The writer- By Ravena
The reader- By AlexWrites

A mahogany desk calls to me
And on its surface, my instruments
To compose my latest symphony
Which shall I choose this day?
Will I become the poet, returning
To the quill, like vintage artists?
Or will I become the author, opening
The laptop, with some precise structure?
As rain patters against the window
Mood boards cast their shadows
There’s a flood of inspiration around me;
Preserved leaves and insects hang still
Alongside sketches of ominous buildings
And notes so dense, there seems no end
In time, I feel that “click,” a trigger
To pick up anything and just write
Line by line, it all spills onto the page
It seems like it's all just imagination,
But it's laced by the deepest realities
Then I stop—that feeling strikes again
A taunting question, in every project
“Will this be your next big break?
Or just another shameful fail?”
I battle, grappling, fighting until
I can finally force through the block
Sometimes, you have to take the risk
Toward your dream, a leap of faith

A rough day knocks me down;
I cope the only way I know how
Stopping at my usual bookstore-
By the city fountain, at sunset
The bell chimes as I cross threshold
And transcend into another world
I wave to the attendant, smiling wide
Before I zone out thinking, fleetingly
Scanning all the shelves & aisles;
For a story that calls out to me
Searching even harder than;
A knight would- his princess
Overwhelmed by choices, I walk.
Suddenly, a cover catches my eye
I know that you're not supposed to
judge a book by what it says outside,
But can you really blame me when-
It makes such tempting promises
I press it to my chest comfortingly
Flipping its fresh pages, taking in;
The unmistakable aroma of ink
Tracing the softcover corners,
With my delicate fingertips
My anxious soul is now calm,
Having found my latest pick
To read and lose myself in

Time has passed since the last release
I wait for reviews and ratings to hit
The ruthless critiques have numbed me
But there’s still an inherent sting, after
You bleed yourself between the pages
And something hits different, when you feel
Like you’re disappointing your own fans
I don’t know you, O generous reader
But I welcome you to my crafted world
It’s not perfect, but if it makes you smile
Even once, that is a victory to me

Mother would always say-
"Don't ever meet your idols"
And so I won't pass that line
I get my words across instead,
Addressing you a letter in adoration
Confessing how much I love you
...and your captivating prose
We may never really meet
But revel quietly, knowing-
Your writing touched my life
It'll stay in my heart for eternity

As I gently unseal the letter's envelope
It’s like unsealing the sweetest honey
…and a reminder why I chose this path
No more doubts, no more hesitation
Even if ratings are low or profits dip
For you, kind reader, I will write again

I walk back there, after a year-
Knowing it'll only disappoint
But if I indeed find a book, that is;
Even half as good as what you wrote
Who knows, it might just be worth
going in that bookstore again

Hello there, human and Ravena! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!

Shalt we commence with the jinxed S’more?

Top Graham Cracker - This is a poem about a writer and a reader, both with their own problems in life, but still pursuing what makes them smile, because they help each other out.

Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I have no recommendations to make as of right now, but if you would like to edit this, then you may.

Chocolate Bar - I love how you both describe both the reader and the writer to be having their own struggles in life, but still participating in writing/reading to make their hearts happy. There is a special kind of bond between the reader and the writer, a deep kind of understanding, even if they never meet in person. This was quite a lovely love letter.

Closing Graham Cracker - Overall, a fantastic poem on how writing can help a reader out in the world, even if the writer does not think that their work is very good. This was relatable and sweet to read on Creepmas Eve and so, I wish you and Ravena…

A spooktacular Creepmas Eve!

Thank you the appreciation, creeperfeverdreams! Your kind words are all the encouragement we need.

Hey friendos! Awesome seeing you two collab (less awesome that it’s a poem and I’ll feel like I can’t really help! But regardless, I shall do my best!)

Okay, I keep reading the first lines and I think I rly like that “mahogany calls to me” already rhymes (yes while leaving out a few words here and there) and that it also kinda fits in rhythm-wise with “symphony”.
Feels like this one doesn’t quite fit tho? “Which shall I choose this day?”

Then I was in the zone again just marvelling at the poem :3 Until this line also doesn’t feel quite right to me: “But it's laced by the deepest realities” like the syllable count falls short or smthing…

Neat start for the writer!

Starting to think there is something abt the off-rhythm lines that I am missing since Alex’ section also has them. WHY IS POETRY SO DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. You scare me. It’s rly good.

Kinda don’t like this cliché “A knight would- his princess”

I like this line “It makes such tempting promises”

Hhahaha don’t we all??? “I wait for reviews and ratings to hit”

LOVE this:

But there’s still an inherent sting, after
You bleed yourself between the pages

Also love this:
We may never really meet
But revel quietly, knowing-
Your writing touched my life

Aww I really liked your poem, good job!! The ending was also very sweet :3
