~Nayeli~

Nayeli ran as fast as she could in her human form, Nanook at her side. She hadn't realized she'd crossed into rival territory, nor did she care. She should though. Any elder from this tribe would know she was the chief's daughter. Nanook gripped her hand in his jaws and ran faster, Nayeli tumbling behind him. He let go, allowing Nayeli to fly forward and roll across the grass. "Mmm, I love the smell of grass in the morning," she giggled.

As do I. I guess I could call it... comforting? Nanook barked a laugh as he plopped down next to Nayeli, his long-haired coat rippling in the sunlight. Nayeli pet his fur lovingly before sitting up and yawning. Something about taking a long run and then laying down in the sun made her tired. She flipped back onto the ground and closed her eyes, completely oblivious to the young male that strode nearby.

Lance carefully moved in the woods listening to everything. He heard the girl running and he slowly walked towards her.

Careful, I'm not sure I trust her or that dog. Mirry said. He laughed.

You never were very trustworthy when it came to people. He laughed back getting closer. Mirry pushed at his side then moved into the woods watching, but hiding.

"Grass does smell good." He said leaning against the tree. The girl jumped and the dog at her side jumped in front of her. "I'm not going to hurt you." He grinned.

Nayeli~

Nayeli stared at the young man, her brows knitted together. Do you think he knows who I am? She asked Nanook mentally, glancing at him quickly but then back at the man. He was extremely attractive. No! She couldn't think like that! Attraction was just a waste of time, as was love.

It doesn't seem like it. I mean that his face doesn't hold any realization, nor does his mind. Nanook pressed himself against Nayeli, his wise eyes never once leaving the man.

"Um... hello," Nayeli finally spoke, her voice timid, "Might I ask," she cleared her throat nervously, "who you are?" Nanook hid a dogish smirk and just looked up at her, his eyes slightly glinting with humor, as if he was laughing at her nervousness.

"Lance Bearheart, and you?" The young man smiled ever so slightly.

"Nayeli," she looked down at Nanook, "and my dog is Nanook."

I like the term 'gaurdian' better. He huffed.

Yeah, well if I said you're my animal guardian because I can shift into a dog. Woof woof! Would be pretty odd don't you think? Nanook didn't reply. So haha my little doggy.

He smiled and sat down leaning against the tree. "Nice looking dog." He smiled. "My bear could eat it for lunch." he smiled. The dog growled,

"You have a bear?" She asked her eyes widening a little. She wasn't supposed to believe that! He hissed to Mirry.

"Have you ever heard of anyone with a bear as a pet?" He asked. He wasn't lying, but he wasn't answering her question.

"Well, no." She replied. He smiled and laughed.

"Me either." He stood up. "want to go for a walk?"

Nayeli ~

Nayeli sunk down to Nanook's level, her forehead pressed to his. Is it okay with you Nanook? She asked with her good eye closed. Nanook seemed to ponder over this for a moment before pulling away and barking angrily once. A deep frown broke across Nayeli's face as she stood up as well. "That'd be nice, but sadly I have to get back to my family." Of course it was a lie. She could stay out until past moonhigh, but Nanook didn't trust this boy, so how could she? Nanook had said he was hiding something. "It was nice meeting you," she pretended to think about his name, "Lance?" He just nodded slowly.

Okay. Let's get out of here. If you want to go for another run there's a field on ally grounds, where it will be much safer, and I can actually trust some people and find out if they're lying or not. Nanook snorted and gripped her hand in his jaws once again, beginning to lead her away.

Lance frowned and bit his lip. "Ah, come on now, do you really have to go home?" He asked.

"Yes, I really have to go home." She replied. "Sorry, maybe I'll see you later."

"Alright, bye Nayeli." He smiled. You'll see me soon cause I'm going to scare that stupid dog of yours. He thought. He probably wouldn't see her again anyways, she didn't like him. So he would give her a good scare. He ran back into the woods and shifted quickly his big paws padding across the ground as he ran so he could cut them off.

LANCE! Are you crazy! Mirry demanded.

Yes, crazy bored. That horse hunt was dull. He replied as he cut in front of where the dog and Nayeli would be. He saw them come out of the clearing and Mirry moved towards him to get him to leave, he didn't plan on it though. He stood on all fours watching her, she hadn't spotted him yet.

**Lol, this is random but I've been addicted to Lonestar lately**

Nayeli~

Nayeli looked back into the clearing, squinting to see if Lance was still there. Of course he wasn't. Gone as fast as a rabbit to his burrow while being chased by a fox. Nanook finally dropped her hand, sitting on a large rock, his eyes adverted deep in the woods. "What's up with you? Huh? What was so wrong with him? What was so untrustworthy about him?" Nayeli sat down if front of Nanook and rubbed him between the ears. He arched his head up against her hand in joy of being scratched.

Nothing. I just didn't trust him fully. Especially the look on his face when you asked him if he had a bear. Nanook smiled in pleasure as Nayeli's nails continued to scratched behind his ear.

