Squills - Poll & Questions

Hey guys!

As you may or may not know, @AlfredSymon has become a retired due to Internet/RL stuff, so he hasn't much time to get on YWS at the moment. Because of that, he left me in charge of Squills, and I've noticed a lot of things over the week.

Does anyone ever read Squills? We never receive any feedback or anything that tells us that we do, indeed, have some readers, and it has brought myself, @aquestioning, and @ShadowVyper to take Squills and revamp it. We are planning an entire makeover, so expect news on that soon, but first, we really would like to know your guys' opinions:

I used to read Squills every day up until I took a break from the site. At that point most of the content was fresh everyday. When I came back it seemed like the same material had been posted over and over again every day, so I didn't know when to bother going in to read a thread.

I love interviews with our members. I love coverage of site events, but think they need to hold more than exactly the same text as is on those threads around the site. In short I want to read something new when I pop into Squills. It doesn't invite discussion because.the threads seemed closed to only official news. Did you want discussion on the news threads?

I really want to see material related to th forums. It's kind of a problem because Writing Gooder takes care of writing advice and stuff off site, so Squills has to specialize to be more compelling. I think interviews is the way to get original information and gain readers back.

but only because Squills isn't advertised nearly as much as it should be and I'm too lazy to go looking through the forums for it.

I voted "What's Squills?" Because, up until this point, it has simply seemed to not exist. I saw its name once, but still have little idea what it is or is supposed to be.

I would love to see a lively, rejuvenated newsletter to match the new growth the site has seen lately. That would be spectacular. If Squills were on the front page or otherwise easy to get to, it would feel like a really integrated part of the site. It could take on its own persona; seem objective. It could bring attention to unappreciated members (of which there seem to be several).

Since we are, after all, a literary site, it could even be (prepare for it) well written! I hate seeing poorly worded newsletters and announcements. There's no flair. Squills could be the trumpet vanguard to the website's updates and contests and what-have-you!

If you get me all excited like this, then don't revive Squills so I can appreciate what apparently @Hannah once had the benefit of enjoying, I will be sincerely disappointed. Which is anticlimactic, but I'm not Liam Neeson, so it will have to do.

I was involved in Squills until real life caught up with me. I honestly think that a weekly newsletter would do much better, you could advertise it more and there'd be more content and more time In which to write better content!
