01. Holy
Revelation 4:8
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, and full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

The purest of white would still cease to come close
To the most flawless of them all–
Untouched by evil, unscathed by darkness.
The kingdom children will part their lips to worship,
And the angels will echo on the mountaintops
To the holiest One, our Lord, who is separate
From my sin, yet still loves me enough to dwell
Within my soul. May my transgressions be
Sanctified so I may be further in His sacred presence.

02. Love
1 John 4:16
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them

Those blinded cannot see
The heart of God
Whose every thought,
Action, and desire
Is from His love for us.
I often take granted
Of this, giving in
To fleshly urges
Yet when I draw near
Focused on His very being,
I am taught how to love
Just an ounce of the amount
Of His love for us.

03 - Mighty
Psalm 95:3
For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods

He sits
Above the princes and rulers
Above unnamed goddesses
Above the highest mountain top
Above the brewing storms
Above distant constellations
Above places we cannot comprehend
How could I ever worship anything here on earth?

04 - Faithful
Deuteronomy 7:9
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.

My lips break oaths,
But His cannot.
Every prophecy unravels flawlessly,
And through time and time again
We see that each word spoken
By, through, and of Him
Shall not be so easily forgotten,
But must ring heavy in all ears.
For each promise He grants,
Is as eternal as He.

05 - Sovereign
Psalm 71:5
For you have been my hope, sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth.

A speck of dust can drive me to madness
The buzz of a fly would irk me til sleep
I crave for a life of order, of peace, of perfection
Each detail must be controlled
Because if I cannot control the things around me
Then I will become controlled myself
But the leaves of my favorite plant will die
I’ll lose a friend I thought was forever
I’ll always barely miss the mark I aim for
Frowning during hidden blessings
Yet where that arrow strikes
Is where I was always meant to go

06 - Forgiving
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Sadness wraps itself around my heart
When I’m envious, when I lie, when my flesh
Controls my tongue—I become nauseous

In the mirror I stare, picking myself apart
For who I am deep within my core being
Something sickly, muddled and selfish

My eyes close as I sit cross-legged
With nowhere to go I cry with regret
Lamenting a song indefinitely sorrowful

I repent with all the might I may have left
The knot in my stomach becomes lighter
Until my shoulders release the tension

A silence of peace lingers in the air
My ached-self becomes full of grateful
benevolence
And the only word left to whisper is “Amen”

07 - Creator
Colossians 1:16
For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him.

Oh, my Lord,
I cannot fathom. You spoke all things into existence. Your breath gives and sustains life, life that can be taken away in an instant. From the farthest galaxy to the depths of the greatest ravine, my mind cannot grasp such glory. When my eyes admire the birds and wildflowers, I thank Your working hands, knowing that all things are beautiful from You. The complexity of knowledge to obtain, the function of each touch or move, how could it be without You? While wretched and beaten, our worth does not stray, for we are Your creation and You are our magnificent creator. Made for Your glory by the grace of Your majesty. May my heart be overjoyed and my awe be nothing but plentiful.

08 - Patient
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance

Each time I fall,
ruined with bloodied knees,
your hands reach down
to lift me up,
even if it’s many times every day.
You remain gentle,
granting me with Your encouragement
and instruction to rise
and keep going
no matter how many times
I may stumble along the way.
