Name: Eric Ballard

Group: Leader of Group A

Gender Male

Age: 31

Physical Description: Tall and muscular. He has rough hands from working on cars and a dark complexion with short dark hair. Rarely found to smile, but his blue eyes can give away his attitude.

Personality: He is not an overly friendly person, but when the time came he proved to be a successful leader of the group. He does well in conflict, and does not get angry easily, but always has a sort of gruffness to his tone. He is good at keeping his head and knowing what is the right thing to do, even if it isn't always the moral thing to do.

History (Where did you come from, where were you during the outbreak): Both of his parents are dead and Eric is an only child. His girlfriend might be out there somewhere, but he has given up on her. Eric is a car mechanic a ways down the road from the mall. When his boss was attacked by a zombie, a coworker pulled a gun and began shooting it in the torso. That proved ineffective, so he was eaten as well. Eric pulled out a wrench and bashed the thing's brain in. That's when he looked outside, saw the streets teeming with the things, jumped into a car and began his journey toward the mall.

Relation to Other Characters: Leader of the group.

The door slammed inward.

“Come on everyone, move, move!” shouted Eric.

The group of five stumbled through the door. John carrying Kate on his front with Chloe and Bobby on either side.

“You, in the pink hair,” said Eric, “Cover the door, make sure none of those things get in.”

Bobby nodded and watched the door.

Eric pulled a gun out of the belt of his pants and headed down the large room of the mall, followed by Chloe and the doctor with his daughter.

A groan came out of the darkness of the mall. A man wearing a bloodied T-shirt and jeans came limping toward the group. His face seemed rotten and deteriorated. The car mechanic lined up the sights on his pistol and fired a single shot. The bullet entered the zombie’s skull, knocking him to the floor. The sound of the gunshot echoed throughout the mall.

“Easy enough.” noted Eric, “These things aren’t so bad.”

Then suddenly another rotten figure appeared out of the dark, then another, and then another until there were at least a dozen dead figures walking toward the group.

“Run!” Eric cried.

The group Ran to the nearest room, which happened to be a clothing store.

“Come on!” Eric shouted to Bobby.

The pink haired girl ran as hard as she could past the stumbling zombies and into the store. Chloe then helped Eric to close the gate in front of the store.

“I managed to close off the door.” panted Bobby.

There was a noise from behind the cashier’s counter. Eric pulled his gun and pointed it toward the sound. Two heads appeared.

“Whoah, whoah, whoah, don’t shoot!” cried a startled Tony, “We’re human, we swear.”

Elizabeth and Tony stepped out from behind the counter with their hands up. Eric put his gun down, and sat against the wall. The walkers reached their arms through the gate, moaning and screaming, trying as hard as they could to break through to the fresh human meat.

“Well, we’re stuck here for a bit, let’s introduce ourselves. I’m Eric. Killed two of them so far.”

“What exactly are they?” asked Elizabeth.

“They’re dead,” invoked the doctor, “I was studying them before the outbreak. If they bite you, you get sick, and you die. Only way to kill them is to destroy the brain. I bullet to the brain and that’s it.”

Eric stood up.

“Well, what are you all waiting for? I’m gonna look around for a bit.”

Introduce yourself, look around, and most importantly, figure out what to do next!

Sorry it's late guys. Had some er.... technical issues mixed with some distractions that pushed me back, but here it is.

Joe popped out from under the hood of the car, followed by a cloud of smoke and a blast of steam. "She's done," he said. "She'll never start again. Not with the parts we've got."

"What if we went into town? Got the parts?" I said. In truth, I was kind of glad Julie's card had died. It wasn't durable, it was only a matter of time. Now all we had left was Joseph's truck, and that thing burned gas like there was no tomorrow.

"Na man, not worth it," Joe said. "You'd be better off just getting a new car." I hid back a smile and replied.

"Alright. Everybody! Everybody come here!" Slowly, the rest of the group came to surround me. Once I was sure everybody was there, I began. "Ok. So Julie's car is dead," I heard a few groans and sighs from amongst the group. "So we need to go into town and get a new one.” I pulled my map of the city from my pocket. “We’ve got dealerships here, here, and here,” I motioned to places on the maps with my finger. “I’ll split us up into groups of 2, and we’ll go, find something, and come back. What we’re looking for is more trucks. Nothing diesel, and if it’s got a plow, even better.” I looked around at the group. “Now. Glen.” He perked up at the sound of his name. “You’ll be going with me.”

“Yes sir,” he replied. I never understood why he called me sir.

