A Note on Round Pairings: 2 people will be advancing from each of the 4 group (and the remaining 10 wil be moved to a redemption bracket for another chance to move on). I grouped people by assigning each person a number that was generated randomly by excel.
Important Reminder: You can change your poem as many times as you want, but the final entry must be posted by (10 pm Central). If you fail to post your poem on time, your entry will not be considered. The poem that you post must have been written by you in April. Let me know if you have any questions.
Good Luck!
you should know i am a time traveler & there is no season as achingly temporary as now
Ok. Sounds very straightforward. But, just to clarify... I have to write a poem and submit it before the time you gave above, right? And then... do I have to do something? What are the groups for?
You just submit a poem in this thread that you have written in April before the time I gave above. And it will be judged (by our 5 wonderful judges) against the 4 other people you are grouped with to see which folks are advancing to the next round. (the 2 people with the highest scores will advance from each group).
So you don't necessarily have to worry about the groupings at all - but they're posted so you know who you're going up against this round - the picture bracket under the spoiler makes it a little clearer if that helps at all.

Slightly weird to be submitting first, but I figured I'd ping some peeps too to see if I can spark other submissions XD

las flores bonitas
maybe one day i can plant a garden filled with lilies to start, and compare our freckled-as-stars skin and petals
la flor amable greets me as i walk past, her yellow-tinged orange petals as sunsets meet my palm as a greeting.
los royales son muy bonitos with their white color that shines far brighter than the sun can through the current storm.
the rain patters the ground as i meet my almost favorite one, if i could play favorites among que las acepté fueron las mas hermosas en un solo lugar.
stargazer, florists dubbed thee, probably because they lost themselves in your dotted deep-purple blooms that bleed pale at the edges, that curls delicately.
for now, i sit on the soft ground, hoping to find a place one day among my flowers, but satisfied that i might have found a family here, in the soft embrace of silky petals.
name: key/string/perks pronouns: she/her/hers and they/them/theirs
novel: the clocktower (camp nano apr 24) poetry: the beauty of the untold (napo 2024)
Haha this is probably the most out-there poem I've written this month, so maybe a bit of a risk. But at least someone will get a kick out of it, right?
Spoiler! :
Boring
Door shuts with click. I shuck off jeans, toss ‘em, and pull on shorts that make a little swip swip because athletic fabric be like that.
I snap this week’s towel from hook and drop it into laundry basket, where it hits dirty clothes with a paff before settling. Detergent joins in, thudding like a dropped bowling ball. Dryer sheets are silent, little assassins.
Then I scrape basket off ground, grinding plastic against linoleum. Ssschkt. I rest it on my hip, grunting, and shove through door again.
TGIF y’all.

i think there’s a monster inside of me— a powerful, angry beast. i’m good at quieting his roars, but sometimes the noise overwhelms me. i can feel him prowling around in the center of my chest, causing a painful, irritating knot. the monster is a brilliant shade of red as he utters a low growl.
i’ve seen the power of other monsters, and how they destroy those that have them. they disguise themselves and blend in with the throbbing of gentle hearts. they’re just as colorful as my own, but are never seen by the ones they control. some are sorrowful blues and quivering purples. others are envious greens. and some are the same bright scarlet as my monster.
they infect the rest of the heart, and the heart is never the wiser. i’ve tried to keep my monster trapped in a cage where no one can ever find him. but sometimes he finds a way to escape. i always catch him before the world can figure out that he exists, but i still tremble and turn pale when i realize i can never truly stop him.
