So, quick little explanation of what'll be happening every post. I'll be doing a poem a day, of course, but I have two other things. This will be my blog for a month as well, so I'll be listing off a song every day, like I do with my daily blog posts. Chances are, my poem will match the song that I list, so if you're reading my posts, which you won't, look up the song and listen while you read.

Second, the title isn't just a silly title; "I Can't Destroy the World Today" was the second masterpiece of a poem that I ever wrote. It was a fun, free verse, list poem on why I couldn't destroy the world. Since I can't find that one copy anywhere in my house, I'm going to write a new version, but to bring it together with NaPoWriMo, I'm going to make one new line each day/post. Then, at the end of the month, I'll have one extra poem. Or, maybe I'll use it as my final poem for this.

That's about it. I do most of my writing during school hours, so I'll be making my first poem post later today. I'm hoping high that I can pull off 30 poems. Have a lucky day!
"I'm fearless in my heart
They will always see that in my eyes
I am the passion, I am the warfare
I will never stop
Always constant,
Accurate,
Intense"

Song of the day is "Ice Cream Man" by Van Halen. I'll try my best not to pick that band again, as I have in the past. This piece was written about my ice cream sandwich, but it might mean somebody else...some day...

Oh, and the list poem starts with this one line, just like the original;
"I can't destroy the world today"

April 1st
Sweet

You're my sweet little
delecacy
Every kid on the block knows
you're so tasty
You're a sweet little scoop
of paradise
You're true colours make
a rainbow and more
and each colour's nice and different
that's for sure
And you may not be
too healthy for me
but you're just too sweet
for that to be seen
But the greatest thing about you
that I can find
is that you're not for sale
you're mine all mine
And I hope you're like that
'till you melt and die.
"I'm fearless in my heart
They will always see that in my eyes
I am the passion, I am the warfare
I will never stop
Always constant,
Accurate,
Intense"

Song of the day is "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine.

I've been racking my brain all day about what to write for my next poem, and that frustration helped me come up with an idea. A tip for all artists; stress can be healthy if you can put it on a canvas (or on paper, or in music).

"My evil lair is messed and cluttered"

April 2
Rage

The fire in my belly is heating up
faster than I can run
and stronger than I can push.
It's red as my blood,
it's dark as the night,
and dangerous as a dragon.
It reflects no light,
only traps it inside
just to dissolve it to nothing.
It's deep in my heart
yet expelled through my hands
It can take control
over my actions and thoughts
and forces me into risk.
But I wouldn't give it up
in a million years
for internal, eternal bliss.
If I had full control,
I'd still be in the shadows
and I wouldn't be speaking right now.
It might be strong as a dragon
but to tame it like a mutt
is a fine life task for our society.
"I'm fearless in my heart
They will always see that in my eyes
I am the passion, I am the warfare
I will never stop
Always constant,
Accurate,
Intense"

Song of the day is "Boys are Back in Town" by Thin Lizzy.

This piece is dedicated to the bizarre techno music that was playing in Cafe Deux Soleils tonight before the musicians started. They rocked the house, by the way.

"All my minions have gone on strike"

April 3
The Beat

I'm being carried away
by a unique rumble above
that grabs imagination by the collar
and little habits by the belt.
It makes my personality spasm
and my fingers twiddle and tap
in accordance with the sound
and the rhythm flowing around.
"Why feed this creature?"
I sometimes wonder
when I've miraculously escaped
its airbourne, roaring cages.
But then I think to myself,
"Why the hell not?
Will it kill me to follow the flow?"
Perhaps I'm just insane.
It's possible, I suppose.
Being captured by the beat is a fetish
which has become an addiction
and I can't ever, not ever,
get enough of that desire.
And is this, in the least,
a problem of mine
if I actually enjoy it
as much as I do?

Exactly my point.