"So you think he really has a bear?" Nayeli resisted the urge to laugh.

Yes. I do. Now, let's go before those rival tribes find out we're here. Nanook shook his coat and jumped off the rock, beginning to pad away. Nayeli hurried after him, soon at his side.

"Rival this. Rival that. Who cares if they're out 'rival'," she put air quotes around the word, "That's all I ever hear from you and father. 'Don't go on rival lands! They'll kill you!' or 'Let's get out of here, the rival tribes might find us!'" She mustered the best impersonation of her father and Nanook. "And, in all truth. It's getting kind of old." She sighed and shook her head, stretching her arms above her head an yawning.

Lance moved slowly forward watching her. She came into the clearing looking at her dog and talking to it.

Lance, stop. There's something strange about her. Mirry said.

Ya, she's gorgeous. He replied with a laugh. He laid in the grass as they got closer. When they were ten feet away he stood up and she stopped in front of them. The dog jumping in front and growling.

**I'm going to change a few things in her history**

Nayeli~

Bear. Big bear. Big, able to blind the other eye, bear. Was the only thing racing through Nayeli's mind as Nanook stood in front of her, growling minacingly. A violent shudder, that was uncommon in the spring, racked her body. Nanook demanded that she calmed down but all she could hear was her thundering heartbeat in her ear.

Nayeli. Shift. Nayeli just shook her head tightly. You have to! I need help me in case it attacks. Nayeli shook her head again. Nayeli! She swallowed deeply and in seconds a red-brown dog stood in her spot, growling weakly as she an Nanook stalked around the bear. Bears brought back to many memories. Way to many memories. The bear turned, following their every move. Another shudder racked Nayeli's body, freezing her on the spot, terror dancing in her good eye, and visible in her blind one.

The bear's, however, looked suprised, shocked, and in awe all at the same time.

Lance moved back a little but the other dog was standing behind him.

There are others like me! He gasped to Mirry.

I guess yes is the answer to that. Mirry replied. He walked over and sat down a few feet away. Shift or your going to have some nasty marks on you in the morning.

Why?

Because they will attack, but you knowing what and who it is won't. Just then her dog jumped up on his back. He didn't let himself growl. He grabbed it with his paw and held it to the ground. Nayeli growled a little feircer and started to come at him. He quickly shifted jumping away from her dog and holding up his hands. Mirry quickly jumped in front of him sitting down in an unthreatining way, but also blocking any attacks that were aimed at him.

Nayeli~

Nayeli soon noticed what happened and jumped away from the other bear, shifting back to her normal form. Nanook. Stop and come here. She demanded, her eyes wide with disbelief. Nanook gave the bear one last growl before stalking back over to Nayeli, the fur on his back bristling. He took a good look at the scene before him in silence and surprise. He's like us. Nayeli smiled gently.

Guess so. Nanook replied lowly.

But I thought the wise woman said that there was nobody else like us. Nanook nudged Nayeli's hand gently.

As did I, but this just proves her wrong. Nanook stared back at Lance and his bear.

Nayeli's eyes drifted on Lance's while she replied with a, Yeah.

"I guess you really do have a bear." She said looking at Mirry.

"Ya." He shrugged and leaned against Mirry's back wrapping his arms around Mirry's neck. "This is Mirry, he's my guardian, at least that is what he tells me."

Shut up. Mirry hissed at him.

"We never thoguht there was anyone else like us. I mean, it's kinda rare that someone can do what we do." He smiled laying his head against Mirry's soft fur. She looked nervous around the big bear.

Normal people are scared of bears! Mirry reminded him.

Nayeli~

Nayeli cleared her throat and looked down at Nanook, who still had his fur raised. "Well, Nanook's my guardian, but you probably already figured that out." Nayeli laughed nervously, scratching the back of her neck. Someone's coming and they're from his tribe, we've got to go. As if on cue, hooves of horses treaded across the clearing, coming toward where they all stood at a quick pace.

Wait! What if they don't know who I am? I mean he didn't. What's the chance that they won't? Nayeli looked from Nanook, back to the clearing, then at Lance, her eyes dripping with worry.

You want to take those chances?! Nanook's fur heated with rage when Nayeli nodded.

If he knows then we'll just run.

If he knows then we'll just run. Nanook repeated mockingly. Don't you think that this... this Lance and his bear will turn on you the second they find out?! Nayeli didn't answer. Thought so. Let's go. Nanook gripped Nayeli's hand and tried to pull her away right as a man, sitting high upon his horse rode into the woods right next to them.

Lance:

Mirry disappeared into the woods when the man showed up and Lance quickly faced him.

"Who is this, Lance?" The man asked.

"A friend." Lance replied.

"Your needed back at the village so that we can work with the horses. Adahy is working with the bay right now." The man said.

"Alright, i'll be along in a few minutes." Lance replied.

"No, you will come now, the girl too." The man turned and rode off towards his village. He frowned and looked back at Nayeli.

"If you don't come back to the tribe they'll hunt you down." HE said softly.
