The Truth of Luxphalia (closed; started)

The Setting:
We are no longer in an age of technology, phones, computers, and iPods. We live in a world of magic: fairies, wizards, countesses, and mages alike know the language of spells and enchantments, potions and elixirs. Knights wear shining armor and dragons wear glittering scales, but things are not always as they seem...

The Situation:
In the farthest southern reaches of the kingdom of Luxphalia, a creeping and mysterious disease is making its slow but steady way through the villages. No one knows its origins, but the greatest mages in the land have been powerless against it. One thing they know, however, is that the plague is intertwined with a dark and powerful magic. Meantime, there have been rumors of a dragon in the North, living in the icy Favell Mountains. The rumors tell tales of steam and smoke rising from a high peak, and shadows seen flying in the clouds at dusk. The general opinion is that the two phenomena are somehow linked, but none can make sense of the matter. While the mages and king/queen are swamped with complaints and problems, normal, every-day drama takes place throughout the entire kingdom as the general mood of jitteriness accelerates.

Characters
You can take part on the story as a member of the royal family in the capital city (located in the center of Luxphalia), a farmer, merchant, crafts person, etc., or nobleman living in the surrounding countryside, or a person of magic (ex: mage, witch/wizard, fairy, etc.)

Name: Countess Wilhelmina of Favell

Age: 23

Gender: Female

Position: Nobility

Appearance: Wilhelmina is radiantly blonde, and her hair is as straight as it is possible to be. She has bright green eyes, always with a curious glint in them and a hint of mischief too. She is straight and thin, with a proud bearing and a chin that is perpetually thrust up. Her pride shows through in every pore of her body.

Personality: She is spoiled and haughty, always expecting people do her bidding as they always did when she was a child. She is clever and fair, though, and although the few Favellians that live under her rule are not falling head over heels for her, they respect her. Wilhelmina has always had a tendency for curiosity, and whatever problems may arise she is practically giddy to look into them with a detective's eye. Most of all, she is a proud Countess, and one that demands respect of everyone. For those that are close to her, she has a playful and mischievous side as well, and loves playing games, especially those of wit.

Background/History: Wilhelmina was raised by her nanny and spoiled by her father, the previous Count, who died several years back. Her mother died in childbirth, and she had no siblings, so she would often be lonely in their small castle. This was the primary reason for her proud and haughty bearing, because she knew she was the big shot in the North. Still she is lonely sometimes, but she loves traveling and has made some friends at the royal court, where she visits sometimes to help with the Council. There are not many people that live in the cold province of Favell, but the few that do have a good leader.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Some of Wilhelmina's strengths are: intelligence, in part her curiosity and love for problem-solving, fair leadership, and a loyal heart. Her weaknesses include: strong self-pride, sometimes overbearing curiosity that turns into nosiness, and the fact that she is so used to luxurious living.

Up for love?: Yes

Other: Wilhelmina will mostly be dealing with the dragon problem in this story, since the Favell Mountains are in her province.

Name: Minchid the Brown

Age: Who knows? He looks like he’s in his mid-to-late-sixties, but he’s a wizard, so, you never can really tell just by looking…

Gender: Male

Position: Technically a wizard, but more under the category of wizard-bard-nomad-person-thing

Appearance: The best word to describe him is “long”.

Long, pointed nose protruding above a long, wispy moustache and long, unkempt beard. Long, bristly eyebrows stick out under his long, bent wizard’s hat that tops his long, skinny body. Long, pointed ears emerge from his long, spikey hair, which frames his long, bony face. His long, boney right arm clenches a long, wooden magic staff in its long, floppy leather glove. A long, sagging pack hangs over his long, scrawny shoulder and contains potions, wands, food, water, and a general sense of long-ness.

Other than “long”, the word that would best describe him would be “scraggly”: scraggly beard, scraggly robe, scraggly staff, scraggly boots, scraggly belt, and scraggly bag with a scraggly strap covered in scraggly pockets of scraggly herbs and scraggly bottles.

