Welcome to the brand new, Genre-Bending "Storybook," created by your friends CowLogic and Omniyus.

This story, fueled by waffles, intense brainstorming sessions, and excellent writers will change everything you ever knew about this type of thread, and you will experience joy, laughter, and tears as you read and write this epic account of bondage, rebellion, and rebirth. We hope you will all join us in this monumental attempt to create the best Storybook ever. It will be a great time had by all.
Spoiler
Other side-affects of this story may be, but are not limited to: end to world hunger, world peace, vomiting, end to poverty, the cure for cancer, the cure for polio, the invention of time travel (we know that this part will work, because polio already has a cure, you see?), mild indigestion, explosive laughing fits, increased charisma and good looks, and even cash being dumped into custom stitched pockets by dump trucks. Please inform your doctor if you have thoughts of suicide, even if it is not caused by this forum. This storybook is not for everyone, so ask your doctor before joining. Just kidding, this storybook is for everyone.

Without, further ado, here is our story outline, in which we have invested a lot of planning:

The Plot:

History:
Spoiler
On the year of 2015, the Sentients arrived to Earth. They descended from the heavens at a quick speed, hurtling towards the ground in a large rocket, landing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, yet slowing down enough that it did not cause major damage to any coastline. Instantly recognizing that the massive satellite was not our own, Japan and the United States both raced to the ship with fleets of ships and airplanes. The US got there first, but it mattered not. The rocket was inhabited, by a human-like people, who were most definitely not human.

They claimed to have come from a planet in a completely different galaxy, and said that they came in peace. We welcomed them into society, calling them Sentients, because of their intense knowledge, that matched, and even in some cases exceeded our own. Although there were at first issues of spec-ism and prejudice, eventually humans and Sentients were able to live in harmony and a period of prosperity followed known as the Era or Prosper or the Second Pax Period.

During this period, the Sentients and humans worked together to create a very prosperous and peaceful world, using our combined knowledge and resources to advance technology to a previously unheard-of degree. The Sentients had increased knowledge of energy use and storage, the reason they were able to travel here, yet we had superior skills in mechanical engineering and elemental physics and chemistry, and together we created technology and other advancements that skyrocketed wealth and society to a whole new level. We lived in peace and well-being for more than 100 years, however, sometime all good things must come to an end.

Eventually the Sentients began to evolve. They became slowly and surely less human-resembling, showing abilities to transform their bodies by increased or decreased transfer of energy to various points. They became stronger than us, and smarter than us, showing obvious dominance in most areas. As their physical attributes increased, their egos ascended, and they began to be greedy of things that we had never fought over before. The Sentients took advantage of us as less superior beings by taking over our operations, our governments, our lives, through snide influence and threats. They assumed a higher status than humans, and eventually became king-like, trying to control us to the point of reducing our lives as favor to their own.

The last straw occurred when Sentients in Egypt began to shoot humans who showed "disrespect." We declared our protection in the "Second Rights of Man" document, and confronted the Sentient leaders in a massive protest in front of the massive UN Building in New York City, which had became the World Capital City during the Era of Prosper. In response, they gunned us down in the streets. War was immediate.

The early stages of the war were known as the Terror Campaign. During this time, Sentients went ballistic, murdering and torturing humans in a small genocide. We eventually lost our delusions of peace and began to mobilize our armies. The battle did not utilize Nuclear Weapons because the Humans and Sentients were so intermingled and integrated that there were no true targets. The war of Man vs. Alien lasted for over a decade, the first 6 years being the most bloody, the last being the humans who refused to surrender being wiped out. It was named the Motherland War or the Great War. In an early victory, we had stormed NYC and taken control of the UN building.

As time wore on, the humans hit a massive road-block. The Sentients were changing still, and in a bad way. They were evolving to be more destructive, more physically superior. And sometimes they transformed. They could, at will, turn into something so mysterious and horrifying that it is impossible to describe except for the words cold and dark. In this form, the Sentients could inspire much fear and destruction among their human enemies, and this caused the humans to lose ground, being defeated again and again, and losing more soldiers every second. Soon our weaponry was gone, our ammunition was gone, and for most of us, our pride was gone.

