“Expressing Technology”

Lollapalooza! Peculiar it may seem, but this word simply means extraordinarily impressive. It is a statement that can readily define one of the biggest phenomena of this generation. And as we know it, that is technology. Root of the latest trends in gadgets, key to an easier life, or the hallmark of a bright future are some ways on how we define it. But in whatever way we put it, this existing prodigy is really something of significance. There are a lot of ongoing operations that depend on the power technology brings. It is the magic behind different fields of modernization. Likewise, technology deals with the discovery, development, and improvement of the things related with those fields.

Discovery is where the heart of technology lies. It gives life to new found machines, gadgets, and the like. Additionally, as discovery is the starting point of technology’s path, innovation is where it begins. Introduction to something new, a fresh idea - that is innovation. According to Brynjolfsson & and Schrage (2009), it is the lifeblood of growth, and as higher levels of technological advancements take place, it is being transformed to something of faster and quicker speed. This makes technology more alive as it multiplies rapidly into its different branches due to innovation. As these ideas are being processed and fabricated into reality, new inventions are formed. Those new findings add up to the concept of discovery with relation to technology. To illustrate, Dyson (2012) gave examples of those like the listening wristwatch from Singapore that helps parents with hearing problems and the first aid by flying drone from Austria called Smart Aid that brings first aid to dangerous and almost unreachable locations as written in one of his articles. These products were invented as a response to people’s needs. Moreover, they are also both results of innovation and discovery.

Technology is associated with the development of its products to create a better output for the industries where they belong. Different technological creations are continually being visualized by their creators to be developed into new and enhanced results that will meet the market’s demand. As we know, the most popular products of technology today are cellular phones, transportation vehicles, automated machines, and appliances which all undertake the procedure of change into a better form. In this case, businesses that are concerned with these technologies venture through the process of product development. One of the prestigious companies in the industry of vehicle production is Honda, which applies the principles of progress in their cars. An example of their continuous evolvement with regards to their products is the new technology that they have developed to weld steel and aluminum together as said by Coxworth (2012). This new development aims to enhance the output of their manufactured automobiles. The process that they have established is a variation of Friction Stir Welding that has the goal of creating a great bond between the two unlike metals. This made several changes to the weight, structure, and performance of the product. Furthermore, the new technique that they have discovered improved the car’s dynamic performance hence making a better chance of market for the company. In the same way, other industries like Honda look for new ways of developing their merchandises through the modern technology to open a new door of opportunity for their businesses.

Having endless room for improvement is a characteristic of technology. From the time an invention lands in this world and gains its success, the goal of its inventors is to improve it to meet the constantly changing needs of the people. Improvement in this case deals with the different fields of technological production. As an example, one of these is the field of 3D printing. From the time it was launched in business, it has undergone different improvements for it to create a better service for its users. One of the latest breakthroughs in this area is MIT’s new software that increases the speed and flexibility of multi-material 3D printing according to an article by Sandhana (2013). As this printing process only uses a single material to produce an object, this new software is developed to make possible the art of 3D printing in multiple materials. Though the desired physical properties of the outcomes are difficult to get, the system is specially designed to achieve the structure of the object to be printed. Also, though the process is very complex, it was done through unceasing searches for improvement of the said industry. This proves that technology is on a continuing progression of improving its products because there are always rooms for more improvement.

Technology is what occurs in the course of different fields in the modernization in this generation. In addition, it can be defined and associated with several concepts. One is discovery, which is where the heart of technology lies as it gives life to new inventions through innovation. Another is development as it is the process in technology where products are developed to produce a better output for the benefit of the industries where they belong. Additionally, improvement is the characteristic of technology which is endless because there will always be a room for improvement in every aspect of it. These three are the terms in which technology can be defined through the way they work with regard to advancements and progressions. In conclusion, technology deals with the discovery, development, and improvement of the technological products of our modern world today.

Hey there! I am Onyx and I will be reviewing your article today! :) Sorry this review is later than expected! :(

Comments
Great job over all, I like how the article is well organized. Though I do have a few things to point out, so here we go.

Lollapalooza! Peculiar it may seem, but this word simply means extraordinarily impressive.

Don't know if this is the best to start off with. Your thesis should be something that talks about technology, to me this does not seem to be a good hook.

According to Brynjolfsson & and Schrage (2009), it is the lifeblood of growth, and as higher levels of technological advancements take place, it is being transformed to something of faster and quicker speed.

Here I would put quotation marks where the words are being used from these people. Though it may be obvious, some might see it as a summary in your own words.

Over all
Over all, everything was very well put. Though I would have made the paragraphs flow a little better together but that is the writer in me. Ha- :D I like the conclusion, though I think you could of made it more smoother. Other than that, very nice job! I am sorry that this review is later than it was expected! :( If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message or if you need anything else reviewed. :) Thank you for your time,
~Onyx

Hey, Krizshel!

