The Edge Chronicles are written by Paul Stewart, and illustrated (brilliantly) by Chris Riddell. These books follow the life of a young boy named Twig who was raised by wood-trolls, until the age of thirteen when he realised that was not where he belonged. In the first installment you follow Twig's journey through the Twilight woods, which is most unlike the other books in the series and is more of a prequel (but I loved it.) At the end of the first book Twig finds his father who pilots a Sky Ship, which is basically a flying pirate ship with no magic involved just fantasy science (another element that is brilliant.) So the following books chronicle the adventures of the ships crew through fantastic worlds. I said fantasy meets Dr. Seuss because the illustrations and names of the creatures are like a slightly more twisted Dr Seuss. This does not make the books corny an provides interesting looks to the different characters, giving a better sense of the world itself.
If you haven't read any of these books I strongly recommend you do.
I'm sorry this is my first review and I'm terrible at it.
