Caligula's Launderette says...

Hey y'all. This is the last of the Retrospect discs. Isn't that amazing? I think so. These are a fanmix for Sam's Hourglass. You can either downloading the entire disc in a zip or the songs individually. If you have any problems, shout out to me and I'll see if I can fix them.

Baiz,
Cal.

Oh, and go read Hourglass.

NOTE: The comments inside the brackets are Sam's, the one's that aren't are mine.

Hugs,
Cal.

Part I and II and III are here and here and here.

[FULL ZIP]

1. I Fought the Angels – the Delgados [box.net link]
I fought the angels here today;
Hope my defeat will end this play.
I only have myself to blame.

2. The Great Escape – We Are Scientists [box.net link]
[They’re breaking both my hands and telling me to take it like a man, take it like a man- well, f*ck that. I don’t understand].

[For the Hourglass guys, mainly. And perhaps Lieutenant- she is pretty butch. Literally speaking: she actually does break someone’s hand, but that’s an aside. Carry on.]

3. Deus Ibi Est – Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan [box.net link]
Impending storm rise up, rise up!
Oh demons I shall shame you!
Look down the barrel of my gun and one by one I'll name you.
Day on day my brothers leave, go marching off to war.
Yet we never understand what we're fighting for.

4. Grass – Page France [box.net link]
You were lying like a soldier
in the grass,
in the grass,
like the war was over.

5. Mr. Brown – Get Back Loretta [box.net link]
We march through the streets with our two part harmonies
Holding on to the reel (real) with a whisper,
And we knock down the doors
Find the truth that we fought for…

6. Enough to Go By – Vienna Teng [box.net link]
I'm at your back door
with the earth of a hundred nations in my skin
you won't recognize me
for the light in my eyes is strange…

7. Après Moi – Regina Spektor [box.net link]
Fevrale dostat chernil i plakat,
Pisat O Fevrale navsnryd,
Poka grohochushaya slyakot
Vesnoyu charnoyu gorit.

English
February. Get ink, shed tears.
Write of it, sob your heart out, sing,
While torrential slush that roars
Burns in the blackness of the spring.

That Russian verse is actually from a poem by Boris Pasternak, the guy who wrote Doctor Zhivago; the English translation is by Alex Miller.

[I must go on standing- you can’t break that which isn’t yours.

Another theme thing. And it’s an angry song, which I like- the feeling of it embodies a lot of Hourglass scenes.

…sounding angsty? Yes, perhaps.]

8. Bees – Laura Cantrell [box.net link]
Spent an hour in the waiting room of our old headquarters
None brought my orders I rode on alone
With my portrait missing from their hall of honor
No frame to claim me in silver black and gold.

Another song for Louie, methinks. Or Jeremy.

9. Come Around – Rhett Miller [box.net link]
I’m going to be lonely for the rest of my life.
Unless you come around
So come around.

10. Out On My Feet – Pilate [box.net link]
Come in from the cold,
And wipe off the rain that bleeds into your bones…

11. We Exchanged Words – Azure Ray [box.net link]
We exchanged words
Through smoke-filled mouths
And then we found our bodies
Speaking loud.

[Luke and Adelais’ conversations, whilst high. Lots of unpleasant things unravel, conversation-wise.]

12. Hummingbird Song – Tom McRae [box.net link]
Now we're coming down
Now we're coming down
We're coming down

[Lieutenant.]

This used to be Soldier Song by Tom McRae, but I couldn’t find it to download or buy, and my copy of the EP it is on is so scratched it won’t read, so I picked another song by the same artist; one that has a similar message.

13. The Woods – Stars [box.net link]
That day we walked a little deeper
Breathless and too alive to sleep
You always said I was a dreamer
But now I know who's dreaming deep.

14. The Dress Look Nice on You – Sufjan Stevens [box.net link]
I can see a lot of life in you
I can see a lot of bright in you
And I think the dress looks nice on you
I can see a lot of life in you.

Maybe it’s just that I love Louie and Jeremy so much, but I’d imagine these are Jeremy’s thoughts the first time he sees Louie in a dress.

15. A Mind of Her Own – Pedro the Lion [box.net link]
Dear, unlock the door you’re acting like a child
when you say it yourself
we are at war.
How dare you turn on me now
right when I need you most?

16. Time Has Told Me – Nick Drake [box.net link]
Time has told me
You're a rare, rare find
A troubled cure
For a troubled mind.

[Smart. Or alternatively, Upton and Kostya- it’s hard to tell.]

17. Whistle for The Choir – The Fratellis [box.net link]
Because I may be a beggar and you maybe the queen
I know I maybe on a downer I’m still ready to dream.

For Matthias and his Princess.

18. Weathervane – Kris Delmhorst [box.net link]
no more weathervane, i’m gonna be the wind.
no more spin around, spin around, spin around but always face away
no more weathervane. i’m gonna be the wind.

19. Bonnie's Song – Sarah Slean [box.net]
Charting a map of land mines
Asleep in the settling dust
How come we never remember
How many times you picked yourself up?

20. Live Through This – Rubyhorse [box.net]
You've gotta hang on,
you've gotta hang on, please…
You will live
you will live through this…

21. Each Coming Night – Iron & Wine [box.net link]
Your face has faded but lingers on
because light strikes a deal with each coming night.

22. Shine On – Jet [box.net link]
I will shine on, for everyone.

Oh my fluffy lord, I actually finished it.

Enjoy!
Cal.
Fraser: Stop stealing the blanket.
[Diefenbaker whines]
Fraser: You're an Arctic Wolf, for God's sake.
(Due South)

Hatter: Do I need a reason to help a pretty girl in a very wet dress? (Alice)

Got YWS?
