A/n: This is a parody of the song Cell Block Tango in a musical called Chicago. You can watch it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrrz54UtkCc), but be warned that they aren't wearing the what people would call adequate clothing. Also, I can't write what I believe is Hungarian, so I settled for Dutch and a translation is included. Enjoy!
And now the six
confused authors of YWS’s Writing Café,
In their rendition
of ‘The Writer’s Block Tango’
Pop! Six! Squish! Uh huh, YWS, Lipshitz! (x3)
They had it coming,
they had it coming,
They only have
themselves to blame!
If you had tried it,
if you had written it,
I betcha you
would’ve done the same
Pop! Six! Squish! Uh huh, YWS, Lipshitz! (x2)
You know how people
have these little habits
and go and do their
own thing? Like Kayla!
Kayla kept jumping
around. No, not jumping, Pop!
So I was writing
this one day
And everything’s
going well
and the characters
are being obedient,
and then there’s
Kayla
riding a dragon in
the middle of a romance and, jumping,
No, not jumpin’,
poppin’!
So, I said to her, I
said,
“You better
listen to what I say instead of jumpin’ around.” and she
did
So I told Kayla’s
side character to pick up the shotgun
and fire two warning
shots into her head.
They had it coming,
they had it coming,
They only have
themselves to blame!
If you had tried it,
if you had written it,
I betcha you
would’ve done the same
I created a Mary
Jane in my Nano novel about two years ago,
she told me she was
unique, and I loved her right away
So, I started
writing about her.
She’d talk to
characters, ride out plot twists, sit down, and we’d talk.
Then I found out,
not a curse word in sight, she’d told me,
not a curse word at
all!
Not only was she
swearing through my book, but with guys!
One of those
players, you know.
So that night, when
she started to talk,
I deleted all her
words and made her mute,
You know some
characters just can’t hold their dialogue.
They had it
coming, they had it coming
They took an author
out of line
And then they used
us and they abused us!
It was cruel, but
not a crime!
Now, I’m
simply writing my novel
Carvin’ up a
storm of war for drama
minding my own
business
in storms my
co-writer Markus in an angry rage
“You been
changing the plotline!”
He says.
He was crazy, and he
kept on shouting
“You been
changing the plotline!”
And then I put the
novel through the shredder
I put it through ten
times.
If you had tried it,
if you had written it,
I betcha you
would’ve done the same
*Translation: I wanted to try Nano one time. Just once. When it was November, I began it. I wrote the whole day, every night, and wrote as much as I could. But Uncle Sam crept into my room on the last day and deleted the whole book.*
But yeah, did you
finish it?
Uh-huh, com-plete!
*whisper* They had
it coming
They had it coming
My YWS friends,
sister and I had this great storybook
And every now and
again some would hop in and join us
with character
profiles under our belt
We wrote 20 scenes
in a row.
One, two, three, four,
five, scenery, plot twists,
character
development, death, one right after the other
Well, this one night
before I posted
We were down at the
chatroom café
The three of us,
planning and havin’ a few laughs as we ran out of muse
So I went to get
some.
I come back from
forums and
there’s my two
partners in crime
Doing a runner,
changing storybooks!
I was in such a
state of shock, I completely blacked out,
I can’t
remember a thing, it wasn’t until later
when they had
stopped responding to me
That I even knew I’d
kicked them out!
They had it coming,
they had it coming,
They had it coming
all along.
I might’ve
done it, but if I didn’t
How could you tell
me that I was wrong?
They had it coming, they had it coming (x2)
I loved my plot idea
more than I could possibly say, it was confusing, but simple,
interesting.
But it was always
twisting out of my reach
trying to write
itself like it didn’t need my help.
But I was the
author! The plot ran away
and on the way it
found romance, magic, clichés and plot holes.
I guess you could
say I dropped it because of artistic differences,
It saw itself as
alive, and I saw it dead.
The dirty words,
words, words, words, words!
The dirty words, words, words, words,
words!
They had it coming!
They had it coming!
The had it coming
all along!
‘Cause if they
used us, and they abused us,
How could you tell
us that we were wrong!
They had it
comin', they had it comin'
They had it comin' all along
'Cause
if they used us and they abused us
How could they tell us that we
were wrong?
They had it coming,
they had it coming,
They only have
themselves to blame!
If you had tried it,
if you had written it,
I betcha you
would’ve done the same
You jump around one
more time
Not a curse words in
sight
Ten times
Een
keer wil ik de Nano proberen. Alleen een keer.
Doing a runner,
changing storybooks
Artistic
differences.
I betcha you would
have done the same
Pop! Six! Squish! Uh h uh, YWS, Lipshutzs!

