Anonymous POV-
I walk out of my class, hearing the teacher yelling behind me. I flick him off before turning right and walking toward my locker. Did he really think I was just gonna sit there while he talked to me like that? I don't care who you are, no one talks down to me like that.
I'm taken out of my thoughts when the door in front of me swings open and a crying girl comes running out. Zoey? I jog behind her, keeping a distance so she doesn't hear me. I stop around the corner when she goes to her locker. I desperately want to go over and comfort her, but I know she doesn't want to see me. I'm no good for her, even if she wanted me I would only mess her life up. She fumbles with the lock before standing perfectly still for a few seconds. She opens it on the first try this time and I see the envelope fall out. She reaches down and picks it up, this time I see a small form on her lips and she reads the note I put onto it. I feel my smile fade As her face turns to sadness again for a second before putting the envelope in her bag, shutting her locker and walking away toward the school doors.
I stand there for a good five minutes thinking about what made her upset again when I hear an announcement telling me to come to the office. The whole walk to the office all I can think about is why was she even crying in the first place.
Zoey's POV (About 9:40 that night)
(Song is Stressed Out by 21 Pilots)
I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink,
But now I'm insecure and I care what people think.
My name's 'Blurryface' and I care what you think
Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol' days,
When our momma sang us- I decline Brooke's call, again. She has been calling all day since school has been out, this is the 7th call. I haven't even bothered to listen to the voicemails either.
I shut my phone off all together before walking into my kitchen and searching through the pantry for my ramen. I mentally congratulate myself when it is found before turning and grabbing a bowl from the drying rack. I fill a bowl with water before putting the ramen in and placing it in the microwave.
I hear my doorbell ring and my eyes narrow. I look at the clock and its 9:47. Who would be coming here this late? Actually, who would be coming here at all? Only three people know where I live, my mom, Andy, and Brooke. It hits me that Brooke could be at my door and I sigh. There is no way I'm answering the door, all the lights are off near the door so she can't see I'm here. If I just stay silent she wo- BEEEEEP BEEEEP. I scream at the sudden noise and turn to the microwave to see I set the wrong time and it has gone off.
"Zoe, I know you're in there." My body stiffens when I hear her voice from outside my door. "Please let me in, we need to talk." I feel myself about to break down again but fight it.
"We have nothing to talk about! Go away!" I yell toward the door. I hear the door jiggle and realize she's trying to open it. I guess it's a good ting I always lock my doors. I sneak over silently to the door and look out the peephole and I feel myself want to go hide. Standing outside my door is Brooke, but for a split second I could see Carrie and Molly around the corner. It looked like Molly had a camera in her hand.
"Zoe I'm sorry. I didn't mean what I said about you earlier." I want to say something back. I want to swing open the door yelling but I can't bring myself to do it. I can't bring myself to do anything but just stand there with my back against the door. My supposed best friend betrayed me the way she did and now brought the girls who have been tormenting me since grade school to my apartment, the only place I have ever been safe from them.
With shaky legs I walk to my coffee table and grab a piece of paper and sharpie. I wrote a note before folding it and slipping it under the door.
It read "For years I trusted you, and you have trusted me. You called me your friend and I foolishly believed you. You have shown me your true colors and I'm sorry for ever believing you in the first place. I asked you to leave Brooke, please don't make this harder than it has to be." I watch as she picks it up and her eyes water slightly. She shakes her head before looking right into the peep hole as if she can see me. She stares at it for what seems like forever before walking away toward her real friends.
I slowly walk to my room and lie down. I plug in my phone, turning on my music softly as I do so. I fall asleep shortly with tears in my eyes at the thought of what has happened today, and this is only the beginning.
Because I'm happy, happy, happy, hap-. I slam my hand down on my alarm. I really can't stand that song. I get up and do my daily routine, showering, eating, and getting all my school stuff together. Everything goes by smoothly and I walk out of my apartment with no issues. I make sure to lock up before jogging down the stairs and to my car parked in the back of the building. I unlock it and get in with no problems, so far so good. My ride to school was short, which is normal since I only live about half a mile away. I used to walk but other kids would tend to throw things at me as they drove by.
