Jace

"The baby thing," i say, studying her back. "There's an old routine, devised by Nic's ancestry. It might work."

Rayah

I nod, "What will we have to do?"

Jace

I set a hand on the side of her face, "He'll have to get one of the elders here. I don't remember the specifics. I just know that's how Nic's baby brother was born, that it works."

Rayah

I study him before nodding.

Jace

I nod back and sigh, "It has something to do with... light creation and everything. You'd be able to carry the baby if you want, I think. Nic didn't explain it well."

Rayah

I nod and move some of my hair out of my face, "Later though. Once I'm...mentally stable to control my thirst around humans."

I hear someone walk in the apartment - surprisingly good hearing - and swear as they walk out on the patio.

"Oh!" she covers her eyes, looking away, "I'm sorry."

My eyes grow red and I look away as well, trying to control it.

Jace

I suppress my thirst, focusing on the fact that we're exposed, and cover Rayah. My eyes turn red for a second before I blink them back to blue, "You... might wanna leave now, miss. Preferably quickly."

Rayah

I realize it's Jackie, Nic walking in behind her.

"Why?" Jackie asks, "Just...get dressed please."

My fangs eject and I swallow, my skin growing pale. We're night crawlers. We're more dangerous at night. F*ck.

Jace

I hold Rayah close and look pleadingly at Nic, "Please. Not tonight. Go."

Rayah

I breathe heavily and find I'm sweating, before covering my mouth and keeping faced away.

Jace

Nic studies us before taking Jackie's hand, "C'mon. We can come back tomorrow."

Rayah

Jackie slowly nods before walking out and I close my eyes, taking deep breaths.

Jace

I watch them go before looking down at Rayah and setting her face in my neck, "Get it out before we both lose it."

Rayah

I sink my teeth into his neck, allowing myself to feed.

Jace

I close my eyes and hold her close as she does, slowly losing my thirst.
