NaPo 2011! Woo! Sorry I'm sneaking into the party a bit late, but I can't wait to see everyone else's threads!

Staged

"All the World is a Stage,
and the actors, merely players."

The scene is set in my palm,
cloaked by the curtain of my caged fingers.
A stage, behold! where tongues touch word.
Cupped breath of life is held suspended in the air.
Stimuli meant to stir the stale waters of the soul
rises to break the surface;
it ripples out in liquid motion.

See it in their faces? Moisture pricks and stings-
a thorny rose in its pure essence.
An artist of noun and verb, action and word,
Delicate pallet of color dabbled onto their vision.

Marionettes dance and laugh at their own tragedies,
since celebration comes at such a high price;
the price they all gladly pay.
These acts of love, hatred, and sorrow-
sin above all else,
plays its part in the show.

Eyes settle on the players of the game,
how they make their moves so carefully calculated.
Minds of another, copied and pasted,
yet how fragile their thoughts are
like petals seeking the safety of the earth
as they float, nothing beneath them.

With lips parted, sound spills across the crowd.
Sitting toward the edge, longing for the proper closure,
where Forever stays at its end.
Now reality is setting in, and the players reluctantly go
slipping through the trap door once again.

Phantasm

Vision is blackness, the darkest shade of the light;
it creeps upon your brow and kisses you goodnight.
Drifting sounds pound at mind’s door,
their calling heard, but nothing more.
While set at naught, voices surround,
pillow thrown to bottomless ground.

Sleepiness finds the mind, a task well completed,
murmurs through thy head retreated.
Yet alas! it found word of a crack,
Persistency allowed only that.
Awaken now the beast inside
where somnolence may seldom hide.

Earthly flesh around one tainted,
soul taken, broken, contaminated.
The theft remains unseen
as murder walks among those clean.
Wisps of Death float among the living,
their dampened hearts are unforgiving.

Perhaps it’s their tortured soul,
one that is as dark as charred coal.
They writhe in Hell, prisoner among power,
and their petals drop from once-sweet flower.
Therefore, take from this the message heeded-
you are not safe until taint is weeded.
Got YWS?

You judge others upon their actions, but you judge yourself by your intention.

Stop Threatening Me With Love

A nameless feeling, but it couldn’t be...
No, love was never meant for me!
Wretched thought, please be gone.
The fight is lost, but the war not yet begun.

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

The war wages on, let’s give it our best!
Cut short are lives in its untimeliness.
Shapeless figure, oh bite your tongue!
The battle-cry has not yet been sung.

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

My dear heart, we will stand guarded
protests come forth from our lips parted
My eyes do watch his moves, his game
He feints to his side, so I do just the same.

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

He calculates all his moves with caution
looking out for just one, its self-preservation,
and somehow I can’t help but ponder
why it is my heart grows fonder.

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

He who threatens me shall see
That I don’t forgive so easily
‘Try it,’ I plead those demon eyes,
For the biting words are magnetized.

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

To love would be my ultimate surrender
The change from an opponent to defender
How it spreads, now like wildfire
The glint of my sword reflects pure ire.

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

The power behind the steel blade
is the guise for my weakness made
I’ll hide behind that shield he hates
my heart destroys, and his creates.

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

I know his movements all too well
By his love, he wishes to rebel
And as he strikes, I feel his pain
Is it me, or is there nothing to gain?

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

He lets me win the game we play
Piercing through, it stops today.
My heart has won, I should be smiling,
so why is it I can’t stop crying?

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

I wave my white flag up to the sky
It isn’t a challenge, it isn’t goodbye.
He now sits with me by my side
On Forever’s lap so bona fide.

Day breaks from darkest shade to brightest light,
And brings with it cover from its eternal night.

