***Ya, he's still in the school, I didn't think of that. But ya, he is.***

Dusty:

Dusty let him help her up then smiled. "It's ok, I really should've been paying more attention. " She saw Kaleb walking over and groaned mentally, he better not get all protective brother. The guy hadn't meant to run into her. "I'm Dusty." She smiled extending her hand. "And that jerk coming over is my brother, Kaleb."

Kaleb:

Kaleb took Dusty's teasing in stride and smiled at her letting her know she wasn't getting to him. He looked at the guy in front of her and waited to hear his name.

~~~
"Uh, hi. I'm Haven." I said, looking at Dusty but watching Kaleb out of the corner of my eye. You could never be too on-gaurd around older brothers.
"Haven? That's really original. I like it."
I smiled at her just a bit. My mask smile. Not the smile I used for Erica, but one that hid the fact that I really didn't care.
"You're a senior, right?" I said to the older brother.
Kaleb:
Kaleb nodded, "Yup, last year until I get out of here." He replied looking the kid over. After years of having to read people he could tell his smile was fake. He didn't really care why at the moment either. Dusty smiled, she was way to nice at times. Course this wasn't a time to be rude, but she might end up being nice to the wrong people.
"Ya, he deserts me at the end of this year." She replied glaring at him. It was a touchy subject with them. They were never very far from each other.
Dusty:
Dusty smiled back at Haven though. "I have about five minutes to get to class, and I still have to get my books. I'll see you around." She smiled and walked past him shooting Kaleb a 'you better behave look.
……………..
I stared out at the water, keeping my eye on the signature. It was a light blue glow around the girl and looked just like the others I had seen in my last class. This may be easier than I thought. HA! Told you Sam!
…………….
This was just a short filler chapter. I need to wait so everyone can catch up to third hour. Welcome back TN! :)
Ok, I'm going to try this.
Kneph-
I stifled a yawn as I made my way into the school, first checking in at the office then going to find Mr. Sanders. The people at the office hadn't been able to supply information on where he would be and had left me on my own. Not that it was hard.
I opened the door to his classroom and stepped inside, only to be met with a pile of books and papers scattered about. The room itself was dark with the only light spilling in from the hallway and the one window on the south wall. Mr. Sanders sat in his chair, feet propped up on his desk, tapping a pen to his lip.
He didn't glance up as I entered. I gathered the books and papers and piled them back on the desk.
"Sorry I'm late, Mr. Sanders."
He glanced up finally and smiled. "Don't worry about it. And please, Kneph, my name is Sam."
I nodded. "Sorry. Is there anything I can do?"
"Not at the moment. I'm just waiting for my next class."
Gregory-
I looked up at the clock. There were twenty more minutes to go in math class. Why is it that math always goes so much slower than the other classes? I looked back at the clock, nineteen more minutes to go.
"Gregory, would you finish the equation." The teacher was looking directly at me. I sighed and reluctantly went up to the front of the class.
~~~~~

The bell rang loudly after 18 torturous minutes of the teacher feeding Gregory math problem after math problem, because of course, he was the only one who could do them.
Gregory practically sprinted out of class, with me, Dusty, and Lilith on his heels. We had all our classes together today.

Great.

I didn't mind Dusty I suppose, but Gregory and Lilith got on my nerves.

The class was 'music appreciation'. And what was funny, we had two teachers. That Mrs. Greene lady from history that morning, and a new guy named Mr...Sam?

I shook my head as I walked down the hall. Crazy teachers.

"Talking to yourself?"

I jumped when Erica poked me lightly between my shoulder blades.

"No!" I said,unconvincingly.

She grinned. And I smiled back. Her red hair was wet, making it look darker, and longer and somehow making her look more...perfect, if possible.

Whoa, where did that come from?

I was so startled by my own thoughts that I barely heard Erica's question.

"So, what class you got next?"

"What? Oh, umm...music appreciation."

"I thought they stopped that in elementary school?" she said, making a face.

"They did." I said.

As much as I loved music, I hated music appreciation. I got so sick of hearing about the people who pioneered the great musical movements, and how they did it, that by the end of it I was usually so starved to hear music that I was sure I'd go crazy.

