I am a technophile technically, and am sometimes called a philomath (the probably googled it) which means effectively "loving to learn". It was once used in reference to dedicated scholars, however it may be a fairly new term, thus was no used when being a scholar was a thing. Likely they saw philo and thought it was phile, which means “lover of”, or more mildly, “enthusiast for”.
Either way I probably am.
