Hello, YWS...

...I'm Biplane, and I just joined. I joined because I love to read and write, and I finally found a good forum that looks like it will fit me. So... About me as a writer. To start things off, poetry... I can't stand (no offense), even though it's a big part of writing. But, I enjoy mainly most types of fiction, and that is the only type I will write, unless I've gone mad, or something. Also, I very much enjoy the genre of horror. I Don't know why, but I love it. I'm almost addicted. In second grade, I read a book from my library... That was in the Young Adult Horror section. :? . I might be mentally troubled... Just kidding. My favorite author is Stephen King, mainly because he writes horror.

I have many flaws as a writer, but I hope to improve from building of criticism I get. So please, criticize me all you want, I don't care, it helps me out. :)

My biggest problem as a writer... The writing. I know, it sounds very stupid. The problem is though, I just can't get out what I'm thinking! I always have the story in my head, but I can't write it out! I feel stupid. I feel like I'm going nuts, or if I already am. Anyways, if you have any tips on this problem, you are very welcome to give me some tips on how to get around this problem.

No for about me, as myself. I enjoy playing sports, listening to music, drawing, fiddling around with LEGOs, and relaxing (those are just some... I could probably go on for a bit longer). I am in middle school, and my favorite subjects are Math, Science, French, and Band. Surprisingly, I hate Language Arts, or english... Even though I love French, and writing. Also, I love planes, and that is where I got my screen name from. When I'm older, I am hoping to be an Aeronautical Engineer.

Can't think of anything else to say.

Feel free to ask any other questions!

Hello there, new person! :D

My name is Micki, as you can see from my username, and I've been here for two months and nine days! I LOVE this website and I'm sure you will too. It's full of wonderful people who are very helpful and mostly everyone here is very supportive and friendly. If you're looking for critiques, you've definitely come to the right place. YWSers are very helpful when it comes to reviews and critiques. AND you've come during the right month! This month we're holding a contest. The site has split into four teams and we're currently in the middle of trying to see which team can get the most points (which comes with reviewing, SO that means you'll probably get a fair amount of reviews this month! ;P)

Don't worry! Everyone has flaws as a writer. Even professionals! (That's what editors are for ;P) Pahaha in fact, I just found out that I'm a walking cliche today, but hey! I'll improve because of that being pointed out..... I didn't even realize that I rhymed three times in a row in that last sentence -.-

You're good at sports? The only sport I'm good at is tennis. Any other sport and I'm basically physically retarded XP OH MY GOD I LOVE LEGOS!!! XD Ahh I'm so weird ;P I also enjoy drawing as well as band! Although I only know how to play the flute.... Ugh I think art and English are the only subjects I enjoy in school. I'm good at math but when it gets to the point where you finish a test within ten minutes while everyone else is only on the third page, it's way too boring. Pahaha

Well, if you have any questions regarding the site or just feel bored, PM me or write on my wall! :D
(Reviews are appreciated as well! ;D)

Hey,

Welcome to YWS! It's great that you love reading and writing because those traits are appreciated on a writing website! Fiction writing, short stories and novels, are popular on YWS and while we don't have many horror writers, you'll be a great addition! You're probably not mentally troubled and if you are, it's cool because most of us YWSers are. :D

All writers have flaws but in reviews, we try to help smooth them out. I like that you're open-minded towards criticism because *some* people aren't and it's impossible to get better if you can't fix what's wrong. :) I understand what you mean with your biggest problem, that's my biggest problem too. I'll have like a movie sequence in my head of the scene I want to write, but I can't fine the right words to do it. You're not stupid! Writing is hard for everyone.

