After Armagedon: The End of the World was caused by a Tomato

Plot: Good morning to all you survivors. This is your host on the UMR (Underground Mutant Radio), who as always will remain anonymous. It's 10 in the morning the sun is shining here in New York, there's not a cloud in sight. Today is the fortieth anniversery of Armagedon. For those of you who live in a hole and aren't up to date on your history that's the end of the world as we knew it. The quick explanation goes like this. The majority of the worlds population was killed by a military-generated-virus that escaped and spontaneously fastened to a weak spot in a biogenetically engineered tomato. It was shipped out before anyone knew -the virus crossing oceans with the ease of an international traveler- and the Turn began.

It was with the survivors that things got complicated. While most of the population was either fully immune or fully succeptable to the virus, a full quarter of the surviving population had partial immunity. While they survived the infection it changed them, altering there DNA and twisting them on the genetic level. Some became monstrous, other's were cursed with bodies that could no longer survive without outside intervention, and a small handful were gifted with miraculous powers. They became the Altered.

Of course the norms don't call us that. They call us Mutants, or Mutes for short. We're third class citizens, at best. Now here's a tip for all you Altered out there. Word from on high is that the government is going to be conducting a series of round-ups this week. Watch your back if you don't want to get caught and sent to the Pens. A few points to clear up. The Pens are basically communes we're the altered are forced to live under constant guard. They also have to co-operate with any experiments the scientists come up with or face a firing squad. No court of law to turn to, nothing like that. After all, they're not human anymore. And the scientists can be quite sadistic.

All of the characters are based out of New York and they should probably all have hidey-holes.

After the virus ran its course society basically came to a screeching halt. Most cities are deserted wastelands. The U.S. is now a third world country. So large portions of the city are still abandoned.

Name- Jaxon (Jax for short) Braihde
Age- 19
Gender- Male
Type- Mute, definetely Mute

Personality- Jax is one cool customer. Like most Altered his emotions are a little on the strong side but he's learned how to keep them firmly under wraps. He often has ulterior motives for the things he does, not to mention his somewhat skewed moral compass.

A boundless curiosity combined with a reckless disdain for danger has led Jax into one scrape after the next. Jax is arrogant and charming when he wants to be, but he has something of a superiority complex. He's also something of a hedonist, enjoying the finer things in life when he can get them. He loathes the scientist who 'study' the Altered and would love nothing better then to shove the lot of them in a cell to be poked and prodded. More will be revealed with time.

History- Jax is a Second Gen, or 2nd generation Altered. His mother is the leading expert in the study of the Altered, and a Norm. She is obsessive, nearly fanatic, about her research. Even going so far as to concieve Jax with a Mute prisoner just to see what the result would be. Although Jax was raised in a home environment, he spent the majority of his childhood under the microscope. Constantly being observed by his mother and her cronies.

When he was fourteen Jax could no longer conceal his powers which were growing much stronger with the onset of puberty. When his mother realized just what he was capable of she planned to send him to one of the Military Pens, where he could be 'trained properly'. Jax wasn't going to go along quietly so he ran away and has been living on the streets ever since. He lives in the penthouse of an abondoned high-rise apartment. And has spent the last few years coming to grips with his abilities. Now that he can finally control them properly he's ready to go on the offensive.

Capabilities- Jax is quite skilled at B&E, he uses it 'supplement' his income. He inherited his mother's genius level intellect and was one of the best hackers in the country. But it's been a few years since he had solid access to a decent computer so he's pretty rusty now. Although he did manage to take copies of his mother's research with him when he ran away. As for fighting, he was never formally trained. Jax is a brawler.

