Young Writers Society

This is my first NaPo, and I don't know what I'm doing. XD

The general theme for this thread is emotions, although not all of them will necessarily follow that. Some of them will be bunny themed, some of them will be a little more thoughtful, and some are just there to try and make you laugh.

(Thanks for clicking on my thread, by the way. )

Goals:

1. Write 30 poems (a very unique goal, totally not what everyone else is doing)
   a)Okay but also not everyday, just 30 in total
2. Try some styles I haven't before
   
3. Add bunnies in at least one poem
   a) Already finished this goal three days in so lets make it at least 3 poems
   b) Ooh, and a poem all about bunnies
4. Make this thread colorful in some way
5. Read everyone else's poems! (In my opinion the best part)
   a)And comment on them, if they allow!

Everyone says that cities
Are different from forests.
Are different from mountains.
Are different from oceans.
Are different
From everything.
How could all those be the same as us?

We built them.
We made them,
And they were made for us.
A scorpion didn’t create its desert.
A fish didn’t make its ocean.
But a human didn’t build a city.
We all did that together.

Tell me we aren’t a community of biological organisms.
Tell me we don’t interact and live and breathe every day.
Tell me we aren’t alive and tell me we aren’t real.
And then maybe, if that’s all true, I’ll believe that a city isn’t an ecosystem.

Because we are an ecosystem.
We are an organization of beings
With hopes. Thoughts.
Wants. Dreams. Desires.
Feelings.
Life.
Death.

We may have created our cities
But doesn’t a rabbit dig its own hole?
Doesn’t a spider create its own web?
Doesn’t a bird build its own nest?

We made a really fancy burrow and called it a subway;
A really fancy web and called it a store;
A really fancy nest and called it a house;
But it’s the life around you that makes it a home.

Lucky to have something to hope for
even when that hope fades.
Maybe it’s buried in your sock drawer.

When simple things like breathing become a chore
and when we cannot see anyone coming to our aid.

I thought joy bubbled so high it soared.
Instead it all fell down like a cascade.
Maybe it’s buried in your sock drawer.

When the internal battle becomes a war,
when your heart bleeds and you are so much more than afraid.

When did all the simple times wash away past the shore?
It’s too deep for you to wade.

Does happiness have the ability to fall through the floor?
Maybe it’d be better if you had stayed.

Broken Phone Charger

My life is like a broken phone charger.
I need it and I used to use it all the time,
but I got careless and let it fall.
Not because I wanted to,
but because my life is a clumsy mess.
It's broken and I don't know how to fix it.

Unlike a phone charger,
I can't get a new life,
no matter how hard

I want it

to be okay.
I want to stop hurting so badly
when my score is less than 93.
I want to be okay with myself
in my own body
in my own mind
with my own thoughts.

But at the same time,
I wish it was worse.
Maybe then it would be enough punishment
for everything I've done
for everything I've said
for everything I've been
and for everyone I've hurt.

Phone chargers don't get energy.
They give it.
And I've given as much as I can.
(Although it wasn't much to begin with)
At least if I'm broken,
then it means energy will stop going away from me.
Then where do I find the energy to do things everyday?
And why does it all keep draining away?

The Dance of Fire

The flame licks the blackened logs
Like grass blowing in the wind
The hum of the wood breaking
snap crackle pop
Like a box of rice krispies
Except fire isn’t as forgiving as cereal
Wildfires are serial killers

You see the reflection in a child’s eye
As she watches the candle flame
flicker in the dark room
Watching the fire in the hearth
You don’t imagine the wildfires

The light dances around you
The dance of peace
The dance of wonder
The dance of sorrow

Sometimes

Sometimes you wake up at 3 AM
And you're not very tired
And sometimes you wake up at 7:00
And you don't want to get out of bed
(But you get up anyway)

Sometimes the city lights give you a headache
And sometimes you stare at them in wonder
Sometimes the prospect of bothering others is unbearable
And sometimes you don't even care what they think
(I do)

Sometimes a dark night or a dark morning
haunts you just as deep as a horror movie
And sometimes it fills you with excitement for
everything that could happen when the sky burns blue
(Whether that excitement has roots of joy or fear depends)

Sometimes when you look at yourself in the mirror
you see all the little mistakes in yourself
and you want to tear it all out of the image
Ripping away everything about yourself that scares you
(You'll rip yourself apart)

Sometimes the world feels so small you feel you could put it in your pocket
And sometimes the world feels so large you feel like you're drowning
In everything you could never know
And in everything you should know
(but don't)

Sometimes the weight of everything you've done
Pulls you down like a sinking ship
And all you can do is try to keep your head above the surface
Sometimes, you want to let yourself drown
(But you keep your head up anyway)

Sometimes you'll hate yourself
And blame yourself for everything
(Even when it's not your fault)
Sometimes it will be hard to love yourself
Impossible, even
But "sometimes" doesn't mean impossible forever

Every moment feels like a computer program

Sometimes you get nothing
And sometimes you one

And lately all I get is

When I was younger, I thought I’d be a hero
Now I can’t think of myself as anything but a zero
When did the world become so bitter when you haven’t won?
I thought games were meant to be played for fun.

Life isn’t a game
So why does it feel like everyone has to have won
in order to be happy?

there must be a few words that mean i wish i didn’t exist
except i can’t find any of them
does it mean
i hate myself so much i want to crawl up in a ball and cry
does it mean
i’m so tired of myself and i’m tired of waiting for myself to do better
because i’m not better
i’m not better than anyone
i’m not even better than myself
and i’m never going to be better
i say i’ll try and try
but each time i say that i try less
and less
less

there are only a few words that mean i hate myself
merriam-webster claims there are 50 similar and opposite
words to self-loathing
but only 32% are similar
the rest are opposite
and some of them do not express
the feeling hating yourself brings to me
it isn’t shyness
it isn’t modesty
it’s i hope others don’t hate me as much as i do because
i wouldn’t wish it on my greatest enemy

what if that enemy is yourself
what if you wish you were hurting