So I'm here to give some advice that can help you moving forward, and we'd better start from the very first conception of the essay idea. I know you received an assignment and a topic to write on, so it may have seemed like you had no choice but to follow it. But I'm here to tell you, you can ALWAYS tailor an essay to make it easier for you.

For example, your topic is technology in terms of discovery, development, and innovation. In reality, entire books or even different series of books have been written on this same topic. Technology is SUCH a broad topic, it covers so many different aspects of life, that it's pretty much impossible to cover neatly in under 1,000 words.

So what you have to do is narrow narrow NaRrOw your topic down. One way that you might have done this essay differently is picking a specific item of technology and following just THAT item through it's discovery, development, and innovation. If you think you could handle the general info about a category of items (like cellphones, computers, some medical gadget), you might write a broader description of general techniques in those processes toward a (not)completed aspect of technology.

Another thing that would have helped is if you could have defined the word "technology" for your essay based on your own experiences. Technology is kind of a buzz word. It's vague and doesn't have a set meaning that people can immediately recall when it's mentioned. It's not something concrete like a mirror or even something relatively static like the internet. It's "technology" -- wide as an ocean, and that makes it hard to define. If you were to define it for an essay, you could make sure that each aspect you explored (discovery, development, and innovation) related back to this definition to keep your essay nice, organized, and working together with all its parts.

I liked how you used citations, by the way. You used them when referring to material you obviously weren't very familiar with, but the specifics of which supported your material. The only thing I need to warn you about is to be careful with using words from those cited sources. I'm actually not sure about citation rules in the Philippines, but in America, if you use the EXACT words from the sources, which you did in the points where you mentioned your sources, you must put those words in quotation marks. For example, you'd want to write

One of the latest breakthroughs in this area is "MIT’s new software [that] increases the speed and flexibility of multi-material 3D printing" according to an article by Sandhana (2013).

You can see the quotation marks around the words you copied and the square brackets around the words you inserted. Find out more about American quotation standards (if you want!) by going to this page: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/03/

You can even see information there about adding words (like you did) or taking them out to better work the quotation into your essay's sentences. I like that you have the natural instinct to use them in the flow of your own words. Many students struggle with simply including quotes and not weaving them into their own words, but you've already got a head start there.

I really hope all of this can be useful to you in the future! Good luck with your assignment, let me know if you have any questions, and I'll see you around!
Keep writing~

Thanks a lot! I'll be remembering those important points :)

Hi krizshelbenalycabral,as you wish,DK here to give a review.Just a few things I want to point up here, that you might overlooked .

1.

Lollapalooza! Peculiar* it may seem, but this word simply means extraordinarily impressive.

Try this;"Lollapalooza! Peculiarly, it may seem just a word, but simply means extraordinarily impressive."

2.
Additionally*, as discovery is the starting point of technology’s path, innovation is where it begins.

Try to write like this;"In addition, discovery is the starting point of technology’s path, innovation is where it begins. "

3.Add 'As a conclusion' at the end of your essay;
e.g;As a conclusion , technology is what occurs in the course of different fields in the modernization in this generation.

In term of language, you actually can improve your essay.Try to read a lot of essays to improve your writing style.
Keep it up,good job and good luck.
Kudos,cheers. :)

Thank you very much! It really helped :D

Heya! That "Lollapalooza!" of yours really caught my attention. :D I like your essay. It's a really interesting topic that I'd never read of. You wrote the whole thing in a well-organized, easy to follow way, with just the information you needed to get to your goal of convincing people. Although, there are some errors where sentence structure could have been smoother. Just little errors, really.. But overall it was extremely interesting. You did a very good job here. :)

Hi krizshelbenalycabral! Knight Auxii here to review!
Please excuse me if this doesn't seem to helpful, it's my first review on an essay.

Specifics
- yo catch catch attention with the first word.

-

But in whatever way we put

this phrase is quite awkward, maybe put: "whichever way we express it?"

-
to something of faster and quicker speed

Faster and quicker are synonyms. Using them so close together is slightly counter productive. Maybe say: "to something quicker and more performing."

-
This makes technology more alive

come alive maybe

-
gave examples of those like such as that of the listening wristwatch

-
continuous evolvement with regards

evolvement isn't a word: evolutiuon

Overall
This is quite an interesting essay, with relevant examples.
You maybe need to try and use less complicated phrases; if the you don't understand how to use them, then the reader won't.
Though it was interesting, I don't feel that it brought me much more understanding. You seemed to repeat some meanings more than once, and I felt that your second paragraph and your conclusion were quite similar in content.

Hope I helped!
Auxii ^^

The wince that you wince when you see your quote in the quote generator is quite a wince, I tell ya. To know that the whole YWS community has read and judged your quote is quite an awkward feeling like oh noes. *manly blush*