"Well, here we are," I said, opening the door for Erica and Dusty, who had just come up behind us.

"Thanks, Haven," they both said.

I walked in after them, sliding into a seat next to Erica, which also happened to be the closest to the door.
Looking up, I saw Mrs. Greene (joy of joys), and a young guy who was probably Mr. Sam.

But there was a third person. His back was turned to us, as he was talking to Mr. Sam. But he didn't even have to turn around. I knew it was the guy from the subway.

Erica must have knew it too, because she poked me in the ribs, and leaned over, about to say something. But the teachers didn't give her a chance.

"So, class," Mr. Sam said, standing up. "Shall we begin?"

…………….

I had finally returned from the most boring meeting at the pool with the three signatures blazing in my head. Now it was time for music appreciation (oh how lovely). I was an English teacher yet Sam got me stuck with him in his next class. I fumed and walked in seeing a tan boy in front of Samuel’s desk.

“Sam, who’s this?” I asked, gesturing towards the boy. He turned at me and made me gasp inwardly. His eyes were multicolored, one a type of gold, the other a grey-blue.

“What?” he asked with an Egyptian accent.

“N-nothing…”

“Um, Jaden this is Kneph. He’s a transfer student from Egypt. Kneph, this is Miss Greene.”

“Hello Kneph,” I stretched out my hand for him to shake but he just nodded. I took it back right before the bell rang. I turned and saw kids file inside the classroom with bored and annoyed looks on their faces. Looks like I wasn’t the only one who saw this class pointless.

When everyone had sat down, Sam stood up and welcomed the class. “Shall we begin?” Sam asked.

A grumble came from the other students when I went over and stood by Kneph.

“This is Kneph, he’s a transfer student from… Egypt, and he is your knew classmate.”

A few slow claps then silence. I looked over at Kneph nervously and motioned to a seat for him. He remained silent and indifferent as he went to sit down.

“Okay, let’s get going. We’re going to have you all listen to some music and then we will discuss it,” said Sam

No response. Great.

Sam went over to the CD player and punched the play button. Classical music started flowing from the speakers. I was ready to fall asleep before it started.

………………………

Kneph, I’m sorry if I got the eye colors wrong.

**I'm Ba-ack!**
**sorry this took so long, I would type something up, go to post it, then something else was up. grrr. but that's a good thing!**

{Erica}

“If he’s from Egypt, why is he here in this class?” Haven leaned over and whispered as Mr. …Sam…put a CD in. I shrugged, the same question going through my mind. Music started to play.

Haven closed his eyes in complete tranquility, relaxing visibly. I smiled as the song flowed through me like water does in osmosis (not a word…not a word). A violin or viola or whatever started playing a solo and something clicked in my brain. Memories. This was his favorite song.

I bit my lip and took my concentration off of the music, however tempting it was. It seemed to take years for the song to end but it finally did and the two teachers gave each other looks, which was slightly comical.

“What was the song about?” Mr. Sam asked. No one looked eager to answer. He frowned and looked across the room. Of course he would look at me. Red hair is a beacon for teachers. “And you are?”

Nonexistent? “Erica.”

“Erica, what did the song make you think about? How did it make you feel?” What are you, my shrink? I knew every rise and fall of that song; what it was about and such. Which was why I couldn’t answer.

“I…uh…don’t know.” I glance at Haven, who was frowning slightly. For some odd reason, I didn’t want him looking at me like that. Time to revise. “I think it was about the rise and fall of happiness. That solo was about someone’s independence after a hard time in their life. That’s why it took so long for the song to get loud and lively again…at least, that’s what I think.”

I didn’t look at anyone, just at my hands.

“That works.” Mr. Sam said, and I looked up to see his stunned face. Ahh crap. He’ll expect me to put 110% into everything now. Crap.

*Yeah!!! I get some writing time!!!*

Gregory-

I didn't know why everyone hated classical music so much. I could see everyone cringing all through the song, but lucky for them the teacher didn't. At least, he didn't let on that he did.

