Third period was the ‘something new’ I’d felt in the air that morning. There was a new math teacher for our school; supposedly he was good.
“So, I heard this guy was supposed to be like the Martin Luther King Jr. of teachers,” Logan explained to his best friend Ben.
“He’s still a boring teacher. Who cares for math?” Ben Rollins shrugged. “Tomorrow we have our sports, that’s all that matters. Right Bristol?”
“You got it,” I agreed.
“Do you know for sure it’s a guy?” asked Jane.
“Yeah, for all we know it could be some young, sexy, busty blonde,” I teased as I looked at Logan and Ben.
“In which case I’ll be getting an A this year in math,” Logan smiled as he knocked knuckles with Ben.
“Jerk,” I laughed.
“Good morning class,” a man’s voice interrupted us. A man had come into the room. He had his back to us as he went to the board. Nobody said anything as he wrote his name on the board. He must’ve been our teacher, Mr. Faris.
He suddenly turned around.
“I said good morning class,” he repeated.
“Good morning,” The whole class said in unison.
Mr. Faris smiled, “Ah, you really do care.”
A couple of girls giggled. Mr. Faris was actually gorgeous.
“Does anyone have any questions before I began?” he asked. Logan raised his hand. “Uh, yeah?”
“Do we have to learn math today? It’s the first day of school. We should just relax,” said Logan.
“Yeah,” everyone agreed.
“Well, all right. That’s cool,” Mr. Faris sat on his desk. “What’ll we do to pass time?”
“We could talk about our inner feelings,” Logan joked.
I rolled my eyes and laughed along with the rest of the class.
“Or, we could go around the room and introduce ourselves,” said Mr. Faris. “Starting with you.” He pointed to me.
“Well,” I began.
“Stand up,” said Mr. Faris.
I did so.
“I’m Bristol Dawson, aka your new head cheerleader,” I smiled as I looked at everyone in the room.
“Ms. Dawson, tryouts aren’t until tomorrow, how do you know if the head position’s yours?” Mr. Faris asked as he looked at me.
I shrugged, “I’m Bristol Dawson, what I want, I get.”
“Yes you do,” Logan cheered.
As I sat back down I noticed that Mr. Faris was staring at me, he didn’t believe that I was going to get head position on the cheerleading squad, but in time he would.
“Pick someone else to go Ms. Dawson,” said Mr. Faris.
I looked around the room, the only people I really was interested in were my friends and I already knew all about them.
“Uh, how about you,” I suggested.
Mr. Faris smiled and stood up. “I’m Mr. Faris, your new calculus teacher. Um, what can I say? I love math and numbers. Give me an equation and I’d love to solve it,” he began. “I’m a little young so I know what’s ‘cool’ or ‘in.’ And my door’s always open if you need help.”
Most of the girls were swooning over him. I couldn’t blame them. Mr. Faris was the most attractive teacher at our school now. He was wearing a nice black suit with a burgundy dress shirt on underneath, it all fit snuggly against his in shape frame. He had blonde hair, and he wore glasses. When he talked I felt as if had to listen. He sounded like a jock when he talked. His voice was invoking. I mean, most teachers were older and their voices could put you to sleep; Mr. Faris was young and so it was easy to pay attention to what he was saying. I had to say this year I’d be getting an A in math; there was no way I’d fail with a teacher like Mr. Faris.
After a few more kids went up time ran out. So we just talked to each other before the bell rang.
“What do you think of this new guy?” Ben asked Logan.
“He’s okay. Let’s wait until he starts teaching us,” Logan shrugged.
I snuck a peek at Mr. Faris; he was talking to Mona St. James, my enemy. Mona and I’d been competitive ever since we were young. If there was one other person capable of being head cheerleader, it was Mona. Though I hated to admit it, Mona was just as pretty and flawless as I was. Where I had purple black hair and pale blue eyes with a heart shaped face, Mona had blonde hair, green eyes, and a perfect square shaped face. Where I had a shiny red convertible Audi, Mona had a shiny black convertible BMW. I wore Vera Wang; Mona wore Prada. If my heels were four inches tall, Mona wore her heels six inches tall. I dated Logan; Mona dated the next hottest guy in school, Cameron Lanter. We were rivals, right down to our looks and boyfriends.
I stood up and headed over to Mr. Faris.
“Ms. Dawson, to what do I owe the pleasure?” Mr. Faris turned from Mona and looked my way. I nearly gasped, I hadn’t noticed how cute he was from afar, but up close he was breathtakingly handsome. He had the prettiest blue eyes I’d ever seen. They were like a sea blue of some sort. All in all, he didn’t look like a teacher. He looked like some young, single, college guy.
I could barely open my mouth to speak.
“Uh, I just wanted to see how my new teacher was adjusting,” I smiled.
“Uh, great actually,” Mr. Faris smiled to me. “This is my first class, and I think it went well.”
“Is this your first year teaching?” I asked.
“Sorta,” Mr. Faris blushed.
I found myself getting comfortable with him. Even though he was older, I felt like he was
one of us kids.
“What do you mean by sorta?” I smiled.
“I guess, yeah,” Mr. Faris shrugged.
“How old are you exactly?” Mona asked
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes; it was just like her to steal his attention from me.
“Gee Mona, stalk much?” I sighed.
Mr. Faris laughed a little. “I’m twenty-five actually.”
Mona twirled a strand of her blonde hair around her finger. “I don’t know if I can call
you Mr. Faris, I mean, you’re my brother’s age.”
“Well Ms. St. James, I’ll call you Ms., and you’ll call me Mr., deal?” Mr. Faris looked
to Mona for a response.
“Sure, we’ll try,” Mona shrugged as she walked away.
Mr. Faris looked back to me. “You see it’s all about respect Ms. Dawson, you’ve got to give respect to gain it.”
I nodded, “If you really believe that, sure.”
Mr. Faris laughed, “We’ll see how long that works, huh?”
I found myself laughing with him. He was young, cute, and naïve apparently. One could only imagine what havoc laid ahead come the rest of the school year.
“Hey Bris, stop playing teacher’s pet and get over here!” Logan yelled to me.
I looked over to Mr. Faris. “Duty calls.”

I like the content a lot.
I don't know if it was just me, but it seemed to be moving really slow. I would try and add bits that might pick up the pace. On the other hand it might just be me.
I also think you need a new opening, I know this is chapter 2 but you still need a good hook. This piece didn't seem to have a hook at all.
It has potential but needs work.
PM for anything.