Personality: When you first meet him, he might seem mysterious and sinister, but he’s just messing with you. Inside, he’s a joker and a prankster, constantly messing with people and performing parlour tricks.

Background/History: His background is something of a mystery. It’s well known that he’s been wandering the country for as long as anyone can remember, but nobody knows much more than that. He wanders around a lot, and thus, he has lots of friends and enemies everywhere.

Strengths: He mainly does simple things with his magic, such as putting broken dishes back together and healing cuts and bruises, but he can do much more if he wants to. Not many know this for certain, but he’s particularly good with fire-, plant-, and protection-based spells. He does carry around a selection of herbs, potions, wands, et cetera, and, of course, his staff, but what exactly they all do is only known by him.

He’s also fairly good on the harp.

Weaknesses: He often doesn’t eat enough, so he’s physically weak, and he’s restless and can’t sit still very long. Since he’s good with fire, plant, and protective spells, he’s weakened when faced with extreme cold and doesn’t do attack spells very well, but as mentioned, not many know this.

Also, any and all magic that he does taxes on his body a lot, so if he makes a country go boom, he will also go boom.

Up for love? No. At least, probably no.

For the record, I want a non-oldest sibling, so if anyone's reading this before I post the full profile and wants to join the family, my character will be 15 so if someone wants to be Crown Prince/Princess, they should be older.

Name: Princess Melina Douala (goes by "Mel" or "Meli" to friends, but her parents hate that)

Age (any age is fine): 15

Gender: Female

Position (Specify which of the characters in the character list): Princess 2

Appearance: About 5'6" and slender, with long dark brown hair (slightly wavy) and blue eyes. When forced to hang around the palace, she'll wear dresses in bold colors, but she has some servant's outfits (both male and female) that she'll wear for adventures outside the palace.

Personality: Very intelligent, curious, and utterly bored with palace life. She'd much rather learn about magic and strange lands than practice embroidery. She loves reading and exploring the lands outside her palace walls. She is very blunt and can be stubborn, making palace events difficult for her.

Background/History: Over the years, she's befriended her servants, who have helped her sneak outside for adventures around town and in nearby forests. She'd love to go farther, but that would worry her family sick and she loves them too much to do that to them. She's gotten reprimanded for her un-ladylike behavior on several occasions.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Strengths-Very smart and cares about people, from her family to her poorest subjects and servants. Also brave. Weaknesses-Impulsive, stubborn, and not always dependable.

Name: Princess Liliana (Lily) Douala

Gender: Female

Appearance: Light brown hair that falls just past her shoulder blades. She always has a smile on her face and her bright blue eyes give off a slight twinkle. She has rosy red cheeks and is very tiny for her age. She is only 4'1 and weighs 45 pounds, she is super small compared to the other kids, but Lily like it that way.

Personality: Lily is super shy at first then she will loosen up after a couple hours. She is very quiet but very giggly. She is super ticklish and super sweet, Lily loves to be outside and would do anything to play in the sun. She loves to play dolls and tag and isn't half bad at it.

Background/History: Lily grew up in the castle with her family and was raised into royalty. She isn't that old so that's all she can really share.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Lily is a great runner and is super cute so she is able to get what she wants. She is also able to get into small spaces because she is so small.

Weakness: She is very young so she can't fight or protect her self.

Name: Karia L'Delacuor

Age (any age is fine): She looks in her twenties, but she is a mage, and time is only a factor in a series of things to people like her.

Gender: Female

Position (Specify which of the characters in the character list): Mage

Appearance: She has dark brown hair, high cheekbones, and full lips. She is thin, and always wears a dark green cloak, with emeralds inbedded along the edges. She always carries many different forms of weapons.

Personality: She's a flirt, at worst. That's one of the reasons why she has soared through the ranks. She's one of those people who goes by "Flaunt what you got" personalites. She will stab you in the back if she thinks you might do the same. Other than that, she is a great person to talk to and have around, especially in bad positions.