After asking a few of us questions about the song, he put on another and asked us to think how it differed from the first song.

Haven
~~~~~
I recognized this song immediately: Mars, Bringer of War by Holst.
My favorite classical piece. It always reminded me of old sci-fi, something like Star Trek, or Star Wars. I smiled in spite of the dark entry to the song.
Mr. Sam let it play until it reached the loud drum beat (the best part was after that) and then shut it off.
I scowled at him, and he must have caught it, because he said,
"Ok, Haven, how was this piece different from the first one?"
I wanted to say: "Well, I don't know, you didn't give me enough time to even hear it."
But instead I took a deep breath and said,
"This one was different from the first because of the tone and pace. This one has an overtone of...well, war, and of mystery and power. If you would have let us hear the ending," I just couldn't resist, "We would have heard the loud, angry notes at the end, symbolizing the end of a battle, or better yet, a war. For better or for worse, I suppose."
I guess, in the back of my mind, I was surprising even myself by talking so much, but once I got started in that vein, I just couldn't stop. It felt so good to be analysing music again, like I used to with Allie.
"The other peice took a long time to get started and build to a crescendo; this one only had a short introduction, and then it was a head-on collision from there, something that, again, symbolises a war. And this piece is not a happy piece, unlike the other, which is another difference. The emotions you get from the other one: peace, hope, joy, etc. are completely different from the ones you get from this: anger, pride, malice, and a bit of sadness and hurt. And...I guess that's it." I said, ending lamely.
Mr. Sam was quiet for a moment, and then finally , he said, "Wow, Haven. I guess you really know your music. Where did you learn all that?"
"Umm, I've been studying it since I was little." I said, deciding not to tell the man any more than that. I had already said enough to last me all semester.
"Well, it's certainly paid off. You're exactly right. Shall we try another peice?"
As he popped another idsk in the player, I turned to Erica. She was looking at me with something akin to shock on her face. And possibly, a bit of respect.
~~~~
Sorry, couldn't resist, lol. I also wanted to show the school (and the mentors, :)) that Haven is smart, not just the weird, emo-ish kid who sits in the back of class and hums. lol.

And if you wanna listen, here's the peice he was describing:

……………….

I sat in my chair and listened to the third CD that Sam put in. It was a slow and graceful waltz with the flute and violin in a lovely duet. I looked out to the class and saw two sleeping, many bored, and only three other people who looked somewhat interested. Either that or they were very good suck-up actors (I doubt it).

Eventually Sam clicked the CD player off again and asked Gregory Halbit what he thought. I wish this class would end.

After telling in detail what I thought about the song. The teacher began to explain exactly what the composer had in mind when writing it. But before he could get two words in, the bell rang. Everyone jumped up, got their backpacks and left.

(Are we doing Trimesters or whatever the other thing is called? By the way, I’m making the football team suck...it’s really fun when your football team sucks. *Grins* and the Band is Kick-awesome! *clears throat*)

{Erica}

“That was different.’ Haven said as we walked out of the class. You know, like two friends. I hadn’t had one of those...well, in a long time. “You know, actually hearing the music.”

I nodded, letting a smile creep onto my face. My wet hair fell in front of my eyes and I resisted the urge to put it behind my ears. For some odd reason, the water against my skin was somewhat soothing.

“Yeah, it was different. But a good different.” I agreed, remembering. “That song...you knew a lot...what was it?”

“Mars, Bringer of War by Holst.” He said, a light sparking in his eyes.

“I guess I’ll have to listen to that...the whole thing.” I grinned, then remembered something.

“CRAP.” I put my hand over my mouth and glanced around. People were looking at me strangely. Maybe they hadn’t realized I was there until just now. I put my hand down.

“What?” Haven looked at me. Was that look worry?

“I have band next.” Haven raised his eyebrows and I glared at him. “I have to be there early, or I’ll get yelled at by Mr. Reisma...and by David for that matter. David’ll kill me if I get in trouble the fist day of school...” I hefted my shoulder bag to a more comfortable position. “Well...I guess I’ll see you around, Haven.” I gave him a smile and took off–a fast pace that was only barley walking.