Powers- Atmokinesis, more commonly known as Weather Manipulation, is the ability to control and manipulate meteorological conditions. The power of Weather Manipulation is capable of manipulating various elements within the weather system. Jax can create strong and powerful gusts of winds, whirlwinds and tornadoes. He can create lightning, thunder, rain, snow etc. He can also create warm or cold fronts by manipulating thermal patterns.
The ability is strongly tied to his emotions and raged out of controle when he was a teenager. Now his control is fine tuned but it takes immense concentration and Jax becomes exhausted or temporarily burns out if he uses them too much.

Other- Up for love, if you can find a girl to put up with his mood swings.

Age- 18

Appearance- Nadia has stick straight blonde hair that falls to her waist that is dipped dyed black at the ends. She keeps it tied back with her mothers lucky Bandanna that is a soft blue from being used so much. She has honey colored eyes with tiny green flecks inside of them. She has high cheek bones and a small button nose. She is a height of 5'4 and a skinny toned body.

Personality- She is pretty unpredictable. One second she could be super happy and then the next she will be ready to kill someone. Most of the time she is pretty laid back though, unless someone try's to hurt someone she cares for. Then your in trouble.

History- Nadia grew up with her 4 older brothers having her father left after her mother became pregnant with her and then her mother died in child birth. She and her brothers where usually on the run going from place to place. When Nadia was 7 her eldest brother died from a shooting. Her other brothers had already gotten their powers but she was to young to have gotten them so she seemed to always drag them down. At age 13 her power finally started to show up. But that's when a group of scientists found them and took them into a lab for studying. Nadia managed to escape but her brothers never made it out. She found a abandon house and has been living in it trying to control her powers.

Capabilities- Nadia is a fighter. Living in ally ways most of her life she had been in a fair share of fights and always won no matter what. Her brothers had raised her to be a fighter knowing if anything ever happened to them that she would be OK.

Powers- Nadia is able to clone anyone she desires. Vary's from, the President to a Hobo you might have seen last night.

Other- Up for love but only if you can find someone to put up with her.

Name: Elizabeth Ryder (tolerates being called Liz)

Age: 27

Gender: female

Type: Norm

Appearance: She has long dark ginger hair that is normally tied up in a messy bun and a smattering of freckles across her nose. Her skin is very pale and her eyes never changed from the clear blue that they were at birth. She has rimless glasses that are always sliding down her nose. She’s quite small at 1m50 and slender. As she’s a scientist, she always wears a pristine white lab coat with a black tank top and white work trousers underneath.

Personality: Elizabeth is very lively and on top of that, a caffeine addict. She’s the type of person who talks really fast (when she talks) and always needs to be moving. She has a boundless curiosity and will easily stay up all night conducting experiments on the mutes and studying the results. She has been known to send people out in the middle of the night to get a mute. She has to be reminded to eat sometimes otherwise she won’t. She’s a pretty cheerful person, but don’t get in her way or she’ll take you apart piece by piece. She’s quite introverted, preferring to stay in her lab by herself then be part of a research team. She doesn’t consider the way she treats the mutes cruel, but she’ll do anything to get results. She likes destroying relationships between people (don’t ask why).

History: Both of Elizabeth’s parents are scientists and she was brought up surrounded by research and scientists. She quickly found an interest in what her parents were doing and found that she had a natural talent for research. In the labs, there was no one of her age, so she became a very mature child. She started properly working in the labs at 15 and quickly became a solo researcher because she made the research groups that she was in … self destruct. When she was 17 her parents divorced but it didn’t really affect her because she had never been very close to her parents. They had always been too busy working to pay any attention to her and she resented them slightly for it. When she was 20, she went out with another researcher, but he cheated on her. She completely destroyed his career and any chances he could ever have with women, then immersed herself in work. She now prefers to stay away from people in general.

Capabilities: Elizabeth is good at research and extracting information on mutes, destroying relationships, exploiting people and using computers (it was one of her hobbies when she was little and she used her skills to hack into the system and destroy the man who cheated on her.

Other: I’m not against her being up for love, but she rejects most men.

Name: Ava Hartman (pronounced A-va; called Avie or AV by her few friends.

