How to Slay a Dragon

*lame title*

This is probably one of my first attempts at drawing a dragon. They look so complicated but I think it turned out ok. It's supposed to look a bit Chinese, and be on the more serpent-oriented of dragon types. I also made a go at drawing a background.





Personally, I think the colors look much better on the dragon without the background. Again, I had trouble with layers, and if you look closely between the two, the dragon in the final is much more yellow and missing some detail. Well, I can see it xP

Hello Sheep. This is great! I really like the dragon, although I find it too smooth. Maybe you could give it scales, wings, or legs, although it is good enough like that, it might make it a bit more 'dragonish'. But the head is really good, and so is the girl with her weapon. Just a little thoughts... Keep it up!

I love the dragon's head, but I agree if it had scales or something it'd look so much more like a dragon. But I do like the smoothness of it.

And I love dragons by the way. I used to always draw them and I did a couple of okay ones but then there were some shockers haha.

I love how simplistic this is. It's got just enough detail but not overwhelmed by it. And I'm so jealous of your water color skills.

Got any watercolor tips?

My only problem is with the way she's holding the weapon. She seems to be passively holding. What she should really be doing is gripping it tightly.
I mean, how would you hold the only thing between you and a very painful death?

It definintely looks chinese. It just needs scales to finish the picture. It looks a little simple in front of the girl. And it doesn't even look like this is your first dragon. You could add spikes to it as well, grey ones maybe. I'm just suggesting. The picture looks complete as it is. Why don't you try drawing dragons with wings? Those are the tricky ones but I think you can pull it off if you try. And did you use copic markers? I love the girl's dress. I can never come up with ideas like that. My dresses are usually very simple. Your drawings are always so bright and eye catching. And I love the way you've shaded the entire background. It almost looks real. Excellent work.

More of an amazin dragon's face on a well sketched eel body.
Not that it looks bad, its WAAAY better than the earlier works of your's I've reviewed, but this looks more like a romantic/fantastic piece than an actual battle (like a dragonheart vibe going on) which I'm not sure was your intent. The girl, while very well sketched, doesn't show any intensity in her body language, no tightened hands, raised, muscles flexed (as much as it can be), very passive as on e reviewer stated.

That said I love her outfit and the shoes esp, the contrast between her and the dragon. Dragon's face is brilliant, unqiue.