The final battle of the war was in 2151. All of the human army had accepted defeat and surrendered to the Sentients except for the battalion that was still in the heavily fortified NYC. We staged our final stand there, fighting back to the death against an onslaught of heavily armed Sentients. We fought long and hard, but eventually they made it to the UN Building, where we eventually were taken by force. No prisoners were taken. Every human who was caught inside the city died. This massacre encompassed more than 200,000 men, women, and children. Because of this final stand, it was known as the Battle of the Alamo, and that title eventually spread to refer to the whole war: The Alamo War. (This is an important rallying point for your humans in the story.)

The humans became demoralized in defeat and were subject to a mostly non-lethal genocide by the Sentients, who now overpowered them entirely. After the terror had subsided, the human race was enslaved by the Sentients. Humans now catered to the Sentients hand and foot, performing all tasks for them and doing all work for them. They worked in mines and on plantations, letting the Sentients reap the benefits of the raw goods, and worked in factories to manufacture products that the humans could not use. A large portion also became personal servants to the Sentients, who now lived in extreme wealth, while giving their slaves horrible living conditions. As the days wore on, more and more humans became agitated. However, in the early days of the enslavement, any form of rebellion was squashed.

The humans were beaten and trampled upon for the next 2 decades, and a new generation of humans began to take over the slave positions as many of their seniors died from disease and starvation. These young men and women were strong from work and very, very angry. Tensions built as they grew more and more hatred towards the Sentients, now entirely inhuman, looking more like flesh-like birds than people, growing steadily overweight, and the humans increasingly wanted, needed, a change in the status quo. There seemed to be a familiar trend rising out of the darkness. That of war.

The story starts:
Spoiler
The year is now 2176. After being enslaved since the Battle of the Alamo during the humans final stand in New York, the humans are now servants and workers, who can barely survive in addition to being treated brutally and cruelly by their Alien masters. The Sentients are becoming a little too comfortable in their positions of power though. Below them, the people are stirring, and stirring very hard. There are many tensions, and unbeknownst to the Sentients, the humans want retribution for their ancestors and parents lost in the Motherland War.

Meanwhile, the Sentient government grew corrupt and bureaucratic, and lazy along with it. Their most powerful base of operations was in the UN Building, which was now converted into a Sentient stronghold. In it lay the governing body of the alien race, and one of the largest battalions of Sentients anyone has ever seen. This will become the main objective for the human uprising, the target which mean the most, both practically and emotionally.

Your story will follow the humans as they grow from small uprisings into a huge rebellion, which will eventually turn into the Second Motherland War. Good luck and play fair. But not too fair. It's time to take back what's ours.

Playable Species:
Spoiler
Humans: You are a part of a dying race. After fighting multiple wars and losing most all of them, you are now enslaved. The willpower of you and your people have been diminished down to almost nothing. Working in the Mines of Algorath in Colorado, or the factories in what was Newark, NJ, and Detroit, MI, or serving the Sentients in their magnificent homes, your people are working away physically, mentally, and emotionally down to nothing. You shall be one of these people.
You are one of the only people left that have hope. It is your job to inspire that hope among your human brethren and to take up arms against the Sentients.

Note: We suggest that most of you pick humans. Just because they are not solid crystal statues for most of Season 1.

Note: Your person can have some kind of adaptations. It is recommended. Nothing too big, like a third arm, but something is wanted. (Always keep in mind that the main rallying point you work around is your humanity, which is adverse to the inhumanity of the Sentients. Therefore, your whole character should not be based around his or her "adaptation.")

Mudmen: You were the pride of the Sentients, called the Scientists, who were the most excelled in wisdom and knowledge. Some could even use complex math and science skill to use nature to harness energy in ways that some humans might call ''magic." Now you are the Mudmen.

Now, though, you are the pride and glory of the UN building. You are a crystal statue residing in the halls of the converted UN building. You cannot move, but you can think and feel. The only possible good thing about being a Mudman is that the crystal can and is storing vast amounts of energy, from both the environment and a bit from you.

Note: Please PM Omniyus if you want more information on this character. Omniyus will message if you pick this character.

Other (non-playable) Species:
Spoiler
Sentients: They now look much different than the humanoids that had once landed on earth with a heart-shaped box of chocolates.

The Sentients are now pale, fleshy, and birdlike. Although they are gaining weight, you can see through their skin somewhat and there are many varicose veins and arteries. They are very frightening to the human eye, especially when they transform into the Dark, their fear-inspiring state. They are bigger than humans, most standing at a lanky excess of 8 or more feet, and they have very long arms and fingers. They are crudely intelligent, yet speak in weird, horse, voices.

