I want to write a poem,
But I don’t know what to say.
The words won’t flow in their usual way.
I want to write about the thoughts inside my head
And discuss the feelings swirling in my heart,
But I don’t know where to start.
My mind just keeps on wandering
And moving thoughts too fast,
Leaving me at the place of last.
The words won’t come.
I just can’t think of what to write.
The words are just too far out of sight.
I don’t have time to rhyme.
One rhythm, two rhythm, three rhythm, four—
And yet the beat still sounds poor.
The pencil lies still on paper blank.
The paper blank stares back at me.
As for me, I don’t know what I want the poem to be.
Onomatopoeia has been shot down with a bang.
Alliteration is down in the dirt with the dogs.
Personification won’t dance from my lips.
Similes won’t flow like a river.
Rhyme ain’t worth a dime.
I want to write a poem,
But I just don’t know what to say…

This was absolutely awsome. The title is of course a big draw-in, and the fact that it isn't a love poem makes it an instant success! But you have exceeded my already high expectations. One of your major strengths here is making the reader feel clever. I was smugly reading through this thinking "I know what onomatopoeia means, aren't I clever. " and "I understand alliteration. Huzzah! " An instant win.
I love the flow of the poem. When I say flow, I mean a combination of the syllable pattern, and the rhyme pattern. It sounds like a professional poem, which greatly increases the already abundant irony.
Hope this helps,
Take That You Fiend!

This is an awesome topic for writing a poem which no one could think of. And the amazing thing is the ironic lines used in this poem !!! This is one of the best poems i have ever read.. The line which i liked the most --" The pencil lies still on paper blank.
The paper blank stares back at me."
After reading this poem, anyone would feel that nothing is better than writing and reading poems... What i feel is- if a great poem like this can be written without any specific topic, what would be the result if the theme was something great???This poem makes us think a lot and is very interesting!!!
Hey there! Isha here to review

Excellent idea, but execution could always use a little work.
First off, this is a pretty dandy little idea. Writing about what you can't write is the ultimate mark of frustration, and I totally understand your plight. Not to mention, I'd imagine that it'd eventually get the much sought-after creative juices flowing a little bit just to get something down on paper.
Anyway. Whereas this idea is, technically, a cute and expressive way of getting your brain to function in a literary fashion, it was not very well-executed, I didn't find. The flow was increasingly choppy, especially towards the end, and the rhymes were not very well thought-out. Or, maybe they were, but regardless, they just didn't... work. They felt forced, and distorted and broke up the flow of the poem far more than they added to it.
The lines themselves, I found to be dull and unoriginal. And when you end dull and unoriginal with a bad rhyme scheme, the entire thing pretty much just goes to the dogs. Now, obviously, a poem about how you can't write a poem isn't going to be full of poetic verse and excellent metaphors and similes, and I'll definitely give you that. However, a skim over word choice and flow probably do you a world of good. Also, I would suggest reading up on metric verse, if you haven't already. Typically, rhyming poems just don't work unless they follow a structure, and if there's a followed structure here, it's impossible to tell.
This is probably something that those who write rhyming poems get a lot (and I think that it's because, generally, people just don't do the research involved in writing a good, structured rhyming poem. It's not because all rhyming poems suck, or because the writer is a bad poet), but I think that this would have worked a lot better if you didn't slave over said rhymes. The flow would have been easier, and it would have left you a lot more wiggle room.
Not a terrible piece, no, but I figured that a harsh review after a few that were generally all praise couldn't hurt anything.
Good job and keep writing,

Wow! This work here, describes its narrator's inability to construct a poem, that too in a charmingly poetic way. What an irony! The narrator can easily be generalized to represent most if not all of us here at YWS and every amateur poet around the world. All of those readers shall relate almost instantly with this poem. That's for sure!
It seems genius when you actually use the exact literary devices when you are explaining your lack of understanding of them. That gives a whole new humorous level to the poem.
"

Alliteration is down in the dirt with the dogs.
Personification won’t dance from my lips.
Similes won’t flow like a river.
Rhyme ain’t worth a dime."
Oh! And in the line "I just can’t think of what write", I think you missed a "to" . Please correct that.
And thank you for writing!
Pen here with a revieeeew~
This is literally perfect. It's great! And I love how ironic it is, yano? I love your use of literary devices as you mentioned them.
I have no problems with the structure or grammar, or even punctuation. So, that's pretty much perfect.
Now, I'd normally mention a few of my favorite lines, but I love all of them, so.. That's that.
Good Job, and Keep Writing!

Hey there 0o0Redrum0o0!

First of all, I like the irony. xD
And of course, I absolutely love the poem! I love how you described everything and the rhythm was a bit off in the last part but that doesn't really matter. The poem's amazing and no one's gunna sue you for that part only.
I especially love this part,
"Onomatopoeia has been shot down with a bang.
Alliteration is down in the dirt with the dogs.
Personification won’t dance from my lips.
Similes won’t flow like a river.
Rhyme ain’t worth a dime."
Anyway, it was a nicely written poem and I like the mention of the literary devices such as personification AND YOU EVEN USED THE LITERARY DEVICES WHERE YOU MENTIONED THEM. THAT IS MY GOD, ABSOLUTE TALENT. WOW. I JUST NOTICED THAT NOW. WOW!
You're amazing!
Keep writing,
~ Gigi
