"Oh... yeah." She'd almost forgotten. "Yeah, I guess. Tomhas didn't believe me when I told him."

"I almost didn't believe it when I was told. Who can blame him?"

"I wouldn't lie about something like that," she said quietly. She knew it was an outlandish behavior. She knew it wasn't personal that Tomhas didn't believe her, since it was so out of character for Gaius. But it still stung a bit that he didn't take her seriously when she was being very, very serious.
(Random flashback to my friend laughing at me in undergrad when I was being serious and it stinging lol I am childfree by choice but have dabbled with the idea of adopting and told my friend I was thinking of adopting and she laughed at me because she thought I was joking)(she apologized when I reacted poorly lol but still got that stuck in my head of 'wait does she think I'd be a bad parent?' living rent-free haha)

(Aw oof. I bet you'd be a great parent; you seem really cool.)
"I know you wouldn't. Maybe he just hoped it was some dumb joke rather than actually believed it was a joke."

(Tank <3 for now it's a distant pipe-dream, probably won't be stable enough for at least another solid decade or so to even consider it lol but there are so many teens in foster care who need love and acceptance and they are being so wildly failed by the system. I don't do kid-kids but I've got a soft spot for teens)
"...maybe," she allowed. "I... I don't know. This is all very complicated."

"Yeah," Ky sighed, shuffling her feet a bit as they walked as she tried to consider what her next move needed to be. No longer did charging ahead so she could go back to her room seem safest. Now, at least, she had an excuse for why she wasn't searching Tomhas out. Emery was bugging her; there was nothing she could do about that. But once the stupid exercise-your-teen ploy was over? Meh.

"Thanks for walking with me,' he said. "I know you didn't want to. It's tough to get up and move around when you're depressed."

"...meh." She shrugged, not looking at him. "...it wasn't so bad, I guess... but I'm not doing it again."

"Mm." She wasn't going to. But no point in picking a fight. Just leave it at a passive non-answer so that he didn't get obnoxious about forcing her to agree. And so that she had plausible deniability if he tried to force her in the future, since she wasn't agreeing with him.

The Twelve Makeovers of Haircules is the stuff of legend. He defeated the Erymanthian Beard. One could say it was a hair raising adventure. — KateHardy
