Is heaven reserved only for those
with a gleam of divinity
in their eyes?
Only for those able to grapple
the fact that they are damned—
(damn fools)
or rather
Condemned to put their faith in a man
who quietly entered history
and left in earthquakes and torn curtains.
How far is the fall from heaven?
When Lucifer fell,
tumbled down through the
dew embroidered lace of cloud--
fell from his graces,
fell out of his love.
Not far enough
to knock some sense into him.
We have never left the ground,
yet we are made to fly--
(To fall…)
so fast we can’t see
how quickly the ground is approaching,
the hard shock of reason--
That reminds us that we have to answer
to something greater than ourselves
but that amasses in something as
trivial as a breath of air,
a blade of grass,
a conception of an idea,
dancing behind a shroud of faith,
calling out to see if he can’t catch our attention.
Stifling his giggles,
as we seek the source of the noise.
The definitive realization that
man lives and dies,
while God laughs aloud.
Let the enduring joke between us
remain unsaid.
Just remember that all ends lead to new means,
and don’t forget to open your parachute
before your reveries impact
upon your unyielding rationale.
