I've never done NaPo but I figure I might as well since I'm a wimp and am not doing Screnzy.. This flame will probably burn out pretty fast but I at least want to give it a shot. I'll try to do different styles of poetry, not just my normal free verse stuff. They'll probably be boring and terribly written lines about how I'm not good at poetry but I'm going to be a good sport and try. Maybe this will help me get some of that poetic imagery out that I use in my writing...maybe I'll get some ideas. I hope you'll check back in here and let me know how I'm doing. I know I'll be stalking some people's threads (Kylan). Good luck everybody!

Here's my first poem. I have a feeling a lot of these poems will go back to my novel And The Light Fades. References to fires and seeing things (or not seeing them) all connect to it. I'm editing it now so don't be surprised if you see more like this.

#1. A Flower's End

Sweet wind whispers as the flowers burn,
smoke swirls invisible kissing the trees.
My last hope of heaven is
burning…charred and unrecognizable.

Pictures crumble, memories aflame.
Her past dies with her future.
I sit tangled in a sea of tears
and forgotten laughs.

She has met her end as had
so many before her.
I watch as other had before me
and wonder what I was supposed to see.
There is a light in you, a Vision in the making with sorrow enough to extinguish the stars. I can help you.

#2. Rainfall

Blacktop trails behind me,
memories of what could have been
flood back.
Falling over me like
rain,
Drip drop.

I pray for the chance to forget.
To move on.
To be cleansed by
rain,
drip drop.

But the photograph falls
from the visor.
And any chance of forgetting
is lost in the rain.
drip drop.
There is a light in you, a Vision in the making with sorrow enough to extinguish the stars. I can help you.

Oh how this one sucks...
#3. Untitled.

Words tickle your strawberry lips,
Magic threatens to spill from them.
A voice encased in a child’s giggling,
Words enveloped in hope,
A melody cloaked with joy.
A song that shows your beauty.
There is a light in you, a Vision in the making with sorrow enough to extinguish the stars. I can help you.

Irrigation of the land with seawater desalinated by fusion power is ancient. It's called 'rain'.
