Hello YWS!

So after a few days of poking around I finally decided to join up. My observation has revealed that this forum is pretty cool.

Let me start off by saying that opening up to complete strangers is not my forte, so bear with me. First of all, I'm not sure if I qualify as "young". I'm 24 years old (25 next month), but despite my age I am a COMPLETE "newbie" when it comes to writing. I wouldn't even call myself a "writer" (not yet anyway).

I'm not illiterate or anything, but I have never written any substantial work of fiction. (You know, the stuff people actually enjoy reading). I graduated with a B.A. in Economics in 2011 (I must sound even older now haha), but I have yet to find a job in my field. Ironically, a degree in econ prepared me for the poor job market before I even started looking. I currently only work 2-3 days a week at a job going nowhere. I have a bunch of time on my hands compared to my high school/college days.

I decided to join the YWS because I have recently been inspired to write a Fantasy novel (or three . . . *sigh*). Not only was I inspired and motivated, but I actually have the time to do it! The only problem is I don't really read/write for pleasure or as a hobby. So I consider myself a "young" writer even if I'm not a young person anymore. I hope that makes sense.

By the way, if I have a specific question about writing I post it in "The Writer's Corner" correct?
I'll post an info/bio in a little bit. (That's what new people are supposed to do right?) Sorry if this first post was too long.

Hi there, Stan. Yes, fantasy novels do tend to come in threes, don't they? Anyway. One of the good things about YWS is that there's room for essays and works of art too.

Hello, Stan, and yes, there's room for everything here.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
btw, I really doubt you qualify as a 'newbie' at writing - I read your piece of work and found it wonderful. :) :)

Thank you Stori and ItalianIllumnist.

I guess what I meant to say is I'm new at writing fiction (not writing in general). The piece I posted here is my first attempt at serious creative writing. (outside of a bunch of English assignments that I can no longer remember haha)

I just wrote what sounded good to me. Thanks for the positive feedback.