“Ok good, now go get a weapon and meet me back here in 5.” He hurried off, and I looked at the group. “Righty and Lefty, you two can go together,” I said. They smiled and looked at each other. “Don’t go anywhere yet. There’s more.” They nodded and stayed still. “Kara, you will be going with Mary.” she looked at me and nodded. Glen came back, an assault rifle in his hand. “Alright, so if you find one, get the keys, and when you leave, honk 3 times if all goes well. The dealerships are pretty close to each other, so we should here. If something bad happens, just get back ASAP. Now, let’s get a move on.” I started to walk away when Jessie hurried over to me.

“Dad, I want to go on this one.” I got down on one knee and looked him in the eye.

“Son, you can’t drive, there’s no need for you to go on this one.”

“But—” I cut him off.

“But nothing. Next time, I promise.” I stood up and ruffled his hair a bit. “You just stay here and hold down the fort for me.” He sighed and nodded, and I turned to Glen.

“Sunlight’s fadin’, better get a move on.” He nodded. I checked the clip, popped it back into my 30 odd 6, and we set off, the camp at our backs.

I ran in to the mall winded and out of breath. Somehow I managed to close the giant gate and run inside before we were attacked again. I had thankfully kept the big kitchen knife I took when I had to kill my parents with. I sighed and thought about them for a minute then pulled my self together to look strong. We met two more people who where hiding when a guy who introduced him self as Eric.

We quickly said our names and a little bit of our history and set off to get supplies. We went in little groups so I went off with a girl with pink hair who introduced her self as Bobby. I had my knife in my hand and She had found a bit of a broken chair that was sharp at the ends. We walked down the hallway and popped into a Old Navy. We looked around and got some good clothes that would probably fit us and the other guys. We started back out of the store to find some food when a zombie popped out behind a rack. We froze for a second trying to register what was happening. I made a moaning sound and stumbled towards us.

"RUN!!!" I screamed as we ran out of the store. It followed us till I had tripped over a knocked over plant. The zombie neared me till it was 3 feet away and I could smell it. I screamed and jumped up shoving the knife I still had in my hand into its head. The zombie collapsed on the ground at my feet as I felt blood trickle down my leg from the fall. I dusted my self off and picked up the clothing I dropped. We ran back to the food court where we promised to meet when we got our supplies. My knee was now streaked with blood and I used a shirt that had ripped from the attack to clean it up. I tied it around my knee and thumped down on the ground. The rest ran to the food court with their stuff they found.

"We heard screams, are you guys OK?" Asked Tony with bloodshot eyes. We both nodded as he looked down to my knee.

"I fell." I said not wanting to worry them. They nodded as they spread the supplies out on the tables. We had got A first aid kit, 6 backpacks, enough food to last a couple days, 8 shirts, 7 pairs of pants, and 6 sleeping bags. I smiled and sat down exhausted from the day. We laid out the sleeping bags as the skylight slowly went dark and night took over.

"Let's head out." Benny said, picking up a pistol off the table.

"Heh, you're not gonna kill too many of those guys with that thing brooo." I told him, picking up a shotgun.

"We're trying to avoid them, not kill them. These are for when we have no other choice."

"If you say so man," I checked to see how many bullets were in the gun, "If I see one of those buggers-"

"Then you'll wait for me to tell you what do." He cut me off.

I stroked my goatee, "Lighten uuup, bro. If we're stuck with zombies we might as well have some fun with it. Crack a few skulls, know what I mean."

He stared at me for a long while, I think, and then left the room.

I stood there for a moment before coming to my senses, "Uh, we going now?"

James said my name and I immediately unblocked my mind from his speech. "You go with Mary." I nodded curtly. Darn it. I have to be with her?

The group split and walked off in their various directions, either getting ready for the trip or checking out our temporary defenses. I walked briskly to my corner of the makeshift camp and quickly found my table.

It wasn't much, but it was all I had left. On the table was a tuxedo, still in its plastic covering. It was my newest one. My dad bought it for me the day before I skipped out of town. I still haven't worn it yet.

To the left of the tux was a tomahawk, two daggers, a crossbow with five arrows next to it, and a rifle. The only other things that were on the table was a small Gameboy. It was signed by my two...friends, I guess you would call them that. Lefty and Righty. Such weird names.

There were no batteries in it, but it was the only thing I was able to grab before I left.

I looked down at myself. I was wearing a blue t-shirt that had "Halo 4" with Master Chief on it, sleeves cut off at the shoulder, and some blue jeans. I was wearing these the day I left and have been wearing them since, except to wash them and dry them.

