Glenn

One drop a day keeps the pain away

"Go look for some food Glenn.."

"Why me, I already did yesterdayyy" I fake pouted as I slowly open the tent's door, a joint laying limply on my lips.

"You know why." My father turned his dirty bearded head to mine, a stern look on his face. His expression saying more than words could.

"Alright, alright. So strict on this, jeez." I slowly pocket the joint as I start to get out.

I grabbed my sweater from inside the tent, and I slipped on my combat boots. Kissing my father's dirty forehead as I walk by "I'll be back soon then pops" I kept my lips near his head, staying a moment longer, breathing in the smell of dirt and sweat, you get used to it after awhile, being homeless and all. He nodded and turned his head back to the bonfire, keeping his hands near to stay warm.

I walked across the other tents, the other people. We struggle, but we're happy, some of us. I fucking hate my life, I always have, but it doesn't matter now, I have more important matters at hand than some stupid feelings.

I trip on someone's foot. "Watch it!" I heard a gurgling voice yell at me as I fall forward, landing on the rocky pavement, I felt my knee scrape a layer of skin off. I winced slightly, but I said nothing. I got up once again, adjusting my sweater and walking on.

The alley is dark, and musty. I walk methodically further into the dark corner of the town. The part they leave out maps, the type of place people come to ruin their lives. I hear bikes in the background but I don't bother turning my head, they're not important to my plan.

I feel a sharp twist on my back, knocking me forward, the pain feels brutal. I hear my shirt and jacket get ripped through. It feels as if my skin got ripped off my back with a single pull as I fall to the floor, the pain entering my own flesh as my skin peels off, I hear the sound of my ribs snapping and cracking lightly with the slosh of blood and bone as I scream my lungs out, the pressure unbearable against my open flesh. The pain slowly drags upwards between my shoulder blades, as it rips more of my skin off only to dig in further, struggling under the pressure, I feel my eyes roll upwards at the agony as my own blood colours my now pale face, my screams cutting off as the sound of my back being torn apart fills the alley.

The pain suddenly stops, the pressure being removed off my back, I take heavy breaths as I feel my own lungs exposed, feeling the cold air. I breath in as if air was just invented, as I feel every breath I take, every beat my heart makes, I feel my blood pooling out around me as it squirts out in little places.

Thank god for that weed keeping me alive.

I feel hands grab my shoulder pulling me upwards. Wrapping something nice and comfy around my waist, wincing as the feeling tightens slightly.

"holy shit.. oh my god.. what do I do!? are you okay!?"

I look up, barely turning my head to see a boy not much younger than me holding me by my side, he had ruffled greyish hair, grey and green mixed eyes, and his face is splashed with my blood and bits of my flesh, his nose scrunched in worry.

I grumbled in response. my throat dry and tired.

I feel him pick me up with light struggle, and I hear his footsteps turn frantic, he's running, I groan and wince as the injuries get rubbed, slowly blacking out.

I come too once again, and the last thing I feel is dirt getting piled over me, and yelling before blacking out, maybe for good.

Hmmm no resolution on what’s happening with the other two. But then again, this story’s title promises a “roundup” of addicted so maybe we need some more characters to introduce so that we can later round them all up.
Yes these are the things that become super relevant when it is nearly 1am at the end of Review Day~

Second thought is if we maybe could be finding a second adjective other than “dirty” to describe Glenn’s dad? =D

I do like that at least he’s involved with his child. Unlike the mother from last chapter. Sure, he makes Glenn go get food but …this almost feels like proper parenting, given their extraordinary situation?

*break bc I literally fell asleep writing your review; I’m so sorry, I swear it wasn’t your story but my stubbornness of finishing up Review Day*

In any case, back to Glenn. I like the characterization you show when Glenn falls and barely reacts despite getting injured.

That said, the other injury that starts with a twist on Glenn’s back.. I feel the entire paragraph is a bit too much? Especially because we only get descriptions of pain etc but not how exactly this happens?

Yeikksss ahhhh “I feel my own lungs exposed” What a sentence! Very good!!

“Thank god for that weed keeping me alive.” Lol then it is the weed entirely, no? XD Wonder if Glenn gains… some supernatural power from the addiction?
Also.. just what really happened?
Right now, I believe that any time Glenn gets injured, even minor injuries, something fatal will happen like this, as if any injury will turn into a fullscale body horror like here.
(Why do I have to think of Fairy King Harlekin’s Disaster power from 7 Deadly Sins?)

Oha I wonder if that person that picked Glenn up… If he actually caused the injuries, more by accident? And now he thinks he’s killed Glenn and is burying the body…

hello there! i hope you're not getting tired of me dropping reviews on these pieces lolol

i just wanted to start off by saying this is wayy better in terms of spelling and capitalization compared to the previous pieces. kudos! there's really just the unnamed boy freaking out that isn't capitalized.

i do have some questions about the logistics of this piece, though.

first of all, tents usually don't have doors. i'd recommend either clarifying what kind of tent it is or change it to something like tarp, zipper or flap.

second of all you say he falls to the floor, but as far as i understand he's outside, so i'd recommend changing this to falling to the ground.

lastly i was curious about his injuries. at first i thought he got ran over by a bike but i don't know which type of bike is capable of cracking your ribs and ripping your skin off through both a jacket and sweater (plus you never actually mention him putting on a jacket, only a sweater). maybe a motorbike but in that case i'd recommend clarifying that.
also, if your spine is likely crushed and your lungs are exposed, wouldn't you die? of course his description of the pain can be subjective because things often feel worse than they are, but i'd recommend clarifying that in that case.

lastly i just wanted to compliment the cliffhanger, you're really good at those. i've definitely seen improvement over these chapters, and i'm looking forward to seeing where this is going!