Ooh, tu parle francais? J'ai eu classe de francais pendant trois ans. J'ai grandi avec le francais dans la maison parce que ma mere est Marocaine. Que tu parles bien? :)

Planes sound cool :)

QUESTION TIME:

1. Do you like shish kabob?

2. Is it raining where you are currently?

3. What's your favorite book by Stephen King?

4. When's the last time you've been on an airplane?

5. Where were you going?

6. Do you own a pair of Converse?

7. What instrument do you play?

8. What grade in middle school are you in?

9. What's your opinion on the great Dr. Pepper vs. Cherry Coke debate?

10. When did you start writing?

PM me if you ever need help or want a review or even want to talk. :D

~Jas

P.S. Have you ever seen an Alaskan quarter?
I am nothing
but a mouthful of 'sorry's, half-hearted
apologies that roll of my tongue, smoothquick, like 'r's
or maybe like pocket candy
that's just a bit too sweet.

Dude! I think I know a poem you will like. It's called, "The Iliad." It's by Homer, and it's completely amazing. It's really, really gory though, so beware! But, there's tons of warfare and people getting stabbed and stuff. I mean, it's a huge epic story in poem form. It's amazing. Like I said, you'll love it. But yeah, I can understand why you don't like poetry, lol. Still! Homer is awesome.

Anyway! I have the same sort of problem, regarding the whole "It's not coming out the way I want it to!" thing when writing. My best advice is to let yourself suck at first. By suck, I mean it's all right if your writing starts stinking like a fat smoker at the slot machines in Las Vegas. The only way that you're ever going to not suck is if you let yourself suck at first. It's a bit painful at first, but well worth it! Plus, practice makes perfect, right? :D

And EEK. A science nerd! I kind of love you for this, lol. I am about to get my degree in biochemical engineering, so I really liked science and math as well. It's an excellent field to go into, if you want. :) Also... you play an instrument? What do you play? I play clarinet!

See you around YWS! If you need any help, just bug me. :)

Hey hey Biplane!

I couldn't stand poetry until a couple of year sback when I started to read Frost and I sort of like them now. Anyway, welcome to YWS!

I know! I mean things play out well in my head and then when it comes to the exact words, I fumble. Gah. But it's fun anyway, right?

Yay for science nerds! I'm Biotech engineering student! I used to love planes. No, i mean, I still do, but when I was smaller, our house was just next to a runway and I used to want to be a pilot. :P

I'm sure tyou'll fit in just fine here.
Have fun exploring!

See ya around.

I'm not sure why I chose to play the trumpet. It just seemed more interesting to me than all the other instruments. Though, I wouldn't have minded to try out the saxophone instead.

Hello, Plane! Welcome to YWS!
First of all, you'll most certainly have fun here. And there is nothing wrong in disliking poetry. Even I don't like poetry all that much- I barely read it and I never write it. But that's cool, because every one of us has his own interests.

As to the problem you're having, that's much simpler than you could ever imagine. I used to have the same problem and it was maddening. It made me feel desperate and sometimes even useless because I did like to write. Imagine that you can't do what you like most! But don't worry, because it's only a matter of time and work.

There are many ways that should be done altogether to be able to overcome such a problem. First, you need to practice a lot. By that, I seriously mean that you write whenever you could. It doesn't matter what you write: Horror, fantasy or even simple insights. Just get that pen running and you'll improve on your own. Try to get your writings posted here and you'll probably get some great reviews to help you become a better writer.

Never ever dislike a harsh review. A harsh review could help you much more than the review that tells you you did a GREAT job. Don't be upset with the one criticizing your work, because it's only good for you. Trust me, as time passes you'll definitely be better. I've been there!
Also, read! Read a lot, like every time you have time to hold a book. Before you go to bed, when you wake up, while you eat and even on the bus. It's another world and it will subconsciously polish your writing style as you go on.

Seriously, trust me. You will find the proper words one day and you just need to work hard for it.
Also, feel free to ask for reviews and don't forget to review other people. That could help you just as much as writing would. Make friends here and ask them to take a look at your work.

If you could, get some novel writing books and understand the basics of writing. But I don't think you NEED that, because practicing is your key for a better writing style.
Good luck.
I'm back to my YWS after months of disappearance, hoping that I'd gain the immunity of books and quills against the harmful realism of our world.

In case this made no sense, I'm just saying that I'm happy I'm back!
