“Playing With Fire”
By: Amaranth Ebony

Dedicated to and written for la mia principessa. Stay strong, Abi. We'll make it! :smt002

I knew from the very beginning
Just what we were getting ourselves into,
But I couldn’t deny an irrefutable truth:
You love me as I love you.

Bracing myself for the coming hatred,
I had struck the match of forbidden desire.
But, how could I foresee that our little spark of passion
Would be fanned into flames of our friendship’s pyre?

The flames of their animosity rages now.
The glow in the distance is our haven aflame.
Everything we once had is destroyed…
And now we are matched in a dangerous game.

But, don’t lose faith, my beloved…
For even through the heat and pressure of their lies,
I am safe and cooled to sanity
By the deep ocean blue of your joyful, teary eyes.

One day, our scorched fields will blossom anew,
And become an even greener, fuller spring.
Then and there, in Elysian fields,
I will offer you my heart, my soul, my love- everything.
"I'm working on it, dammit!"

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.
