Hey everyone! I recently finished reading Charles Dickens' Great Expectations this summer and I absolutely loved this novel! The storyline is so beautifully woven together and the whole premise of the story is haunting in the most beautiful sense of the word. I decided to start this forum here in an attempt to find others who've read and/or analyzed this work to chat it up with!!! If you haven't read it, I certainly recommend it. It's quite a thick one, but such textual perfection is well worth a few extra pages. Anyways, I'd love to see what you guys think if the novel and I'm excited to engage in some interesting dialogue about the characters and plot. Anything goes! A great novel by a great author(my favorite author of all time). I dont know what other Dickens you've read but Ollie Twist is my fav(though probably the most heavily criticized). A Tale of Two Cities is fantastic but you should know going into it that it was published as a series of stories originally so there are numerous climaxes, makes for kind of an odd read but still great.
You don't know how long I've been waiting to discuss this book with someone. Great Expectations is my favorite Dickens book. For various reasons. Firstly, I feel like the book has a haunting feel to it. I like that, and I think that it's mostly due to the character of Miss Havisham. You are absolutely right, the story was beautifully woven and full of very interesting characters. Plus, I felt like near the end I felt the betrayal and hurt of the characters. What did you think of Miss Havisham's concept of "beauty is death"? I found it quite an interesting idea for Dickens to write about--I found it even more impressive of how he wove that in with Havisham's brother's butterfly collecting and her own personal circumstances.