You cannot play these characters, but it is important to know what they look like in order to paint an accurate picture of your characters enslavement, display.

Okay, I'm still new to YWS.

I could really use it if you could explain to me how SB'ing works, and how you will be doing it here.

I'd like to join.

Question: Why can't we be Sentients? I really like stories where at least one bad guy turns out to not be completely bad.

Please let me know in detail.

Spoiler
Name:Ao Mark'Zuul (Just called Ao)

Species:Mudman

Age:376.9 human years

Appearance:He is covered in deep blue saphhires, so no one can see his skin or any of his other features.

Personality: Being the oldest and wisest of his race known to mankind, over twice the age of the time the average Sentient dies. He used to be a stubborn but kind person. Now, though, his memory is going. Right now most the things he thinks of right now are thoughts that he hasn't remembered in many decades. Maybe if the crystal was gone from him, we could learn more about him.

History:Being one of the first Sentients to greet the Humans, he was the first diplomat between the Humans and the Sentients. Learning their language quickly, he fully supported the Humans the entire time before the wars began. He fully supported the Humans during every war but watched as the civilization of the Humans fell slowly. Even his immense knowledge in nonlinear algebra that allows him to harness a small kind of nature power did not help the onslaught of Sentients. Now he is in the Great Hall of the UN building, where the highest officials of the Sentients meet often. He is there as a reminder of the major milestone in the lost of the war for the Humans. Now his age is catching up with him dangerously fast while in his crystal cacoon.

Other: (Anything you might want to add that I did not mention)Inside his mind might hold the secrets of destroying the crystal cells he and his brethren live in. However, the only people that he can contact are other Mudmen, and vise versa.

Spoiler
Name: Peter Sebastian Cloud (though he'll get violent if you call him anything else than Cloud)
Species: Human
Age: 19

Appearance: Cloud is one of the few humans who has been specifically created to be a perfect plaything for the sentients. Gene manipulation has given him a quite odd look, beautiful but odd.
5'10, slender. He has extremely pale, flawless skin and white hair. His rainbow colored eyes are probably his most striking feature.ImageImage
Personality: He's not very talkative and never looks anyone in the eye. He acts very much like a dog, since that is what he's been treated like for the bigger part of his life. Cloud's angry and dangerous, to say the least, and he's very bad at hiding it. After years of what can only be described as torture, both mentally and physically, he's not quite sane and one should make sure to tread carefully around him. He flares up from the smallest of things, and is extremely easy to startle. He can be nice, a really good friend in fact, but only when he has a good day.. And most of his days are bad. He only has a few people that he trusts, and towards them he's almost like a functioning person, but will act much like a guard dog. On his worst days he's paranoid, believing that anyone who as much as touches him is trying to kill him. He suffers from insomnia and horrible nightmares, and most nights he'll just refuse to go to bed in the first place. The lack of sleep makes his aggression and paranoia even worse.

History: Cloud was created in a lab, designed to look exactly as his sentinent owner wanted him to look. He was raised to be an obedient servant and taught how to meet his masters every need. When the training was done Cloud had become the perfect slave, at least on the outside. He hated the sentinents more than anything, especially his master.

After serving his master for about ten years he was finally pushed too far. His master had thrown food on the floor and forced Cloud to eat it, while his master was laughing at his 'dog'. Cloud finally broke when his master began kicking him, and he stabbed his master to death with a table knife. After that he managed to run away and hide. He currently has a price on his head.

He lived on the streets for quite some time, fighting for every crum of food and generally struggling to survive, when Gregory took him in. Gregory is one of the very few who have ever been able to gain his full trust. Cloud will protect the old man with his life, and will obey his every order.

Other: He fights with whatever he can get his hands on. When he loses it he's most likely to just attack with bare hands and teeth.
I'd love if someone could become his friend. Towards that person he'll be like an extremely loyal guard dog/servant.

I'll edit this ASAP, I promise. :D

Spoiler
Name: Gregory
Species: Human
Age: 68 (heh)
Appearance: Being and old man put through lots of physical labor, he is very thin. Not only that, but he always wears a white vest with long pants that make him look even sillier thinner. His near bald head still has specks of grey hair scattered about and his eyebrows are about as bushy as an actual bush. He's almost always squinting, and walks with a bit of a hunch in his back.