Timmy here
So, um, lyrics? I am going to try to review this piece
because I can't have one piece of yours not reviewed by meand see if I can find anything that I can say helpful. Since you forbade me from listening to the (heehee), I can't help with the flow as much - but just tell you what doesn't flow right based on just reading. As for the idea, I think it's funneh and very appropriate for last month. :3Let me just read through and see what I can find - hopefully coming up with something.
Now this was confusing. >.< You found out that she told you there was no curse word in sight? That just doesn't sound right, especially because after reading the next stanza, I think you're talking about how you found out she was swearing. So it seems as though that bit - Then I found out - actually belongs more in the next stanza. If I am missing something, feel free to just ignore me here. heehee
I am not sure about this line, or what can be done to fix it, really, but it needs some help. When I read through it, it sounded veeeery forced and not very flowing. Perhaps try to edit it a bit and work with the wordage? Just can't hold is what stopped me, I think.
Why is the song titled The Writer's Block? I didn't get it, actually. When reading through it, the writer seemed to be having more issues with getting their characters to behave rather than having writer's block. So... you're going to have to explain that to me. xD
I agree with Iggy, I think. The parts where you had the Dutch were really neat, and it was somewhat ruined by the translation below. So just move it below? At the end of the piece? That would be a lot better, and make the Dutch parts more special. :3 And I understood, uh, a few words of it. xD
I don't think there is anything more I can say. >.< This was fun to read and it flowed rather well, and I liked the pop six squish thing. Was funneh to read. heehe Without the melody of the song, it was more of a flowing poem, but still fun to read.

I am glad you didn't listen to it xD And thank you for the review ^^
Omg I love this!
Okay so I feel I can't give this a proper review as I'm not really familiar with the song, but I felt like I had to comment since you referenced me in the description!
I also have to give you mad props for doing a complete version of such a long song. Keep writing!
Why not, as the song goes I you went along with the melody pretty darn good. Your lines while catchy hole the reader in and progress on. The only thing I saw wrong was when using a different language many italicize it, showing the reader, " Hey buddy Warning different language here". other than that keep writing your amazing and you made me laugh.
Bahaha, why not? I love that song, so I'll try to leave a decent review... note how I said try. Lyrical reviews aren't really my forte.
If I'm correct (but it could be different for you, foreigner
Might just be my opinion, but try "wrote" for the emboldened?
Go for a more unified ending here. Jumping. Popping. Makes it flow easier, wouldn't you say?
This... what? Song? Book? Poem? Autobiography? Don't leave it up to the reader to assume -- tell us. But you might mess up your syntax, so try to reword that line a bit.
Noooo no no, bad comma, remove comma after "and" ASAP. *eye twitch*
Meh, maybe I'm being too bias and relating this closely with the original song, but if she does what you told her to do, then why are you killing her off? Shouldn't she be defying you?
Just me, but I personally think you should spell twenty out. Just makes the poem look more classy and neat.
Okay, I honestly haven't seen Chicago yet, but it's on my watch list. The only reason I know of the song is because of Glee, and their version only included the first three "pop, six, squish" so I could only relate to those three.
But dang, girl! The first verse could've used a bit more attention, in my opinion. A little bit of a bumpy start, but nothing you can't fix. And then the second verse came in and I was like hot dang, there's my girl. It was good! Very good. And the third was just as good, and everything else as well!
I actually did listen to the original version before, so the foreign language part didn't surprise me, heh. It's a good thing you included the translation, but perhaps move it to the bottom of the poem? Just a suggestion; I think it would work better, just like it does with real books with real translations. But it doesn't really matter.
Anyways, good parody! I enjoyed it very much.
Hope this helped.
~Iggy
Yes, I wrote this just for the free post day so I know it's very rough and needs some grammatical and punctuation attention. Thanks so much for reviewing everything, Iggy <3
I actually haven't seen Chicago yet either, I just love that song.Hello, Deanie! I'm emeraldfox, representing Team EarthBenders this Review Day!
The original Cell Block Tango is one of my favorite songs from any musical so of course i had to read this and I'm glad I did! It was very humorous and lighthearted and I enjoyed reading and reviewing it! Each of your stanzas had a different personality, as each of the six women in Chicago had a different personality. It was very relatable to anyone on YWS, too! My favorite was the stanza is Dutch.
I laughed a lot at this!
The only correction I would make is to put the Dutch stanza in italics because usually, when a different language is used that isn't the primary language of the piece, it is italicized.
Great job on this piece! I thought it waws very funny and relatable!

You did a awesome job with this! Comparing it with the original was pretty amusing and brought a laugh or two.
Thank you :')
