Finally, Potash had left. Ilias sighed, and brought the stuff back out, which he had hastily stuffed under his sink in the cabinet. Mari placed the coin on the table.
"So, where were we?" she asked.
"Memorizing the entire building's layout." He spread out a map.
"Right. I've got the first floor down. The upper floors are mainly offices." Mari hummed. "There may be secret passages as well. I saw a promising hole in the ceiling in a hallway corner by the break room."
"Bathrooms are a good place to hide."
"Indeed." Mari studied the map. "Also a good place to create a diversion."
"Yes."
Mari committed the map to memory. "You done, Ilias? We'll have to update it if we find anything else, of course, but..."
"I was done 15 seconds ago."
She rolled her eyes. "Okay, okay. What's next?"
"Memorizing people's schedules will take a bit of time. I can't be everywhere at once to watch."
"I've heard that Mid is on a mission in the physical plane, which will likely take a few months in the astral plane since time works differently here. So it's mainly Potash and the Ikrrr we need to worry about, as well as security guard rotations."
"Just Mid being gone does help. So far the best range of time would be on a darcday in the morning."
Mari nodded. "I know Potash tends to spend her time in the office or the training center, but the times can be unpredictable."
"Most of the time she schedules to be in the training room in the afternoon."
"Right. Except for those occasional bouts of extreme rage."
"Mostly cause by a guy who isn't here at the moment."
"Perfect." Mari thought for a moment. "Have you succeeded in scheduling lunch with the Ikrrr yet?"
"The earliest he can fit me in is in a month. It'll be a good amount of time to plan."
"Alright. Now, security guards. When the director was shot, it took them around three minutes to reach the scene of the crime."
"Considering we do not have a loud gun, we'll probably have longer."
"We could go undetected completely if I managed to slip a poison into his drink. However, I suspect the higher-ups in this place are more on guard after the director's death."
"in a months time they'll chill out. Lazy bastards."
Mari considered it. "Fair enough. We'll just hope this Ikrrr isn't paranoid. Or, rather, investigate him until we determine if he is."
"He's more sophisticated and crazy than Mid from what I've heard."
"Which is frustratingly vague. 'Crazy' implies erratic, though, which isn't great."
"Nope, and Mid was already erratic. Also I'll need my mask back for this."
"I'm sure you can manage to retrieve it before the month is up." Mari tapped a finger on her chin. "Do we want to be so recognizable, though? The agency is already very anti-Skater and now, from what I'm hearing, rather anti-Veilnom due to suspicions from the chemicals. I've tried to keep things quiet, but the others gossip."
He clenched his jaw. "True. I am rather attached to my mask, but I'll try to conjure up a new one if I must."
"...On second thought, it'll be fine if we leave immediately. I'm not entirely sure why I've been sticking around in the astral plane so long. But I think after the job and collecting the payment, there'll be nothing left here. Except the lab, but, well... I doubt they'd let an assassin use it." That was something she'd regret. But 50,000 diamonds was a lot of money, maybe enough to let her buy her own equipment.
"We won't be able to leave the astral realm yet. That would raise suspicion."
"Ah. That's right. We'd need to keep working for a while as well, then find some other excuse to leave. Possibly a family emergency?"
"That should do the trick. Well- if it's part of my family Sammy might want to come along." He sounded regretful when speaking his brother's name.
"...He'll never know, will he. About you." It was a statement of fact rather than a question. Ilias just clenched his jaw, any emotion about his brother withdrew from his face. Mari nodded slowly. "I think that's enough planning for today. I'll ask the other scientists about the Ikrrr."
"Yeah. Don't draw suspicion."
"Of course not." She scoffed. "See you, Eel."
"Later, Mare." He replied, looking over the papers over his table.
She rolled her eyes and left.