I don't even remember why I put these on. I hated them, but that day, instead of putting on a tuxedo, I put on these clothes, thinking for some reason, that I was gonna need them. I guess I was right.

Time for you to retire, I thought. I quickly pulled the tux out of its cover and went to work on its sleeves and legs. I didn't need those anymore.

A few minutes later, the pant legs were pulled up to the knees and the sleeves were off at a little below the shoulders.

I put them on quietly and as fast as I could.

Once finished, I heard a cough behind me. It was Mary. "Hey Kara. Nice...suit you got there." Boy I hate her.

"Thanks," I said silently. She took that as an invitation and walked closer, inspecting my weapons.

"Wow, these are unique." She laughed to herself lightly. Apparently she thought what she said was funny.

"They've served me so far." I said as I made sure to move in front of her as I collected my tomahawk and two daggers, stuffing the daggers into the inside pockets of my suit and looping my tomahawk into my belt buckle.

Somehow she still managed to squeeze in and grab my rifle. "Mind if I use this? My pistol is broken. Brian is trying to fix it right now, but he's not so good at it."

"Sure, knock yourself out, we're leaving in two."

"Okay!" she snatched it up. Oh, so how I hoped she actually did knock herself out with that. Saves me the pain of hearing her the entire way.

That brought a small smile to my face as I walked away.

Wow that was a lot longer than I thought. Oh well. Hope you like it. (Die Mary!)

What the hell even happened? That’s what I want to know. One minute I am standing here, in the freakin’ harbor, and I’m raking in the dough like no one’s business in the card racket, schmoozing with the Mafioso, and now I’m- what?- livin’ life in the fast lane here, barely scraping it out against an army of the undead. Fan-freaking-tastic, that’s what it is, I tell you.

But I am cool. I am a professional. My Dad decided for me that I wasn’t going to get anywhere in life the easy way, let alone the legal way, so I just have to stay cool, whatever nobody or anybody throws at me. And I guess that means zombies included.

My home life is a story for another time though. Or maybe a story for NEVER, now that I think about it. Cause at the moment we are talkin’ about here, I was strolling down the highway with none other than Timothy Dean, a very good friend of mine, and not thinking about the cold. It’s all about the stinkin’ cold here in Maine. You never get used to it, no matter how long you spend in the dock, getting bucket after bucket of ice freakin’ hot brine pouring over you and your not-come-cheaply gloves getting drenched out of their minds.

But I digress.

So me and Righty here- sorry, gotta be grammatically correct, you know? – Righty and I, were taking a little walk down the good old New England interstate trying to find some kind of car dealership that fell with the humanity not too long ago.

He’s holding his jet black semi, a Franchi gun that don’t come cheap, and I was packing a silver Smith & Wesson 5906 in 9, also taken from his extensive personal armory that he brought with him when we beat Baytown. He had a machete strapped to his thigh, and I was carrying an Acme axe in my left hand. We advanced, relaxed, confident, professional.

“So what kind of car you thinking, Lefty?” Tim asked as he walked on next to me. “I’m thinking premium, brother. Fine, red convertible, that’s what I’m thinking.”

“Something practical. Pickup.”

He giggled, probably feelin’ the bubbles of a noonday high in his head. “You crazy, Lefty, my man. You want something practical, and you want a pickup? You know how much gas them things swallow? More than Brenda Paul-”

“Save me the details, Tim. You want gas conservation? Gt yourself a freakin’ Fiat or something. Smart Car, that’s what I was thinking of. Anyway, get you one of those. I want something durable.” Then I shut up again, hoping it would be for a little while before I had to open up.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just you wait, Lefty. First chance I get I’m revving up the engine of a high-class car.” The guy was slurring his words like something else.

I talked again, unfortunately. “Man, Righty? Can’t you go anywhere without a hit. It’s like, noontime right now. I thought that stuff wasn’t supposed to be addictive.”

“It ain’t, brother. I’m doing this cause I want to not cause I need to. By all means stop me here and now. God can take me for all I care for that stuff.”

“Yeah, sure.”

We continued down the road, comin’ up on what must have been the dealership. Record time, I may add. So thanks to Mr. Miller for giving us the shortest route. We weren’t close enough to any civilization to have to attempt caution, so I continued to relax, even though Righty seemed a little more excited than usual. That wasn’t good, because when Timothy Dean got excited, he liked pulling triggers. And that got us in dodge before.

I had to set him at ease a little, so that he doesn’t go blastin’ the sound siren of his blunderbuss there the first time a walker sticks his head in the line of fire.

