity.
