Actually JFW1415, it's "i are WRITER!!!". I simultaneously ignore my caps-lock and abuse it. Why? Because I'm amazing, that's why.

On a test today, I saw a glaring comma error that bugged me:

Please, bubble in A for true and B for false on the scantron sheet.

Anyone else agree that the comma wasn't supposed to be there?

I get very twitchy when I come across errors on YWS. Especially when I know I can correct some of them through the power of critique. The others, well, they're regular posts, and I can't just pop into a thread, correct them, and poof away. I wish I had mod powers so I could edit the posts with a maniacal laugh before they drive me crazy. DX

The past 2 or 3 books I read all had some sort of grammer error in them. Missing peiod, missplelled words, apostrophes or commas where they shouldn't be. I was looking at my friend's book and flipped to the back.

When I read the last sentace it ended with a comma. I wanted to take my pen and start marking all the errors out and fixing them.

On a local dry cleaner's sign:

DAILY SPECIALS EVERY DAY

... the heck???

I'm really happy with how nerdy people in my school are, though. Back in February the sophomore class council put up signs advertising "Data Match" which is a Valentine's Day tradition of sorts.

The signs said, "Who are you compatible with?"

Someone corrected it on a third floor sign: "[s]Who[/s] With whom are you compatible[s] with[/s]?"

Made my day.

In the training guide at my new job, they constantly had apostrophes with words that were plural, not posessive.

Anyways, I HATE it when people do this:

Item, item and item.

It's SUPPOSED to be:

Item, item[COMMA] and item.

The newspapers do it without the last comma to save space/money, so everyone does it. Apparently that's not correct, but so many people think it is now it has become acceptable either way. It just bugs me, though.

I think the same way you do, actually. However, I think it is optional. I just back myself up anyway, lol.

If I remember correctly, which I'm pretty sure I do since I think of it all the time, the books I own by Tamora Pierce have a good number of typos. Another book I read not too long ago had run-on sentence after run-on sentence. I wanted to murder it! I usually do a good job ignoring grammatical stuff like that when it comes to novels, but when the author can't decide which floor the Chamber of Secrets is on or don't know how to fix a run-on sentence, I can't take it.

And yes, I haven't read the book in a while, but the Chamber of Secrets first said it was on the first floor, and a few pages later it was on the second floor.

It's acceptable either way, according to Eats, Shoots & Leaves. In school I was taught not to use an extra comma but I've always done so anyway. A lot of people pick it up as being wring and it does get a little annoying.

I'm not completely sure. My mom's business won't let her do it for the space. Some of my teacher's yell at us if we put them in, and others yell at us if we don't.

I guess people have done it both ways for so long that now it really is just whatever you want. It still bugs me, though.
