So, I just joined this site a few minutes ago. And this seemed the most logical place to go, so, hey there!

I can't remember a point in time when I didn't love writing, though I never really did so (outside of school, that is) until I was ten or eleven. And now I can barely go a few days without writing, well, something. I feel all lazy. Anyways, this is the first teen writing-centric site I've ever found so I joined the moment I found a registration button.

So, yeah. I’d love to meet some new people, and that’s about it for my little introduction type thing, because I have no idea what else to write! :]

Hi carbonated! I'm Vyper, or whatever you want to call me. Before you go posting your work, we have a few rules you have to follow. These two are the most famous ones:

1. Keep the 2:1 review rule. That means that for every piece of work that you post, you need to review two other works first. This will make everyone more inclined to review your work, and it makes sure that everyone gets a review.

2. No chatspeak. That means use proper grammar, spelling, and capitalization at all times. You can get away with a few abbreviations but don't go overboard with them. Most of us are grammar Nazis here, and some of us might try to bite your head off. Just kidding.

So, great to meet you and welcome to YWS! Time for the first questions:

Who are your favorite authors and what are your favorite books? What do you like to write and in which genre? What are your otehr hobbies? Interests in movies and music? What about goals for the future?

Well, that's it for now. Feel free to PM me for anything that you need. I'll see ya around sometime. See ya!
There once was a cat.
He wasn’t particularly fat.
Fuzzy was his favorite mat.
And really, that was that.

Oh, but did you really think so?
Keep reading, it’s just the start of the show!
And as for how far this tale will go…
Well, even the cat doesn’t know.

Hey carbonated!

I love your username by the way. I love carbonated beverages. :] It's a really good name and it's really original. On YWS, it really helps to have a name that you like. To be honest, I wish I had taken more time to think of mine. . .oh well!

Anywho, welcome to YWS. Watervyper told you all the basics, so I thought I might jump in and tell you a little more about the site in general and the secrets that lurk in every corner (metaphorically of course.)

The 2:1 is really essential here at YWS, but there is one rule I find even more important. I'm convinced that it's crucial for life herea at YWS: have fun, make friends, and write!

Having fun on YWS isn't hard to do. Everyone here is posting new and amazing stuff every other second. You're rarely left with nothing to read. Also, it's fun looking through the genres and reading some new material that you aren't used to. You know, to widen your horizons.

The friends part, well, that's basically a give in. YWS is like one big, happy, somewhat disfunctional family. Though we live all around the world, we help each other and are there for one another. Making friends here is so painless, see you've made one already! Everyone is connected through the love of writing. This bond makes us naturally friendly.

And lastly, the reason YWS exists: writing. Posting your first piece on YWS is quite an experience. People will flock to your written work and given a review. These reviewers spend a ridculous amount of time trying to help you. It's so nice! When you start reviewing works, you'll see how much effort it takes. But let me tell you: It's work it.

Again, welcome to YWS.

PM (private message) me anytime. I'm always willing to help a fellow writer in need!

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

Apparently you're more logical than I am. I never found this section when I first joined. Kudos for you. :P

I see the rules are covered, so let me just point out a few awesome things for you to check out! There's the usergroups (click the 'Groups' tab, top of the page); I have to give a little plug for a new poetry usergroup, Poetry Inspiration. If you like poetry, please join! It's great, with contests every week to keep us writing, and other good stuff coming up too.
Speaking of contests, we have a section for that, under the Community tab, a few places below the Welcome area.
There is of course our literary section where we have a place for just about every style imaginable; review, leave a piece to be reviewed, it's awesome.
The Lounge (a little further down, Community forum) is just for general chatting; post whatever you feel like, as long as it's fascinating and brain-stimulating-- kidding.
There's a subforum for the Loung called "Will review for food." That's where people make a thread for people to request reviews from them. Go ahead and solicit a few reviews for your first piece (after doing two reviews, of course), and go ahead and start one of your own if you like.

There are our fascinating user blogs (once again, make one for yourself feel free).
We have a Writing Tips section, and our Resources section (tap at the top of the page) with all kinds of member-written articles about writing; extremely helpful.
In the Writer's Corner you can ask for advice, whine and complain about how your characters are misbehaving, find creative solutions to writer's block, or all of the above. Everyone is very eager to be service.

