I know it says that I've been here since November, but I had a minor falling out with reality and isolated myself for a while... I am back now, though, and intend to stick around for a while! :] I like to write, but my tastes for writing change quite frequently, so my stories might range in genre and style. Right now I've found an interesting story on my computer and have started to work on finishing it. I just read up to the point where things start feeling less realistic, so I'm working on editing that.

I've got my Bachelors in Creative Writing and am working on getting a Masters in Elementary Education. I'm writing a webcomic (that will find an official site as soon as I have a month's or so pages for updating) and I work on large, extremely detailed works of art. I sing occasionally.

Since I'm in grad school you can deduce that I'm not that 'young,' and I'll admit I'm out of teenagerdome (thank heavens). But I'll admit I'm still young in the grand scheme of things. :] I'm still working on a lot of things, so I'm open to any and all critiques (as long as they're constructive, and not cruel), and I give critique.

Nice to have you here, you sound like an interesting person ^_^ Will you edit that story of yours to be more realistic or even more fantasy-ish (or whatever genre it falls into)?

I do very detailed art too :D is there somewhere one can see your works? Also, I'd like to hear from you what's it like to study Creative Writing (my choice too, but I'll have to work to earn for the fees for a year first, huh)..

Ok, I kind of attacked you :p Welcome, I hope to see your works and reviews soon ^_^ and I don't think anyone here will ever be cruel in giving critiques :)

Thank you. The story is actually fantasy, but my teacher in college used to say that we have a job harder than God, being writers. See, anything can happen in real life--a person surviving a fall out of a building, for example, or waking up after 20 years of a coma, or seeing some awfully strange things; but writers? We're always doomed to have that one or several readers say, 'What? That doesn't seem realistic at all.' So, we have to keep that in mind while creating our stories. My story falls into the fantasy category, but I was reading what I'd written and got to a point where it was no longer 'realistic.' SO. The clear option is to amend that. :]

Studying CW is very difficult, but worth it. It's a lot of reading, analyzing, critiquing and writing crap. Lots and lots of crap. Another one of my professors used to tell us that we need to be okay and ready to write crap before we can write anything really good. It's like finding an unrefined stone; the first draft is that crappy, dull and ugly stone--but the more we work at it, the more we put effort and time and our hearts into the project, the shiner and more beautiful it gets. ;]

I can show you photo's on photobucket, but no actual site. Just send me a message and I'll link you. I'm trying not to mix my talents on one website so I'm not linking out to dA, and frankly, I'd like to stay largely anon here, so I'm trying not to link outward to any sites that I'm well known on. Starting fresh, y'know?

I'm also a writing grad - though it's been of no real use to me professionally (I graduated two years ago), but I can't deny it's been of great personal benefit. Anyway, I just wanted to assure you that there are a fair few of us oldies floating around. We like to keep an eye on the old place. :P

This site is incredible no matter one's age- I myself am 21 this year.

I like that, I thought of it that way often :D Though I kind of like making my characters go through stuff that don't seem very realistic at first, then giving the readers a damn good explanation (or hoping I do anyway) so they start trusting me again ^_^

Haha, sounds like something I could live like for a few years :mrgreen: I don't like reading out loud, though, but I guess I'd survive that too if someone would demand it (I saw it on pictures).. Not that I'm a person who's more interested in money than in doing what I love, but I'm curious anyway - do you think it really improves the writing style and help one's books be more loved by the readers? Or is it true that, if you have talent, you'll find your path even without proper education, and if you don't have talent than you won't even with all the education of the world? (I've been told that a lot, and though I tend to think romantic thoughts myself, I can hardly agree, at least with the first part)

I'd like to see :) and yes, I get it.. Starting fresh surely does good from time to time, especially if it's for a reason ^^

Monkeys! I do like monkeys. :] And robots. Do you have robot monkeys, too?

Yeah, the writing professionally thing hasn't been terribly useful for a life-thing, but as you said, it's great for personal benefit. I more like to write for fun and to see what I can accomplish--also because I have so many ideas that I can't keep them all straight, so better to write 'em down than lose them, y'know?

Good to know there's still a few oldies here. :]

Thank you! I do like my name. :] I've only recently started using it, but it sorta seems to fit.

And yay! Non-teens! I mean, I love teens. They're fabulously dramatic and fun to speak with, but I feel old around 'em.

My favorite book? Singular, would have to be The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostav. My favorite author is Tamora Pierce though, and I love her Lioness Quartet more than life itself. :] Young reading, but there's something about it that still pulls my strings.

A good thing to have is faith to help oneself; personally, I take time to myself before I think about faith when I'm separated from reality. Mostly because the reason for separating means that I have a lot to work on inwardly. Faith, however, is a great reason for comfort when I am down. :]

Oh good, I don't feel quite so old, but still older than you. Heh.

If you still have a liking for young readers' books, I know a few good 'uns. There's my favorite, Bridge to Terebithia and the first novel I ever read, Martin the Warrior. (Martin's is a sad story, but well worth it. Trust me.)

A B.A in Creative Writing is awesome! ^-^ I'm 22 myself, so I'm also part of the "older" crowd here on YWS ;) But there's nothing wrong with that, I always say that you're as young as you feel. You'll find we've got all types around here, and we're a pretty close-knit and welcoming community, as you can see :D

I absolutely love your avatar though! Where is that image from? :O