Background/History: She was born unto a family of riches and didn't have to need anything when she was little. However, a fire spread across her land, and her family quickly left the area, somehow leaving her behind, which could quickly tramautize someone her age. So, she had to cheat, lie, and do even worse things to end up in the hands of a mage, and from there she cheated, lied, and did even worse things than before to end up where she is now. The right hand woman of the royalty family of Luxphalia themselves.

She has a reputation now, both good and bad, depending on who you ask, but everyone can agree with one thing: She is not a mage to be reckoned with. As most of her body weight being weapons hidden in every place, and an intense vocabulary of spells and magic to back it up, she can easily harm you.

Strengths/Weaknesses: she can fool even the best of men to their deaths, but sometimes her ego can get in the way of her decision making.

Up for love?: When you are a person like her, long term relationships aren't really an option after so long.

Other: A mysterious cat follows her sometimes, whom she calls "Mysterio." As the name suggests, not much is known about that cat, except that it likes to follow her.

Name: Prince Stephen Douala

Age (any age is fine): 18

Gender: Male

Position: Prince

Appearance: Stephen is very tall and muscular. He has dark brown hair (almost black) and bright blue eyes. His skin is tan and he has a firm jaw. Stephen is forced to look nice all the time. His mother is pretty easy going, but his father is strict and makes it clear that it is time to find a wife. This means that he needs to show off his handsomness all the time. (Something he does not like to do.) Stephen is really nice and kind once you get him away from is father.

Personality: Stephen is rather unintrested in things. He gets bored very quickly, so it is hard to keep his attention. This makes him seem like he has is cock and arrogant, but he is really not. When is has a passion, he has a passion. He is an open book, so you can always tell what he is feeling. He is also not affraid to tell you what he thinks.

Background/History: When he was born his father made plans for him to be the best prince the land has ever known. There was a war going on, so the king was gone for a big part of Stephen's life. Stephen and his mother became very close at this time. When his father returned, the king was not happy with the man Stephen had become. Stephen still does not know what is wrong with him, so he does not talk much to his father. Their relationship is very distant and you can tell.

Strength/Weaknesses: He is strong and that is clear. He is very good at being a leader and is very smart. He is affraid of his father. He knows he cannot be all his father wants and that scares him. He is also a horrible liar.
Up for love? Yes, he needs someone who can keep his attention.
Other: His father is really jealous of Stephan.

Name: Diana Cloven
Age: 16
Gender:Female
Position:Lady-in-waiting
Appearance: Diana is small but pretty, with dark features. She has dark brown hair and long eyelashes with dark green eyes. Short and small, only about five foot two, she is overlooked quite a bit even though she is very skilled in horse riding and swordsmanship.
Personality: Diana is very witty and sarcastic, and speaks her mind. She thinks that women are extremely overlooked and she is striving to all the things men do. This causes people to think ill of her, which she shrugs off but is secretly affected by.
Background/History: Diana's father was a lord and her mother a lady but they were both killed by the strange plague when she was fourteen. She has been a lady-in-waiting to the Princess Melina since she was thirteen. The king and queen barely notice her, and she prefers it that way.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Diana is extremely independent and thinks for herself. She is very physically skilled even though she is small and thin. She lets everyone know how she is feeling which is a strength and a weakness. Everyone will know what she cares about and what to use against her to Make her angry. She has a quick temper and she tries to control it but to no avail.
Up for love? Yes, she needs a boy who will listen to her and understands how she feels.

Name: Balik Douala

Age (any age is fine): 40

Gender: Male

Position: King

Appearance: Balik is of middling height and weight. His hair is dark brown and shaggy. He ties it back when he's not trying to be stylish which is most of the time. His eyes are a light green that can appear grey. He has absolutely no defining features. His clothing is muted, unless he's actually doing kingly duties, then his wardrobe is garish and obnoxiously vibrant. He has absolutely no defining features which is what makes him so adept at blending in. He's perfectly, wonderfully average.

