I remember when I was a boy, living with my parents in Longbow, Maryland. It was a quiet town, a few miles away from Annapolis. We were grateful that we didn't see any of those military or government people; my mother was a bit distrustful of those people. My parents were distrustful of just about everyone. We were hermits. My dad worked down the street at the local saw mill and I went to the school around the block. My mother was a housewife, and a darn good one. Though my dad and I left the house daily, we never really talked to anybody.

There was one day that I remember particularly well. It was Valentine's Day, 1974. I was 10 years old, in Mrs. Dorsey's fourth grade class. We had to give valentines to the people in our class that we cared about. There was one girl, Nicole, who I had the biggest crush on. She was so pretty, and I wanted her to be my valentine, naturally.

I came into school that day with a gigantic pink heart under my arm. I brought it into the classroom, but I hid it when she walked into the room. She was wearing a red skirt, and whenever there was a breeze...

Mrs. Dorsey was sitting at her desk, watching all of us with welcoming eyes. Once everyone was seated, she told us to begin passing out our valentines. Everybody got up and began scrambling for their friend's desks. I was fortunate enough to put mine on Nicole's desk quickly and quietly, and nobody seemed to notice it.

I got back to my desk, and I wasn't surprised to see it empty. Did it hurt? Hell yeah. Nobody likes to be left out. But then again, I really didn't talk, and nobody even knew me.

A few hours later, the bell rang and we all ran home. As I was leaving the school, I heard a voice shout to me.

"Carl!"

I knew who it was, and I turned around so fast I almost lost my balance. There she was, Nicole Elliott, in the flesh. She was walking towards me, and my head was spinning.

Am I dreaming?, I asked myself.

No, I wasn't dreaming. She came closer to me, and was smiling. "Can I talk to you... alone?" she asked.

I readily agreed, and we walked in the direction of her house, through Fendall woods, named for the 4th Royal Governor of Maryland. As we were walking, I began to sense that something wasn't quite right. And soon enough, my fears were confirmed.

"I read your card, Carl," she began. I became paralyzed upon hearing it. There was no turning back now.

"It was sweet, really sweet. And don't get me wrong, you seem like a nice person,"

I was sweating. My heart dropped. I knew where this was headed.

"But the thing is... you're just... weird."

We had stopped walking, and were now facing each other. I was pretty sure I was going to do something stupid. I disregarded what she had just said, because I was fixated on the way she looked under that sun. I made my move, and planted a kiss right on her mouth.

She freaked out and pushed me away. "What are you DOING?!" she screamed at me.

"Doing what I've always wanted to do," I replied.

"No, Carl! You creep! I'm gonna tell everyone, and you'll never walk down the street again!" she then slapped me, something I probably deserved.

"I never want to see you again!" she exclaimed, and stormed off towards her house.

I was furious. I poured my heart out to this chick in a nicely-done valentine, and she was going to push me away like that? Nope. I picked up a nearby rock and threw it at her, hitting her on her heel, hard enough to make her fall on the ground and scream in pain.

I ran over to her, feeling remorse over what I had done. But as soon as I got over to her, she kicked me (with her uninjured leg), and bit me.

I screamed in pain, and kicked her in the stomach. After that, I lost all sense of reality, I blacked out. But when I came back, I was holding a bloodied stone, I was covered in blood, and I was standing over the bloody, mangled, and limp body of Nicole Elliott.

I soon became overcome with terror. I heard stories about jail, about what would happen if you "dropped the soap"... I was afraid. I dragged Nicole over to the bushes and covered her up as well as I could. I then jumped in the nearby river, to clean off the blood. I ran home after that, and manged to get into my room without my parents seeing my bloody clothing. I hid those in my closet. I then ran into the bathroom and puked into the toilet. I didn't sleep that night, and I didn't sleep for the next week.

Days went by, then weeks. Nobody had found Nicole's body. Finally, on May 16th, 1974, more than two months after I killed her, Nicole (or what was left of her) was found by a tourist.

Things were never the same after Nicole died. The entire town lived on the edge of chaos. A murderer was still roaming the streets, possibly waiting for their children to be alone.

I became even more isolated as time went on. I was bullied more often as I aged, eventually being seen as the ugly, lonely kid who should just go kill himself. I continued to act the part until I became a senior in high school. By then, things had gotten so bad that I just couldn't do it anymore. I had two choices: remove myself, or remove them.

I went with option number two.

The ending was amazing when the main character attacked Nicole out of the blue. That was something I wasn't ready for but the blood part was my favorite (a little creepy, I know) but it was just that fact that people don't realize what their actions have on other people. This was the perfect example of what someone people are pushed to by their crush or bullying. I hope you write more because I would love to read whatever other gruesome and realistic stories you have in the future.

I actually abandoned this project, I just wasn't in the mood anymore.
But no fears, friend! You shall be the first to see if I wrote any other scary, chilling things!

Heyo wt, subtle here for a review! Now because you have granted me permission to be harsh, I'm going rip this chapter apart. Don't worry though, I'll glue it back together. ;)

So, you've already had three reviews that seems to have detailed on the technical things and no one really commented on your plot, language and how you've gone about describing things. That's where I'm going to target this review on.