I pull into the parking lot before checking the time, 7:03. First hour doesn't start 8:10. I grab my bag out of passenger seat before getting out and locking my doors. I take a deep breathe before walking into the school and toward my locker. I'm mostly alone except a few stray students loitering the halls, waiting for there friends to show up.
I hear someone walking toward me and turn to see TJ. Why does he have to be here so early? I ignore him and keep searching through my bag for my supplies. He stands next to me and I realize something, his locker is right next to mine. Maybe he saw who put the envelope in my locker. Should I ask him? What if he thinks I'm crazy? But this has been bothering me since it happened. I finally work up the courage to say something when my body tenses. I hear two sets of footsteps behind me and instantly know who is coming.
"Hey buddy!" I hear a loud smack and see Cole smack TJ in the back. I quickly shut my locker, even though I only grabbed a a notebook and pencil. I turn and walk fast away from them, not wanting to face them after yesterday. I can hear Dominic making rude comments behind me as I walk and am thankful when I round the corner. I slow down to my normal speed before putting in my headphones and walking to the library. I sit down at my usual spot in the back by the history section no one ever comes back here. I spend a good 45 minutes here before getting up again and walking back to my locker, I need my materials for math still. The hallway is now packed with students. There is still about 25 minutes until first hour starts so I take my time opening my locker. I get it open and a note falls out toward me. I catch it and stare at it in confusion.
I look around before opening it and reading it it myself, assuming it must be another cruel note from someone. I feel a smile form on my lips as I read the little read piece of paper. "You may not know who I am, but I will always be here for you to protect you. When you cry, I will wipe your tears. When you are happy, I shall share your smile with you. One day I will show myself to you Zoey, but until then remember to smile and share your beauty with the world." I hear the warning bell ring signally only 15 minutes until first hour and realize I have been staring at the note for almost 10 minutes now.
I fold it up and put it in to notebook before grabbing my materials and walking to class. I sit down and continue writing until the bell rings and our teacher walks in. He walks back to me with a green slip, handing it to me before walking back to us desk and pulling out a magazine. I look at the paper and see it's a slip saying I was absent from 4th-7th hour. I put it in my folder before continuing with my story.
The door to the room open about 15 minutes after class has started and in walks TJ, I hadn't even noticed he wasn't here. He sits down next to me silently. He has nothing with him and just sits there staring at nothing.
At about 5 minutes to the end of class I begin to feel like I'm being watched. I peek over out of the corner of my eye and see TJ staring down at my arm. I look and see my sleeve is slightly up and you can clearly see the scars and fresh wounds from yesterday. I quickly pull my sleeve down and put my arm down on my lap. After a few minutes of me sitting there, shaking slightly the realization hits me that he saw that, he saw the scars and knows now. He speaks quietly, not looking at me. "Did you do that yesterday, after what happened?" He has no emotion in his voice, and I can't tell by his facial expression what he is thinking.
I look down at my hands in my lap and stay silent. He doesn't really care, I'm just another skank, that's what he said. "Zoey." Still no emotion, but this time he is looking down at me, waiting for a response. How am I suppose to answer this? How am I suppose to tell him, of all people, what happened yesterday.
"It doesn't matter." I say so quiet I didn't even think he could hear me. I can see out of the corner of my eye his jaw tighten slightly. He looks, irritated? Upset? I can't tell. He's about to talk again when the bell rings. I grab my things and practically run out of the room toward my math class. I sit down and watch a floor of students rush in last minute, Andy being one of them. What if he's like Brooke? He hangs out with a few of the popular guys, how do I know he isn't spreading lies about me to? He looks at me with confusion before sitting down next to me.
"You're in the wrong spot." I point out, not knowing what else to say to him.