Prejudice

stranger, don't think I want to know you;
one look and I know, oh, I know enough about.
the way you take your coffee, eagerly licking the lip
for the sustenance you crave, and will not be satisfied with.
all of those hungry little mouths at home are not my own family.
I'm sure they look and smell like crocodiles, ready to snap away at me.
all of the times I have been wronged it was you, minority, who had sinned.
don't expect God's kind heart, since you are not of the same skin,
and do not expect it is easy for a hardened one to forgive.
tired of your ugly lies and face, I turn away from evil;
I feign stoicism at its best, but you see hate in me
Fueling the fires that consume us with thought
Just one look is all I need from you.

***Stop Hate! I didn't really like this poem much, because I feel like I didn't properly communicate this. This was originally about Reese's Cups, but for some reason I changed it to... judgement? I know, of all things! Anyway, my next one will be better! I'll edit this later.***

From Autistic Society

Trips over words until gentle stutter
sounds like a patter of rain on hard cement
The curve of a downward lip, how it quirks
up when the mind wants to spit back
the colorless world that it knows

brain stops to process thinking sounds
right... right? Wrong once again
Autism spectrum, show us where it's at

The mistrustful, judging eye sockets,
the evil behind the actions of
pointing at, giggles covered by palms
The mustache of perspiration revealing
No one is okay with slow, not even the one
where the Autism shows.

***I wrote this for my brother, Stephen, who has Aspergers Syndrome. For some who don't know, it is a mental handicap and it on the Autism spectrum. He's a good kid, but he's bullied because of his awkwardness. I don't think that's fair at all, do you?

I'm coming back to edit this later but right now I'm too busy with things... my prom is on Friday, my Sweet Sixteen is in a week, my marking period is ending on Friday, and I have to prepare for a Regatta on Saturday. I might have to catch up with NaPo... Sunday maybe? I'll see. Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful day/night! :D***

Paint the realms of golden lie
So hidden; out of sight, out of mind
Or so you would think until it spills
Over the edge, heavily chilled
Creamy black, the doves attack
mindless word of this and that
and I hate I can’t make sense of
the spluttering from your mouth
repulses me, is from me
Ah, inspiration, you have evaded me.

Too Late

Drink it up, my love.
Dance the night in nothing, no time.
My fists thrash. Cry. Choking on alcohol.
Laugh. Mom yells in your ear to put your seatbelt on.
Even in your stupor, you listen; can't ignore Mom.
Blur. Do it and your friends laugh; you're such a worry-wuss.
Slur. Behind the wheel, friends hoot as one chugs beer through a tube.
Laugh more. Bodies limp on the floor.
Taken, stolen. Their lives no more.

Open up, blind and dazzled. What's going on?
The song has ended. Silence is louder. It takes up the dead's presence.

I can't feel, I can't think. Blood touches my lips and I know.
The iron fills me with memories. Glass shards and shattered skulls.
I don't know. I don't want to.

Charged with second-degree homicide.
I'm a seventeen-year-old killer now, it says it on the file.
That means it must be true. I'm dead when my parents find me.
I look up at my friends' motionless eyes. But who will find them?

when we ran down the empty road
black tar heating and singing our feet
wildflowers grew by the side of the road
unnaturally tall, you said they were me
out of place, yet belonging to the whole
wildflower patch, I just had to find it

"flower?" a tall dandelion extended to my palm
I took it and kissed it, kissed you so passionately
if only for the moment. It was all I needed.

your mother called me, urgency leaking in
like water flooding her mouth, unstoppable.
I tried to make her stop, because you should know
I did not believe her words.
you were hurt?
impossible, I told her. I saw you yesterday.
giggling, happy, kissing.
I told her I love you, then I broke down.
who says that to their boyfriend's mother anyway?

a medically induced coma, that's what they told me.
but it felt like you left me when you didn't,
could not open your navy eyes to greet me.
you looked so peaceful in a quiet kind of dream,
but when in reality the drugs kept you from screaming.
we all know there can't be any commotion in a hospital.

I said goodbye, because your dream was my nightmare.
I parted for us, stoppered the words from flowing
and flooding out the love I had for the two of us.

now here I am to say the words I'll never hear from you.
I love you.
but I'm sorry.

