Odds are you've studied The Hero's Journey in school or in your writing endeavors. If you're unfamiliar, it is a concept that the journey that every character in every piece of fiction goes through, whether it's Star Wars or Into the Wild, the main character is a twelve year old girl or a sixty year old man.

Since character in storybooks is just as, if not more important than in fiction, I would like to invite you all a character development workshop on September 29th. The workshop will last 90 minutes. We'll spend the first half an hour to forty five minutes discussing our favorite characters in fiction and how they go through the hero's journey. Then we'll focus more on characters as they pertain to storybooks, and we'll spend the last bit of the time freewriting.

This workshop will occur Sunday, September 29th at 6PM GMT. That's 1PM Eastern, 12PM Central, 11AM Mountain and 10AM Pacific.

Please RSVP if you're attending by responding to this post and I'll send you all a PM closer to the date. If you're attending, please bring a specific piece of fiction you enjoy and a specific character to focus on.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

Is it a Skype workshop or chat or just on here or something? How does it work? I might be interested.

Sometimes it's on a Google Doc, sometimes on a Titan pad. It depends on what Ellie decides. :)

What Iggy said! It'll probably be on a Titanpad because I've had issues with google doc in the past.

*Definitely attending! And a question, does the piece of fiction have to be by a well known author? Even if that is the case, I'm still going to have an extremely hard time choosing a book, because I've read so many! :?is feeling: confused :?

Not necessarily! Just try for a work you think most people will be familiar with. And it doesn't have to be a book, it could be a movie too.

*totally doesn't still have to check a time zone map* Hmm, church might get in the way, but if it doesn't I'll sure try to be there!

Would it be okay to come in late, though? It's fine if the answer's no, I'm just checking.

I'll probably be about forty-five minutes late, give or take a chunk of time for getting back and forth, so I'll probably miss the first chunk. I'll be there as soon as I can, though!
