Verse One
We pretend not to know
As if it didn't show
We pretend not to care
As if he weren't right there

Pre Chorus
This pain is real
This pain can kill

Chorus
Tell me you were joking
When you said he burned down
Are there clues in the ashes
Scattered on the ground

They called him a freak
They said he was a liar
We stood over watching him
Freezing in the fire
Freezing in the fire

Verse Two
You could have been the answer
To someone in pain
But look around you
You're way too late

Bridge
The kid's frozen in fire
The kid's frozen in fire

Outro
Tell me it's not over
He didn't really burn down
Is that him in the ashes
Scattered on the ground

Tell me you were joking
When you said he went down
Are there clues in the ashes
He's nowhere to be found
Scattered on the ground
when there's nowhere to go, it's time to grow up.

Wow! I loved it. It reminds me of a piece of poetry I once wrote. It had the same theme, but you seemed to get your point across so much better than I did. I'd have to say that the chorus was my favorite part of the song. It was very well written adn flowed amazingly well. Great job.

I loved this. The "freezing in the fire" was a really great image for me.

Same here. Kinda reminds me of that song "Walk Through The Fire" from the Buffy musical; I don't know why.

This is the type of song I always want to write but end up... not. Grr :P

Do you come up with a tune first then put lyrics to it, or the other way around?

Thanks everyone...this is like one of my favorite songs that I've written.

Actually, I just come up with different progessions and just write them down, and then I write lyrics and try them with all the different progressions that I've come up with to see which one I like the best. So I guess you would say I come up with the tune first. It's a lot easier to do it that way. Just play and then sometimes the words start coming to mind...that's like, one of the most beautiful things--ever.