“Righty. Heh. Remember the story of how we started calling you that?”

“Man. That is an embarrrrrrrasing story, broho. Let’s not get into it.” His voice seemed excited, confirming my suspicions. My suspicions are usually accurate.

“Yeah, you remember. It’s the eighth grade, right, buddy?”

“Sixth.”

“Right, the eighth grade. And you come up to the brat pack we were and introduce yourself. You says, ‘Hey guys, I’m new hieh, I fwom Beverly Hiaaalls.’ All hoity toity like that too.”

He chuckles. “Man! I was from the suburbs.”

“That’s what I said, Timothy, now shut up and let me finish the story before I decide not to. And then we introduce ourselves, and I tell you I’m Lefty, and you say, ‘Well, then, I’m Righty.’” I smiled, it hurt my lips a little. “That made us laugh for sure. You really didn’t understand the nick-naming system from the origins of our own Little Italy. So you became the name though. You got that much from us, way before you got any respect neither.”

“Nah, man, you see. But you were named Lefty. So, by process of elimination-”

“They called me Lefty because I am left handed, Oddjob.”

“Yeah,” Righty said earnestly, “And I’m right handed.”

I groaned. “Come on Deany, think. If everybody who wrote with their right hand got named Righty, then every freaking person in the world would have that nick-name.”

“Well they don’t,” he said with finality. “And I do. And that’s the story from A to shining Z.”

“Touché, Righty, touché.”

Now we were getting closer to the dealership. It was time to shut up and start to be careful. “Remember,” I whispered. “Don’t shoot that thing unless you really have to. Have to, not want to.”

We flanked either side of the automobile racket, and took vantage points ‘bout fifty yards from the place. Right away I noticed the walkers. Looks like a couple people were having a good ol’ bonfire or cooking up some **** like that before it hit the fan, cause there were four lamebrains wandering aimlessly among the cars parked in the parking lot.

And then I saw the jewel. It stood, right in front of the sole store window of the place, a stinking trophy to behold. Even my practical mind experienced some material lust right there before I got a hold on myself. It glistened like the sun and seemed to beckon with its side mirrors and sleek headlights.

Next to me, I heard some noises that indicated that my fine feathered plastered friend had seen the thing as well.

“Now that… is what we are taking with us, Lefty.”

“No, no, no, man, that thing, no way, Jose. Let’s be professional here, okay?”

We exchanged glances, and I knew that there was no changing his mind now. “That’s the one we’re taking with us.” He grinned a very wide grin.

Timothy 'Righty' Dean

She was a beauty. Just one look and I knew she had to be mine- ours. Mine.

I stepped out from under my cover, but Lefty stopped me, "Wait, you can't just walk up to it. We have to make sure the Walkers don't notice us."

I lifted my shotgun.

"No! Just, just wait for my signal."

"Chillax brooo. I won't do anything stupid." I said looking him right in the eyes, or close enough.

"Stay put, I'll be right back."

He went off, ducking in between cars so the Walkers wouldn't see him. So I was left with myself to sit there and think. Was that really how we met? I could've swore we'd seen each other before that. The sixth grade. Oh yeah, the first year of middle school. And I saw him, and he didn't see me, and we were both in the lunchroom. I had myself a bit of the legendary 'plants' from Thailand, and was about to share it with him when the lunch lady saw me. She asked me what it was and took it from me. She never gave it back, and I never saw her after that, but since I had nothing to show Lefty, I couldn't break ice. So it wasn't until the eighth grade, after I discovered this lovely plant called Pineapple Express, that I'd finally worked up the nerve to go talk to him. And that's when it all started...

"Tim!"

I jumped and fired my shotgun into the air. When I looked to my side, I saw Lefty standing next to me holding his ears.

"Dammit Tim! I thought I told you not to fire that thing!"

"Woah-ho-ho dude, I'm not the one who sneaked up on you, now am I?"

"****, they're all heading towards us. Listen, you go to the car and stop any zombies from getting to it. I'll get the keys and meet up with you as soon as I can."

"Caaan do, bro."

He turned and went off to a building at the other side of lot while I set my eyes towards the car in the window. All of the Walkers were heading towards us. I hopped up on one the cars and surveyed the area. Correction, they were all heading towards me.

"Whew, you buggers really want some of this?" I hopped onto the next car and said, "Come and get some!"

I continued hopping from car to car until I reached the glass plane separating me from the beauty inside. I gently streaked the glass with my fingers until I heard moaning behind me, and not the good kind. I ran for the open door to the showcase and slammed it shut behind me, but I immediately regretted the decision.