Despite his fragile appearance, he still thinks he's twenty he'll still swing at you when you get him angry.
Personality: Greg is more of a strategist now than anything. Whether he's having a talk with his buddy or making a deal with the government, he's always serious. It's probably the only reason he's still alive. If there was to be a real major rebellion, he wouldn't be the one fighting, he'd be pulling the strings from behind. He studied war history even before the war, and he hopes it'll eventually pay off eventually.
History: Greg is a pretty old fellow who not only was alive while the war was going on, but fought in it as well. While he wasn't at the main base in NYC, he was nearby, and was able to escape when he realized how poor the Humans defenses were. He's played his cards right so far, and he hopes he'll live long enough to not make the same mistake the humans did before.

Somewhere down the road he met Peter, who he quickly took in as his own. The two were inseparable from the start. Being that Peter was very aggressive and Gregory loved to seem intimidating, they were a perfect combination.

The rest of his life is pretty normal, same as the average person. It wasn't until the war that his life got a bit exciting (and we all know how that turned out).
Other: (Anything you might want to add that I did not mention) Oh, he's up for a relationship. ;)

Spoiler
Name: Robert Shay Tenet.

Species: Human.

Age: 17.

Appearance: 6’2, well built, blue eyed, fast, and smart. Tan, but not overly so, well built, but not thick, fast, but not unnaturally so, smart, but not a nerdy kind of smart, more of an advanced ability of figuring things out.

Personality: He’s silent, non-social, and an introvert. He doesn’t want friends, and believes he doesn’t need them either. He believes that the only way he can make a difference in the world is in his own personal sphere of influence, his family and home, and that he should not worry about the rest of the world’s problems as long as he has his under control. He lives by this rule. He will fight to protect what few things he cares about in this world until he is dead without a thought. Of course, he’s going to find that he is a part of the world, and he can’t make his own world separate from everything else. He also prefers being called by his middle name; Shay.

History: He was told his mother had died from a plague break out years ago. His father (Daniel) broke his back from a fall in the mines when Robert was only ten and his older brother (Jacob) and sister (Mariah) had been left with the job of taking care of him and his younger sister (Cara). Jacob is a miner in a nearby mine, and Mariah (Who keeps Cara with her at all times) is a slave of the Sentient that controls the town, they are both out working for most of their day, and rarely see Robert who is left home. He’s left at home, that doesn’t mean he stays at home. At eighteen he will have to go work in the mine’s, but until then he will not even be recognized by the Sentients, and due to his introvert attitude, isn’t noticed by the humans either.
So he uses his time roaming the wild plains and forests surrounding the town, developing skills in fighting and hunting that will be invaluable later on. . .
Now, he’s going to turn 18 in only a few months. And the last thing he, a free creature, wants, is to be bound to something he doesn’t want to be bound to. . .

Other: I’ve tried not to give too much detail in “History” because I plan on filling that out later.
For I who am poor have only my dreams

General L. Defarge

Spoiler
Name: Louis Defarge

Species: French-American Human (Leader of rebellion)

Age: Somewhere in his early thirties.

Appearance: He is tall, large, broad shouldered, and muscular. He has a haved head, which makes visible many scars from work under the horrible rule of the Sentients. He has dark brown, oily French skin, yet is tough, and thick-skinned. His face is in a perpetual state of anger, from years of grimacing under the stress of hard physical labor.

Personality: He is a very fair and reasonable guy at first, but is blunt and strong-willed. He does not put up with people who like to trick and connive their way in life. He is very much the leader-type. He speaks simply and not a lot, yet can give one hell of a improvised Shakespearean speech if it is warranted.

History: He never knew his parents. he was too young to remember them, and even if he had a good memory, it would have not lasted him because of a concussive strike to the skull that he had suffered from a Sentient slave master when he was only a boy. His teacher in the Orphanage told him that they had been killed fighting in the Battle of the Alamo in NYC back in 2151.

When he was young and entering the orphanage service that the Sentients had organized to spread out the future slaves (children of parents killed in the war), he was sent to a children's home in Colorado, and as soon as he was of "working age" (18) he was removed from his sanitation duties and sent to work in the Mines of Algorath, which were famous for producing very valuable resources for Sentient technology energy use. They were also infamous for their horrible work conditions for the human slaves.