So take a look around at all the goodies we've got, and have fun!

If you want a review, or if you're confused about anything, send me a PM!

Hellooo, carbonated! Me name's Lily. Welcome to the wacky family!
(shakes hands and ponders what to say next)
Since they haven't told you about the coloured names, I will!
By this time, you might've noticed that some people have coloured names and some... don't. I'll explain the significance of the colours. They indicate posts.
Red: Administrators
Dark green: Moderators
Light green: Junior Mods
Purple: Instructors
Blue: Greeters
Oh, and orange!
Orange: Distinguished member

You can ask them blueys to help you for anything, but most people will help you whether they're Greeters or not. Like me.

So what genre do you write? As I critique anything prose, I'm (unlike Adna) hoping it's not poetry. I usually hang out at the Other Fiction section and rarely venture to the others. Note my review count. But you could always go for more senior advice, like the one that Adna mentioned (The "Will Review For Food" forum).

So if you need anything, PM me, kay? I'll answer any question you throw at me!

Cheerio!
Lily.
Got YWS?

Hiya and welcome!

Well, a little thing that was left out is a little mention on rated works. Rated works show up on the front page of YWS unless they are rated R. By your work being on the front page more people see it, and you just might get more comments. ^_^ Rated R works have the f-word and/or graphic scenes.

Viper has covered the questions. I'd love to see some answers. ^_^

If you need anything, feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the welcomes everybody! :]

Let me see…my favorite authors would have to be Ayn Rand and Ray Bradbury. And my favorite books are A Clockwork Orange, Anthem, Gone With the Wind, and Ender’s Game/Shadow.

I usually write stories or prose. (Poetry hates me, and I hate poetry. It’s a lovely relationship. I don’t mind reading it, though, I just don’t like to write it.) And my favorite genre is science fiction. I usually add in some fantasy elements when writing because I’m far too lazy to research past Wikipedia. I like reading alternate history and historical fiction as well, but I’m way too detail obsessed to be able to write it well.

Other than writing, my life is spent inside my school’s music and drama rooms, as I am a huge band/choir/drama geek. Oh, and I’m a huge, huge fan of musical theatre. So most of my movie/music collection is musicals. My favorite bands are Stars, The New Pornographers, and Metric, though.

And I want to be a lawyer when I’m older. And, you know, a famous published author on the side. ;)

Your are a fan of musical theatre? Have you seen Les Miserables? That was a great musical.

Hello, I am Incognito! I shall not be able to help you very much any more today because it seems that everyone always beats me here. But anyways! I shall talk to you and keep you occupied for a couple minutes.

I am also into Metric. I love that band.

I like reading alternate history and historical fiction as well, but I’m way too detail obsessed to be able to write it well.

The only thing I have to say to that is, a lot of times, writing could always be better with a little more detail added. If you love such detail, then I think you probably would be amazing at writing it. You just have to learn the facts which is an incredibly dull and boring thing to do. And that is why I do not write Historical Fiction other than random war stories. I know too many facts on those.

Well, because they asked you of the usual questions, let me ask you the unusual ones. And so my interrogation begins!
1) Have you ever dug a hole and buried a random stick and filled the hole again?
2) Did you ever think you ever had a horrible deadly disease that was incurable?
3) If you had to live in a bubble for the rest of your life, because that would be horribly boring, how would you keep yourself occupied?
4) If you woke up in a hospital bed, your head bandaged and stapled to the wall behind you and your hands restrained, what would the first words be that would come out of your mouth?
5) Personally, what do you think would be the most awesome hybrid of mixed animal breeds you could possibly think of? Be creative.

Well, it was nice scaring you and trying to welcome you as much as possible in an odd kind of way. Hope to see you around and if you need any help you can PM me or if you are need of friendship, I am open! For I do like friends. --smiles wickedly and pulls out a knife.-- Just Kidding!

I love musical theater! Cats is my all-time favourite, but Wicked is a very close second. I also like watch story ballets, but I can find them a little long.

Detail obsessed in a historical fiction is good! It's those little words and period details that really make a story come alive. ^_^ I would try some historical stuff just to see how it works out. But, that's just my opinion.