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Type: Mute

Appearance: Ava has long, dark, curly black hair and has a somewhat dark complexion. She is of Middle Eastern decent. She has a heart shaped face and dark hazel, almond-shaped eyes. She is 5'6" and is very curvy but not big either, with an hourglass figure. She always wears her mother's gold locket with a picture of her mother and father in it. She usually wears whatever fits and what she can find in the few mutant-friendly shops- she figures that fashion is the last thing she needs to be worrying about.

Personality: Ava is a loner. Ever since her parents were taken to the Pens, she has been alone, and she trusts very few people. She is secretive and suspicious of everyone. Under all of the walls she has built so that she will not care for and lose people she loves again, she is compassionate and caring for those who deserve it. She has a good sense of humor and is incredibly intelligent. She is a fierce fighter when she needs to be but prefers to blend in with the crowd and avoid confrontation. She can seem fearless at times- the few times she has gotten into a confrontation she has stood her ground and was snarky sarcastic and sardonic to the norms that confronted her- but the fear of being taken keeps her up at night and wakes her screaming.

History: Ava is a second-generation mute. She had one brother, Avi, her twin, and her parents were Kadisha and Jeramy Hartman. She grew up in a fairly rough neighborhood, but her parents and brother shielded her from most of the violence in the neighborhood. Her family was very loving and although her parents could not find work because they were mutes, they tried to make the best life they could for their children.
But at the age of fourteen, their lives fell apart when her family was taken to the Pens. Her parents and brother were being taken away as she ran downstairs, and her parents told her to get out while she still could. Seeing that she could not help her family, she ran. She has been living on her own ever since. She has felt guilty about it ever since, and even considered suicide the next year.
In the last two years, she has learned to survive on the streets and fend for herself. She learned to steal, to pickpocket, and to figure out what shops were mutant-friendly. She takes odd jobs cleaning houses and mowing lawns and shoveling snow to pay for the rent for her small, dilapidated apartment.

Capabilities: Ava can fight if she needs to and is quite good- her parents trained her in martial arts- and can steal and pickpocket with ease. She can disappear in a crowd and in the shadows.

Powers: Ava can run. She can run at super speed and is silent when doing so. She can also freeze time for only a few seconds to steal food or make a quick getaway.

Other: Ava is up for love but he would have to be patient and would have to get her to trust him- not an easy task.

Name- Kai (Pronounced: Kay) Aarons

Age- 17

Gender- Female

Type- Totally Mute

Appearance- It's really hard to describe Kai's physical appearance when it's constantly changing. She is about 5 foot 7 and fairly thin, when you're living on the streets its hard not to be thin. Her hair and eyes are both rainbow, yes rainbow, all the time.

Personality- Kai is kind of wild. She is ruled by her emotions and therefor, pretty impulsive. If a mood strikes her, she will act on it, no matter the consequences. But she's a big girl, she can take it. Despite being controlled by her emotions, she's no wimp. Actually, she's pretty fearless. Fear may be the only emotion that doesn't control Kai.

History- There's not much to Kai's history, and if asked, she doesn't have one. In reality, Kai was born to a Norm dad and Mute mom. Her dad was horrified to find out that Kai and her mom were Mutes. He killed her mother and left her out on the street. A Norm gang took her in and raised her abusively, trying to evoke her mutation. When she was twelve, she escaped them and got by on her own.

Capabilities- Kai is fast. Not supernaturally fast, just fast. She has great reflexes and can run as fast as fast Norms but no more. This is from growing up with the gang. She can also hold her own in a fight.

Powers- Kai hates her mutation and thinks it useless. Basically her mutation is color She changes color. No, not like a camouflage type of thing but her skin changes color with the change of her emotions. Despite her emotions showing on her body, she doesn't just open up to anyone.

Other- I suppose she's up for love but any time before that she's tried relationships, her impulsiveness and extreme emotions got in the way.