With no other choice than to work, he reluctantly became bigger, tougher, and worked harder than most anyone in the mines. He became respected by everyone who knew him, and he was very angry, and very demanding of respect. He uncomplainingly worked the mines, yet if he was shown unwarranted disrespect from anyone, Sentient or fellow human, he became mad and would retaliate. Because of his willingness to work and value, the Sentients kept him alive, yet they remained wary of him. He was dangerous, not only because of physical prowess, but because of his ability to rile up every worker in the mines. If there were to be a rebellion he would be the center of it.

Other: He is married to Candice Defarge, a house slave to a very important Sentient lord, and she shares his enthusiasm and passion for humanity. He has two daughters, Candice, 8, and Jen, 6. He loves them greatly, but expects them to be self-reliant and tough young kids, always telling them that they will grow up in a society, that while human, is reconstructing, and that they will play major roles in it.

Huh. I figured I'm the only girl so far

Spoiler
Name: Marietta Leroy
Species: human
Age: 16

Appearance: She has dark brown hair, straight on the upper part and wavy under her shoulders. It falls over her chest and she always wears it loose. Her skin is pale, from all the years she stayed in the dark, and her eyes are so dark green that they seem black - unless when she cries, then they are rather light. She is hourglass shaped, yet very thin and one can hardly tell if she looks fragile or stern - or something third.
Her whole back are scarred with symbols carved in her skin, which she doesn't know the meaning of. The only piece of accessory, which also marks where she belongs, is red ribbon tied around her head.
You can imagine her like this, only with paler and somewhat clearer skin.
Image

Personality: Marietta is closed, serious, smart and cold. At the first glance, anyway. She feels with the frightening intensity, as she was made so during all the years she spent imprisoned, but has learned to never let it show. Though very young, she almost never acts as anything but an adult, as she never really had a childhood to learn about games and smiles in. Truly, she is scared of the Sentients beyond her understanding, though at the same time she feels some kind of loyalty to them. She has hard time trusting people, and never makes any friends, as the experience has taught her that those usually end up dead.
She really hates being alone, and prefers any company over none, though she won't let that show either. Having no belongings except for a little, old, stuffed animal, Marietta doesn't really understand the concept of something being one owns - except for people, that is. People can be owned.
During all the years she spent among the Sentients, thanks to her interest and natural talent for it, she has learned a lot of the language - she is not able to speak it, but can understand much better than her Master probably believes she can.

History: She has been a slave and a servant to the Sentients for as long as she remembers. Before that, she only knows what she was told - that her parents were rebels and both killed, while her Master took mercy on her (more like, wanted to experiment on a child, because why not trying something new) and protected her. She was, unlike many others that served as nothing but toys for their Masters, an object of investigations and observations, forced to experience her weak human feelings to the levels she would break on.
During all the years, however, she has gained something that could almost be close to trust - more like they know she has nowhere to go - of her Master, so she also carries his messages and gets him new people.
Children especially - children love Marietta, and the stories she is able to make up, and they follow her when she calls. (She hates betraying her own race over and over again, but she herself doesn't really realize that, so someone should open her eyes to the fact she has no reason to be loyal to her enslavers.)

Other: She never dreams, if she even manages to fall asleep. She has never known someone to be close to, but actually is up for love or any kinds of relationships. She will act strangely, though, as she has no experience in those matters.

Second girl. Hope you guys are ready for a fighter!