Facing me was an army of zombies the likes of which I'd never even dreamed of. "Well, I guess today's a good day die." I said and began firing into the crowd.

A voice called to me, "Tim!"

I opened my eyes and found myself staring at a white canvas.

"Who put this wall here?"

"Shut up and get in the car." It was Lefty.

I didn't question how he got here before me, but instead made my way towards the passenger seat while Lefty hopped into the driver's. Once I hopped in and shut the door, I found myself looking down at a steering wheel. The car was a right-hand drive.

We looked at each other and he shoved the keys in my lap, "There's no time."

"Dude, this is gonna be sooo siiick." I told him, starting up the engine.

Kara Ovel

We quickly left the camp before noon, making the two mile trek to the city. We were headed to a place called Kyle's Chevrolet New & Pre-Owned.

Out of the 15 car dealerships in the area, those three we are going to had the most cars, therefore, the most and hopefully the best place to find a vehicle. I wanted a sturdy Silverado, but Mary had other plans. She wanted a smart car. Small, eco-safe, but also small.

So it was decided, we're getting a Silverado.

Our dealership was the farthest away from our camp, but it has the most vehicles left behind when everyone abanded the city.

I had my tomahawk at the ready as we neared the city. I pulled out one of my daggers and handed it to Mary. Much as I hated her, I needed her alive for this mission, and that rifle makes way too much noise. "Take this. Don't use the rifle unless we need to."

She nodded, her deamenor taking on a more serious tone. I saw an abandoned car, and took cover as we entered the city limits. There were two walkers crawling around on the interstate, mindlessly searching the streets for fresh meat to devour.

"Okay, I don't see any walkers except for those two. I'll get the left, you get the right. And remember," I grabbed her arm as she stood up, "Do not use that rifle. I plan on making this day alive and making it back to camp." She nodded, uncertain whether or not to listen to me. She better listen to me, or she won't have to use that rifle, I'll use it.

I snuck up to the the walker, its back to me, droning around a semi-truck that had a skeleton hanging out of its door, probably smelling a little bit of rotten flesh left on the husk.

I reached up and put my tomahawk handle on his neck, strangling him and pulling him backwards. He tried to grab my arm, his mouth opening and closing, trying to get a taste of my living flesh. He iterated nothing, for my tomahawk was closing his windpipe. I pulled him down to the ground and let go of him quickly, jumping away so he couldn't grab ahold of me.

Being the stupid creature he was, it took him a little while to realize he was not walking anymore, but crawling. He pulled his arms up slowly, trying to get ahold of concrete road and failing.

I struck his neck with my blunt blade, severing his body from his head about a quarter. I struck several more times, decapitating the zombie completely. I then walked over to the semi, moving the carcass and inspecting the back of the cabin. Jackpot. There was a small ten gallon jug that was half full.

I look at Mary. She had stabbed the zombie in the back and then stabbed her in the head. Of course she would stab her in the back, she's used to doing things like that by now.

She looked at me, pure determination in her. There's a look that I've never seen on her. I nodded, a sign of temporary trust. For now, I know that she could watch my back, without stabbing it hopefully. "Let's go." I said, and I handed her a brown cloth so she could wipe of the blade.

I looked at the buildings. They were worn down, shadows of the miseries that happened not even two months ago. The highway was a minefield of dusted cars and trucks that haven't been used for awhile. It seems that the overall dread that the walkers brought with them affected not only living beings but nonliving beings.

"We'll go around the buildings, they're a deathtrap. Who knows how many walkers occupy that. We'll stick to the streets until we reach the dealership. Expect to see more walkers. Treat every one of them as if it was your first. Don't underestimate them. Even though they're slow and incredibely stupid, they're dangerous in small areas and in groups." She nodded, handing me back the cloth. I didn't mind the bloody cloth, I have a horrible sense of smell and I was used to getting my hands dirty. I stuffed the cloth in an inside pocket of my suit.

"Okay then, let's go."

The rest of the walk was surprisingly empty of the walkers. We noticed a few, but they stayed away from us, and we them, acting like spiders. If you left them alone and wasn't too annoying, then they would leave you alone, but if you mess with any, then they will come and bite you in the ass, sometimes literally. Siphoning gas along the way from any vehicle that had more than an ounce from their tank.

I saw the sign. Kyle's Chevrol--Owned

The rest was knocked off, how I have no clue.

"Well, here we are." I said quietly. "Let's go find us a car."