Plot:

I think I've another story like this recently, where an enraged person kills another person just because they won't accept their love. Wait, actually, I'm thinking of the Elliot Rogers incident. Never mind. For most of the chapter, you've done pretty well in terms of linking your actions together. However, there were one part where I found that just didn't seem realistic enough. The first one was how Carl had reacted to Nicole's rejection, I mean even if she had rejected him I would believe he had prepared for it. You didn't indicate in this chapter of Carl's personality, so what he did to Nicole just seemed like something that was very irrational and made-up. Also:

"But the thing is... you're just... weird."

Alright, I can get that Nicole thinks that he's weird and she didn't explain why? You could have used that dialogue to describe both Carl and Nicole's internal emotions. Shouldn't Carl at least say something back, question her before jumping to the part of stoning her?

Well, ok and then there is the part to where she got hit by a rock. Because you didn't describe the size of the rock, I can't get a good grasp on how heavy it is nor how it affected her. If it was a rock in the size of a fist, then she would be unconscious. In fact, I'd imagine anyone would be dazed after getting hit by a rock and not biting back. Shouldn't Nicole feel fear? And then, you just jumped straight to Carl stoning her to death which really, is a bit unrealistic. These are pretty much the parts where I found to be a bit unrealistic.

Language:

Your language isn't bad, and since your chapter is a short one I guess it smudged off some of the telling and not showing. The main problem with this chapter, is probably one of the oldest thing ever in creative writing. Balance the show and tell. Frankly, you've done quite a good job because for the majority of this chapter it was pretty good. The only part where you could have described and show us was probably the process of Carl beating Nicole to death and how he hid it afterwards. In fact, that whole part just seemed very rushed to me.

Characters:

You really need to get into the depth of the characters, Nicole just seems like the usual airehead girl who doesn't really care about those weird nerds that send her cards. And Carl, well, Carl is interesting but I would like to know how his mind works and not just his physical action. However this is only the first chapter, so plenty of chance to develop them.

Overall, I enjoyed this. Is intriguing and especially with that ending, is Carl becoming a serial killer now? O_O Keep updating! And never give up!

Awww, thanks! I promise that later chapters will be more detailed, and therefore more realistic.

Hi, wtppowers. This is pinkie here. I liked to review your masterpiece if you don't mind. Excuse me as I get my glasses. *Get the "review" glasses* Ok, wtppowers, let me do my stuff. (don't say it.)

Mmm...I see you have other reviewers to do the grammar mistakes. I guess I will do my secret weapon: telling about this story. I know it is the same thing. Just don't judge me.

Like the other said, it is a great chapter that I had that. It is so simple and great for me to read it. It is so interesting that I can't let it end. I love this character. They are interesting to read about. I want to read more from Carl. However, you have some mistakes on this story like others said. You need to tell us some details about him. Anyway, I love this story and want to read more from you. I hope for the arrival of part two. Great chapter by the way.

Awesome Job! :D

Cheers

Hello powers! You get this special review. This is the review that shall get me my fifth star! Thank you!

Nitpicks

Spoiler
I was 10 years

The number! Run! It shall murder us! Honestly, it should be ten years.

and manged to

Don't you mean managed?

Awww, he has a love. A Valentine for his crush and a kiss on the lips for good luck. Annnnnnd she slaps him. What a fighter.

Look, two little kiddies be fighting! Let's see who wins. The outlook looks grim for the girl. Let's hope she survives. Oh no, everyone lay your hats down. She is dead.

Carl, you murderer! First murder in 4th grade. Now even more! Wow, Carl has lost his grip.

I wonder if anyone searched for Nicole. Because who doesn't look behind a bush. Even a tourist looks behind a bush, and they aren't even searching for a dead body. Must have snapped some great shots though for his blog or his Facebook.

Keep writing,

Hi there!

In all honesty, I was so surprised when I read the part where Carl blacked out. That was the most intense part of the chapter and I was so intrigued. You really got me there.

The thing I really like about this chapter is how it seems so nice and simple at the beginning. Carl is just sitting there telling us about his life, about this fateful day in 1974. It sort of lulled me into a false sense of security. Like, I knew that it was a horror story, but I really felt like everything was going to be fine for a while. So two big thumbs up for totally tricking me.

Okay, moving on to characters and plot and all that. There really isn't anything I can say about your plot because it's just begun. But it's definitely an interesting one and I can see it going in many different directions. I wonder which direction it'll end up going.

As for your characters, I'd like to focus on Carl for a bit. We definitely know a lot about him already (thank you 1st person POV). And you've done a good job making sure that his feelings and reactions are highlighted in this chapter. I'm a bit concerned about his reaction to this event though. It seems a bit..nonchalant? He just beat this girl to death with a rock and he just covers his tracks just like that? You did say that he was scared, but I want more than that. Show me how scared he was. Show me his eyes darting from side to side and his hesitation to even touch the body. I just feel like the whole scene would've gone a different way.

Let me know when you post the next chapter! I'd love to read it. I see why you're proud of this chapter. It's great :)

Keep writing!
**Noelle**

Oh my god thanks! Yeah, don't worry. The next chapter will be more detailed.
