Pacing the Story

Like most people, I tend to have a little trouble with pacing in the context of a story—whether it's a short story or a full-on novel. While I'm an avid reader, sometimes it's hard to translate what I know from reading into what I can use in writing. I came up with a Basic Novel Pacing Guide that's kind of a conglomerate of all the pacing tips I've seen across the interwebs, but it's still lacking... something.

I'm not really someone who knows much about pacing a novel, as I struggle with it myself. But here's a peice of advice that I heard from a professinal writer.
Begin and end your chapter on oppisite emotions, for example, start it happy and end it angry or sad, or start it fearful, and end it with the charecters realieved. And always keep readers asking questions.