I'll follow the beat
wherever it takes me
because wherever
is where I wish to go.
And that's why I didn't answer
your questions or calls;
I was busy sitting in peace
in the prison cell I love to death.
"I'm fearless in my heart
They will always see that in my eyes
I am the passion, I am the warfare
I will never stop
Always constant,
Accurate,
Intense"

Song of the day is "Evil" by Mercyful Fate. What? So I like to listen to Mercyful Fate music once in a while. Don't judge me.

This piece was written while watching Law Abiding Citizen.

"And my guns are out of ammo"

April 4
War

I've looked in books of history
and in books of ancient lore
and not once have I seen a war
without no blood and gore.
It really is quite shameful,
you really must agree,
because not a man I know envies
that pain our race has seen.
We're a race that worships Ares
who looks at us from above,
putting us in worst-case scenarios
to make war, not peace and love.
But it's all our job to tame it
from a monster to a pet,
to make an act of violence
into just an empty threat.
Sure we wouldn't intimidate
without our swords or rockets,
and we'd all die deaths of innocence,
from age to forks in sockets,
but without our killing nature
there'd be no bravery or vengance,
and to live in a world just like that...
I couldn't bear it. I need that justice.
I plan to finish every battle,
no matter what the cost,
and even just fighting alone
means I'll have never lost.
I've got to win and I must keep up
this history of ours.
Just remember, each battles not one person's;
it's mine as much as yours.
"I'm fearless in my heart
They will always see that in my eyes
I am the passion, I am the warfare
I will never stop
Always constant,
Accurate,
Intense"

Nice writing, and just wanted to say that I like the surprise ending of the first and third poems. The fourth confused me in terms of its rhyme - what rhyme is it meant to have, exactly? It seems to rhyme in strange places, and not in others - or is that the intention? I think a poem on war would do better to be continuous and marching (if describing the event itself - if describing the aftermath, perhaps fragmented and broken) than it would to be disjointed and with an up-down time. On the other hand, in the first one, I like the clear long-short-long-short structure that makes it all the sweeter (!) - it's so beautifully clear.

Good luck with your thirty poems. This is the first time I've ever tried anything of the sort, so wish me luck too!

Song of the day is "3's and 7's" by Queens of the Stone Age.

I'll be honest, this poem is for homework. English class, we needed to write a poem where we made up words, but I still like it enough to post it.

"Some super heroes came by yesterday"

April 5
The Illets

I promise you that, every day,
the show always will go on,
underneath the brackering sun,
or underneath the sickling moon.
Not a single thing stands
in your target or way
other than those fake Illets
in your ambition's road.
And they're fake for a reason,
don't you know?
They all go by the names
of John and Jane Doe.
And when you walk through them,
you'll hear them dizzle,
and if you won't step through them on your own,
then allow me to help and push you forward.
"I'm fearless in my heart
They will always see that in my eyes
I am the passion, I am the warfare
I will never stop
Always constant,
Accurate,
Intense"

The song of the day is "Wild Thing" by Tone Loc, but it has no reference to the song, like I've tried so far.

Ugh. Really thought I wouldn't get a piece up at all today, and I wrote it at school, but I never got around to typing it up and posting it. So yay! Six days down!

"and they collapsed my cavern base"

April 6
Network

From the air vent in my classroom,
To the vent inside the gym,
In the mouths of quiet students,
And out with words of loud ones,
Right into teachers pockets,
Out and underneath the deske,
Then through the carpet, through some cracks,
To the boiler room below,
Into the ears of the school grease monkey,
In his head walking down the halls,
And while repairing the door, it slips out with sweat,
To the doorway floor of my class
Whisping with footsteps through the frame
And back into the vent above my head
"I'm fearless in my heart
They will always see that in my eyes
I am the passion, I am the warfare
I will never stop
Always constant,
Accurate,
Intense"

Howler --

I think it's interesting that you're playing off songs. I can't do that, it never sounds right, but I like the train of thoughts you tend to go on. Especially in April 3rd and April 6. Especially April 6.

Not a huge fan of the rhyming in War though.
