"I have a feeling you're right," Nicholas said gravely. Considering the title, it sounded rather irreverent. "I'd best steer clear of it."

Sadie grimaced and nodded, blushing a bit and glancing away. How did she always make things so awkward?

"Dad mostly likes serious stuff," Martin added. "He's a huge King Arthur geek, so the holy grail part would be right up his alley."

"Ah... yeah... it's... not that," Sadie said, glancing at him guiltily. "It's very... well... yeah, probably best not to."

"Fair enough." Nicholas shrugged. "I much prefer reading anyway."

“Are you reading anything good at the moment?” Sadie was grateful for the deflection.

Nicholas thought for a moment. He was reading a couple interesting books, none of which he figured she would enjoy. "I'm rereading Gawain and the Green Knight," he said after a pause. "It's an epic set in Arthurian legend. And I've recently picked up Don Quixote."

“Ooh! Those sound interesting. Well, I’ve heard Don Quixote can be a bit… long. But I’ve thought of reading the other one. I take it it’s good, if you’re re-reading it?”

"It's alright," Nicholas said with a shrug. "It isn't my favorite, but it brings up interesting themes. The writing is a bit dry for my taste. As for Quixote...it's perhaps the best book ever written. Quite long, but immensely enjoyable."

"That's good to know; perhaps I'll give it a try. Eventually... does the library have a copy?"

"It should; the library carries literature, mostly."

“Good to know.” She nodded. “I’ll check it out then maybe once the semester calms down a bit.”

"I highly recommend it. Just be patient with it; the narrative tends to wander."

Nicholas took a deep breath and straightened slightly. "It's generally about a wealthy old man who goes mad from reading too many books. He ends up believing he's a knight errant and goes adventuring around the land with his manservant Sancho Panza as his squire. He fights windmills he believes to be giants and goes on all sorts of entertaining adventures--and he meets some fascinating characters along the way. That's where the narrative diverts into little vignettes."