"I don't care, what's going on? Brooke cal-" I cringe at her name as if someone had just hit me in the chest. "led me last night. She wouldn't tell me what's going on, just that I needed to talk to you today. So what's going on between you two?" The bell rings and our teacher walks in. I stay silent but can feel Andys eyes staring at me. What if I tell him what happened and he agrees with her? What if he already does and is just trying to play me now?
"Andrew, why are you not in your assigned seat?" Mrs. Johnson says sternly. She is not patient at all with Andy, she's the only teacher who will call him by his full name.
"Me and Zoe need to speak out in the hallway, it's important." She glares at him for a moment before looking at me. I guess the upset look on my face made her give in because she agreed even though I was mentally screaming for her to say no. "Thank you." He grabs my hand and ever part of me is telling me to pull away and stay here. I follow behind him with my head down and listen as the door closes behind us and we are left alone in the hallway. "Spill."
I look up at him for only a second and can see the worry in his eyes. Maybe he isn't like her, maybe he's still my friend. I don't even realize I'm crying until I feel him wipe a tear away from my cheek. "Zoe, please tell me what's going on."
I clear my throat, it's really dry now. "Brooke lied about me. She was never really my friend." I say quietly. Andy looks at me, clearly confused.
"What do you mean, of course she is your friend. Why would you ever think that?"
Last night comes back to my mind and I shake my head. "She was spreading lies about me to her real friends in the bathroom. Then brought them to my apartment, I didn't let them in. I don't know what they would have done it I had. She brought them to my apartment Andy, that was the only place I was safe." I can't read his face as he stares at me. He wipes another tear before pulling me in for a hug. I relax and hug him back, happy to know he still cares about me.
"I'll make sure to talk to her. She won't bother you anymore Zoe, I promise I'll do whatever I can to stop it." His embrace tightens slightly and I return it. The moment is quickly ruined when the door opens and Mrs. Johnson peaks her head out. She sees my red face as I pull away and she looks at me with sympathy.
"We are having a quiz to see what you know today. You both can go down the the counselors office if you want." She says nicely. She has always pitied me, ever since I had her for algebra 2. Both times.
"Thank you." I say, trying to force a smile. She smiles a sad smile before handing us both the quiz and our things. He wraps his arm around my shoulder protectively as we walk down to the counselor. It's good to know at least one person is on my side.

Me and my friend were reading your story and when we got to the end we didn't want it to be over!! Jeez you've got me hooked!

Now there is one thing that I think you should look at. You forgot words in a few places.
" I flick him off "- I'm not sure if you spelled it like that on purpose or not.
"I see a small form on her lips"- Did you mean a small smile?
""led me last night."- If I were you I'd use a hyphen, but that's just my idea!
Also, I'd like to know if you purposefully put a "y" at the end of Zoe when the anonymous person was speaking and when TJ said her name.
I honestly can't wait for more! Please keep me updated
sincerely,
M
Thank you for pointing those out, I did a quick check but never a real re-read to correct because I wanted to get it posted. Also I'm not giving any hints on who Anonymous is, his identity will be kept a secret until the right time comes. Thanks for reading and giving me feed back on the chapter
Yeah you're welcome
Ooh I like this! I like this a lot! I see a bit of a love interest, hmm? Oh never mind, I'll find out eventually
I really love where you are going with this and I really was to punch Brooke in her big mouth for what she did to Zoe. I have a friend who is almost exactly like Zoe, and I'm trying to help her with her self harm because of bullies. This is why this story speaks to me on a personal level.
The very first couple paragraphs didn't make sense to me. If you could clarify who is speaking that would be very helpful. Also in the sentence; "I right a note before folding it and slipping it under the door.", 'right' should be 'wrote'.
Other that those little nit grits, I absolutely want to read more of this story and watch Zoe one up Brooke!
Keep me posted!

For now "Anonymous" is someone from school I'm not going to reveal just yet. His identity will be shown not to far into the story though. And thank you for pointing out that I used the wrong wording, I never would I realized it if you hadn't. Thank you for reading!