Spoiler
Name: Nya Rey
Species: Human
Age:22
Appearance:
Image
Personality:Strong willed and courageous, when she was 19 she escaped from imprisonment and made her way into the wilderness. She is determined and often close minded but can be swayed to make the right decisions when it’s needed. She’s a born leader and often finds herself mediating fights. Though she is strong in character her mother taught her to be gentle and kind-hearted, and behind that tough exterior is a compassionate person who hates to see her fellow humans hurt. She has medical experience but has witnessed her fair share of death. She is hot tempered at time and often seeks shelter in the wilderness to cool off (think Robin Hood.) Her left arm is adorned with hash marks (9), each representing a person she loved and cared for who died at the hands of the Sentients; vowing to avenge them when the time came.
History: Her father and mother were the strongest people she knew. When she was 12 they gathered their rebel army and attacked a Sentient base; they were both killed. Since she was born, her father had told her stories a place where runaways could find shelter, he often refered to it as "The Haven." (Some think this is a rumour started by the Scientists to capture humans who try to escape, but her father met a runaway who had been there and promised a place for his family.).” She always had a sense that her parents were preparing her for when the time came and they weren't able to be there to help her. She had weapons of all kinds in her hands since she able to hold them, training with her father were some of the happiest memories and she keep them in the forfront of her memory, cherishing them. In her time, her mother had been a great healer and people came from all over to get help from her, time after time Nya would find her mother quizzing her on the different kinds of herbs and how to make polaces; She would often ask how broken bones were to be set, how to recognize differnt poisonings. Not long after her parets death, she realized that her mother was doing more than asking simple questions, she was training her. To her dismay, her Sentient owner noticed her skill at fighting and healing and was made to serve as a guard to their last born girl. She holds no ill regard for the child but vowed to escape. Finally when she was 19 managed to slip away. She now seeks the Haven and anyone who can help. She longs for companionship and often helps fellow runaways cope in the wilderness.
Other: She has exceptional hearing and can hear things that average humans can’t, she also has above average self-healing and seems to be able to control it, hence the scars on her left arm.

Spoiler
Name: Patrik Jamison, "Trik". You will get punched if you call him Patty.
Species: Human
Age:19
Appearance:Patrik has black hair and green eyes. He stands about 6'2" tall, is lean and muscular, and super strong. He has a tattoo on his left shoulder of a cobra; his back is riddled with scars from his Master beating him, especially as a child. Image Same pic if that doesn't work...(look more at his build and face-shape)

Personality: Patrik is quiet. Even his Master, who beats some of his mistresses for talking too much, is slightly unnerved by his silence. Few people have heard him speak, and most people believe that he can't talk. He is far smarter than most humans, and has been planning his rebellion since he could walk; which is why he encourages the rumor that he can't talk, so his Master will think him stupid.

However, though he is smart, his temper is very short. He often trades blows with people, even if he won't trade words. He usually gives people death glares, warning them to shut up, before he decks them, but not always.

He hates the Sentients with a passion, but especially his Master, Drin. He is strong willed and will stop at nothing to get revenge.

History:
Patrik doesn't know where he came from. His earliest memories are of him being abused by Drin, who had a weakness for small boys. As he grew older, and started hurting when he fought back, Drin stopped molesting him-- but continued to beat him every chance he got.

Patrik was eventually made to be Drin's son's playmate. He was forced to accompany the fat little jerk everywhere he went. The boy didn't like Patrik, and often put him in corner, ordering him to be quiet. Patrik happily complied, as he learned the boy's lessons better than he did, and began formulating the first inklings of a rebellion.

Realizing that Drin and his son thought him a half-wit, Patrik played along, never speaking, pretending to be absent most of the time. He gets into fights often, and is severely beaten when he does. Every time Drin gives him an opportunity to justify himself, to beg for mercy, and every time Patrik remains silent and takes the beating unflinchingly.

He trusts no one, and plans to keep it that way.

Other: (Anything you might want to add that I did not mention) Patrik found a snake when he was young, and has been sneaking her food and such since. The snake, Phantom, is often near him--either in a cage, or, more frequently, hiding up his sleeve. He's also up for a relationship, if he finds a girl he can trust.

Ao Mark'Zuul

The cavern was lit just enough for me not to be able to make out their faces. But I knew who they were. I knew that they were the ones who captured me at the Mines of Algorath. They were the leaders of this insane dissent in darkness. They used to be my friends.

They were the Sentients, or what was left of them.

My sapphires shivered with glory as a breeze of wind flowed through the main hall. Another inch of the crystal dug itself into my right arm, sucking my energy from me.

My mind reared, and my blue vision went black.

The rocket was a beauty. But it was too small. Too small to fit all of us.

Rio'Kelx raised his hand, and the chatter stopped immediately. "Not all of us can go. So first, I will ask for volunteers. We have seen what they can do, so I want the best diplomats to be at the front doorstep when we ge there."

"Do you think we really have time to choose who gets to go on?" A deep voice came from the background. I turned to see A'noeir, leader of the once strong Nomads. "Our planet is literally crumbling beneath us, and you think that we have enough time to choose?"