Personality: If Balik's appearance is average, his personality is opposite. He's awkward in all duties that his position requires of him. He's often silent and sullen or brash and has no talent in diplomacy. He leaves most of his duties to his underlings but has to give the okay before any legislature. He is a very analytic thinker and does a fairly good job of weeding out the bad laws from the good.

He's fairly laid back, hates the formality of royalty, yet he's stuck in it, never truly relaxing around people. He doesn't like to be the center of attention- another reason he doesn't enjoy his position- and is a fantastic observer with a fairly good memory. If he's caught in the spotlight when he's not expecting it, he's prone to stuttering.

Whatever his feelings on his position, Balik does believe he needs to do what's best for his people. However, if there is ever a problem, he often ignores it until the last possible moment. This is why the issue with Stephan has gone on for so long. Any personal conflict with anyone, especially those he's close to, he avoids. If one bests him in intelligence, Balik's becomes confrontational and defensive.

Though he doesn't show it well, he does love his children. He sees himself in each of them though and is trying to erase that aspect, believing it to be in their best interest since his traits haven't worked out so well for him. He does this especially for Stephan- he hardly knows what to do with him anymore if he ever did- and is beginning to do the same with Melina. Her going out of the castle terrifies him. He merely wants the best for them all, but fathering isn't his forte, and he's often impatient with them.

Background/History: Balik was the youngest of three princes. He was not supposed to be king and was not prepared by anyone to take the throne. In fact, he was left to his own devices throughout his childhood and the beginning of his adulthood. His brothers were jealous of each other, both groomed for kingship to see which would be more fit. When their father died before he could decide, they both began a war filled with assassination attempts. In the end, they killed each other, leaving a rambunctious, wild Balik to take the throne.

Strengths: He's very intelligent and thinks everything through very carefully before making a decision. He's not your average thinker and can often find solutions for hard problems. He takes his responsibilities seriously even if he's not truly cut out for them.

Weaknesses: He has trouble communicating his thoughts or feelings effectively to anyone. He's slow to make relationships and doesn't keep up with them very well. He's not suited for royalty or fatherhood.

Name: Kamira Douala

Age (any age is fine): 34

Gender: Female

Position (Specify which of the characters in the character list): Queen

Appearance: She has dark red-brown hair, freckles, low cheek bones, and hazel eyes. Her hair falls well down below her shoulders. She is slim, unlike her husband, and always wears emerald green clothing. She is 5'7, a couple of inches shorter than her husband.

Personality: She is a firecracker to say the least. She will speak her mind to anyone who wants to (Or doesn't) hear it and she influences her husband a lot when it comes to politcal and financial troubles over the kingdom. She is agressive, and will always strive to get what she wants.

Background/History: A princess of another small residing country next to Luxphalia, Kamira was one to get what she wanted, even when she was a little kid. With four older sisters and one older brother, she was the youngest of the family, the child, by four years. She was treated like an angel because of that, and it made her spoiled.

The first thing she ever got that she didn't want was an arranged marriage at the age of sixteen, when she was set up to marry the newly appointed king of Luxphalia. Even though that was supposed to be a great honor, and even though all of her siblings envied her for it (Except her brother, for he was the king of their country at the time) although she pitied herself, because she didn't want it!

But it happened, and with it, she treated all of the people she met in Luxphalia horribly, including her husband. Oh, she was a manipulating person. She manipulated her husband, being the young and foolish person he is, to abiding to her every will, while she gently played the strings on the government for many years, working behind the scenes as her husband became the "great" king he is today.

Now, he thinks of himself as being a king when needed, although he has to be less and less, as Kamira takes over the kingdom, manipulating one person after another.

Strengths/Weaknesses: She was taught to fight, and will do so, if needed. Her manipulation skills and her ability to deceive, though, will make her fighting uneeded. However, if her husband gets overthrown, there is nothing she can do to stop it, and she will not hold any more power over the government.

Up for love?: Well, she's married, but it was arranged. She might be up for an affair, though.

Other: She has a pet cat that follows her around that has been her friend for years called "Whispers." He is her partner in crime, so to speak.
