Index of Poetry Hashtags

You've probably noticed several poetry hashtags making their rounds on the People's Tab recently, in the spirit of NaPo hype. There are lots of other great poetry hashtags, as well, and it can be hard to keep track of them all! That's what this thread is for - it's a list of almost all the poetry hashtags on the site currently, along with a quick description of each. Some are more event-specific than others, but you're always welcome to revive them whenever you want, or create new ones if you can't find what you're looking for!

https://www.youngwriterssociety.com/people/hash/ If you want to see all the posts for a given hashtag, you can paste this url into your browser, adding the name of the hashtag after the final forward slash.

NaPo

NaPo, short for National Poetry Writing Month, is a month-long event in April where poets are traditionally challenged to write a poem a day. Often poets will choose to set their own goals, though, such as writing 15 poems over the course of the month. You can find more information about it in the Information Thread!

#Napo - This one's pretty broad. If you're making a wall post about anything NaPo related, feel free to just slap it on.

#preNaPo - Similarly, if it's March and you're getting ready for the NaPo experience, you can use this one to spread some hype.

#WhyNaPo / #WhyTryNaPo - Share why you like to participate in NaPo! There are so many great reasons to do NaPo, and sharing why you love NaPo might be the reason a poet decides to give it a try for the first time.

#NaPoGoals - Sharing your goals is a great way to keep yourself accountable and get lots of awesome encouragement from fellow poets. You can go as in-depth or general as you like with this hashtag, and typically it's something that poets redo every year before NaPo!

#AlphabetAnswers (Poetry Edition) - Inspired by the original Alphabet Answers hashtag, this is a fun way to share about your poetic style, poetry habits, and plans for NaPo. The hashtag includes a series of 26 quick questions for you to answer, each one starting with the next letter of the alphabet.

#jammified - The site's theme for NaPo has been Jam the past couple of years, so users have taken to changing their avatars (and sometimes entire profile themes) to match the jammy theme. If you like, you can post #jammified on your wall to let people know about the new look and spread the jamminess.

#CampNaPo - Sometimes we have a one-week-long condensed NaPo in August, and posts about that can be linked by this hashtag. You can also find the main club for Camp NaPo here.

#NaPoWeek - We also sometimes have a one-week-long, spooky-themed NaPo in October. You can find the forum for that here.

When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.

Sharing other people's poetry

#PoetryShoutout - Did you read a poem in the Literary Center that absolutely blew your mind? Give it (and the author) a shoutout on your wall using this hashtag so that other people can go read the masterpiece!

#FiresideFridays - Exactly the same as the above hashtag, but special to Fridays. You can shout out one or as many poems as you like that caught your eye over the previous week.

#ShareAPoem - Similar to the poetry shoutout hashtags, but this hashtag is typically used to share a poem that was written by a "famous"/not site-user poet.

#ReadingPoetry - Read a good poem? Wrote a good poem? Reviewed a good poem? This hashtag is pretty broad, so feel free to use it for whatever poetry-sharing shenanigans you're up to.

#PoemOfTheWeek - This hashtag is usually used in conjunction with The Poem of the Week Thread, where people can share any poems, not by YWSers, that they think other people would enjoy.

When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.

Sharing your own poetry

#gifpoetry - If you want to share a poem you've written with an aesthetic gif to go along with it, this is the hashtag for you.

#arcpoems - This hashtag often goes along with #gifpoetry. It's inspired by Arcticus' philosophical wall posts, and is used when sharing a short, musing piece of poetry.

#poemthoughts - This hashtag is for sharing any random thoughts that might be currently floating around in your head, in the form of a poem. It can be as deep or as silly as you like!

#WritingPoetry - Pretty self explanatory. You can use this for literally anything that has to do with writing poetry.

#wallpoetry - For sharing poems you might not feel like publishing, on your wall.

#firstpoems - Want to enjoy a bit of wholesome cringe? Post the first poem you wrote on your wall to see how much you've grown as a poet! Whether that's the first poem you ever wrote, or the first poem you ever shared on the site, is up to you.

#collabpoetry - This hashtag is handy if you've written a poem with a friend and want to share it on your wall.

When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.

Giving poems to your friends

#acrosticpoem - You can use this hashtag for anything acrostic-related. Typically, people use this hashtag to share an acrostic on a friend's wall, with the acrostic spelling out their name or something personal to them!

#friendshippoems - Write a poem for a friend and share it on their wall to let them know how much you appreciate them. This can be used for any type or style of poem, be it haiku, free verse, sonnet, or something else entirely.

#freindshippoems - This is #friendshippoems' chaotic counterpart - share a poem on your friend's wall, but make it as chaotic, crazy, and goofy as possible! These poems usually feature colourful fonts, chatspeak, typos, awful rhymes, and wacky metaphors.

When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.

Niche stuff

#dishwasherpoetry - Honestly, there aren't really any guidelines for this hashtag. If you're talking about dishes, or washing, or dishwashers, or poetry, why not add this hashtag to go along?

#vintagemashup - For this hashtag, take two poems that you've already written and mash them together to make a brand new poem.

#ChickenPoetry - Chicken poetry is pretty popular on the site - in fact, we've had contests and challenges entirely dedicated to it. When you write a poem about chickens (because trust me, you will), then this is the hashtag for you.

#MayHaiku - Some poets choose to focus on writing haikus in May, and this is the hashtag to go along with that.

#MadLibsPoetry - Inspired by the original Mad Libs game: take a poem (by someone famous, or that you've written), take out some keywords, replace them with blanks, and get your friends to fill in the blanks! The resulting poems will be pretty wacky. You can find an example here, as well.

When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.

Poetry resources

#PoetryReVIEWS - This hashtag is an informative one about reviewing poetry works on the site. YWSers can use it to share what kind of stuff they find helpful and prefer in the poetry reviews they've received!

#ReviewTips (Poetry Edition) - Use this hashtag to find and give tips on how you review literary works, especially poetry! You can explain what kind of elements you focus on in poetry reviews, how to balance criticism and encouragement, how to give a helpful interpretation - anything goes.

When you're faced with something you don't understand, I think the most natural thing but also least interesting thing you can be is afraid.