"I know for a fact that we don't have enough time to have small vain arguements." He stepped closer to A'noeir. "Besides, I am the leader of this operation, and you're the leader of what?" A'noeir gritted his teeth but said nothing. "Oh yes, I remember, a dead race. So if you'll excuse me, I'll do things the way that is appropriate for the team, not just for you. And if you don't like it, then you can go back down to Rium."

He turned his attention back to the crowd. "Once again, I ask you for volunteers. This is a dangerous ride, and I don't expect anyone to jo-"

"I'll do it." I cut him off.

I gasped. The pain subsided. The lighting was better now. I could see the faces of the people who were chatting and laughing amongst themselves. It was A'noeir and his two sidekicks, Melh'd and Roesn't Qeis.

I pressed my ear against the rough crystal and used what little power I had to eavesdrop on them.

"In all seriousness, though, have we found anything in the Mines yet?" A'noeir asked.

"No, but we have more servants working the mountain down as we speak." Roesn't said silently. "There was a rumor about a Scientist that isn't cacooned yet."

A'noeir snarled and stared at my statue. "I thought we rounded up all of them when we took him."

"Apparantly not."

He stood up abruptly. "Well find him! I want all of them rounded up!" They nodded and left the hall. He walked slowly over to me. "Well, Ao, do you have someone one the outside?" I tried my hardest to sit still. He scratched some crystal off of my right hand. "How does it feel, Ao? Does it hurt?" He moved closer to me, so close that I could smell him, even through the crystal. "I hope so."

With that, he walked away and the lights dimmed once again, leaving me to my thoughts.

Patrick Sebastian Cloud - Having a very bad day
The shadows were coming alive. They reached out and tried to grab me, tried to strangle me. If I fell asleep they would kill me. They would slither towards me and curl themselves around me until I couldn't breathe. That's what they always did. Every time I fell asleep they would come and try to kill me.

When one of them grabbed my shoulder I spun around with a growl, ready to fight. To my surprise it was just the old man. "You haven't slept in two days, Cloud. Go to sleep." The shadows were still now, when he was here. They were hiding from him.

I shook my head violently. "They'll kill me."

"No one is going to kill you. Just lie down and sleep, I'll watch over you."

I glanced over at the bed. It did indeed look inviting, but I knew it was only a trick. The shadows wanted me to go to sleep. I'd be defenseless then. But if the old man stayed.. If he stayed then they would hide. Maybe I could sleep, just for a little while.

"Get some sleep. We need to leave this place soon."

We were staying in an abandoned house, in an abandoned part of the city. The houses were old, they had been here even before the first Sentinents came. I didn't like it. Not at all. Being outside was much better, for no one could corner you there. Here I was surrounded by walls and shadows, all threatening to kill me.

Silently I crawled into the bed and curled myself around one of the pillows. "Don't leave," I told the old man and cringed slightly at the pleading tone in my voice. I didn't like sounding like that. My master had made me sound like that, and I didn't want to be a slave any more.

He sat down on a chair with a slight sigh. "I'm not going to leave. Go to sleep now. I'll wake you if anyone comes."

I fought to stay awake a while longer, but eventually my eyelids were too heavy to hold up, and my thoughts too foggy to force me to try. I drifted of into the darkness of my mind.

"Sebastian, aren't you cold?" My master smiled, but I knew that his twisted smiles were not good. Every time he smiled I knew he was going to hurt me. "You don't have to sleep on the floor." I shook my head weakly. My whole body was shivering and even though I tried I couldn't stop hacking teeth. "Come and lay here beside me instead."

I knew that if I tried to refuse he'd beat me, or have one of his servants do it, so I got up and crawled down beneath the warm sheets. The collar chafed my neck. It was a dog's collar, or so I had been told. My master found it amusing. He liked having a human as his dog. "I want to have some fun. Don't you want to have fun, Sebastian?"

I sat up with a jolt and gasped for air. I knew I shouldn't have gone to sleep. Sleeping was always bad. Always always bad. I looked around. At least the shadows were gone now. The sun was up, and the old man was still sitting in his chair, watching me.

"We should go now," I mumbled. My mind was clearer now, as it always was when I had slept, but the horror of my dream still seemed too real. "This area is too close to the city. They might come looking."

I helped the old man up from his chair. "Yes, lets go."