Two Different Things

touch sin carefully,
it's as delicate as a girl.
let it in like a whisper tickling
the ears of the corn, husky and deep
his voice- heart ready, set, go
racing, galloping to first place

time and time I watch the clock
twitching off the moments
where I don't see that face
what a waste, what a waste!
pitiful tears, no one to hear
caring too much can lead to
hypnotize me now, lulling deeper
deeper
deeper
sleepier
until I am too far gone
lost to love
savoring every second of it
tasting it on your tongue

faceless creatures crowing the 'our'
a plea for the attention, nothing more
fingers tangled in his hair, hungrily
no one thinks, but I do, I care.

crazily, we stop again. Too far gone.
I can't stop the music that pounds in our veins.
love and sex, they are two different things.

A World Seen

The mind trapped within a cage
Wanting freedom to fly, to live.
Like that poor waitress,
How she scrapes by for that hungry, whining two-year-old at home.
Or like that CEO, scrambling for profits
Wanting nothing more than to go home.

We see the world curl within itself,
Tired of its own bitter words, fatal arms
All pointed at one another,
Willing someone to make the first move.
The mind should block out the bad,
Yet it feeds on it as goodness lends sweeter demise.

Stop and go, continue onward
It's fine, you'll be fine, really.
Don't worry, everything is eternity
In your head
Filed away, and saved to look at one far off day.
When your heart feels the warmth or aching clutch
Of the world through your eyes.
Got YWS?

You judge others upon their actions, but you judge yourself by your intention.

Not a Child Anymore

There is a child in her features,
but she acts too old for her age.
No, this girl can’t be but thirteen
Bearing the world on her shoulders.

Not one to speak out, she watches
as her mother sleeps days away.
Where’s daddy? You will see him soon.
Off at work, he can’t look at you.

All alone, the girl takes the home
does the laundry, dishes, cleaning.
Gets good grades in her fifth year,
but she graduates, no one there.

Her daddy works in the city
comes home late, if he comes at all.
Women come with him, all dressed up;
Mommy doesn’t mind guests in the house.

Her dolls start changing families
Don’t commit to one but others
Women are prostitutes; men, pigs.
There is nothing pure anymore.

Mommy can’t stand up for long,
she falls down, weak as brittle leaves.
Daddy won’t help her up at all
She shakes and breaks, fading away.

Daddy is all she has just now,
Never smiling, always yelling.
Like a whisper within her ear
Sometimes she stops to know he’s there.

There’s a happy ending somewhere
but not here, with this sad little girl
who takes the world on her shoulders.
Go on, hoping for the new to be better.

To Him

To love would be a giving up
Of what I now know and have known.
Yet he took my hand to understand
That love is more an ember grown.

A garden tended and cared for,
Hard work but worth the pay
I'll never let you see the door,
And we'll work together all day.

I am vulnerable, it's true,
but reward is so much kinder
Than those who are set to hurt you
So could you be any blinder?

Don't stop the music at its start
Power reverberates through the air
Sticking to your mouth, the lips part
"I hate you," even makes you care.

It's uncontrollable like fire
Consuming ever-beating heart
Strong enough to stand the ire
And never close to fall apart

"I love you," makes you warm and glow
but somewhere deep inside you fear
that they are but temporary words
For now I'll savor every bite of this
Got YWS?

You judge others upon their actions, but you judge yourself by your intention.

Guiding Light

feel the thrash within your bone, sinew, flesh
gasping, aching for inspiration to breathe out
to clean white paper, letting the ink rub off

how you allude the ones who need you most
can you tell me your name, address, something?
I have my notes ready and am eager to learn

Google, give me oodles of useless knowledge
Facebook, tell me about all the people I never talk to
YWS, write out some prose to inspire me

Push our eyes back into their places
positioned in front, never behind
the glass-hard look unblinking
Thinking back to silver hoops
on each side, swaying in air
Wait, stay right there
where you are
I plan to put
the eyes
in a jar
Got YWS?

You judge others upon their actions, but you judge yourself by your intention.
