In a far-away world of magic and monsters, between the icy mountains, the marshes of the goblin tribes and the Elvin Queen's Great Forest lies Baluchinople, the biggest, most multicultural city in the world. Genii's flee from their faraway desert homeland to the city, seeking a new life free from bondage.
The city is ruled by the humans and elves, especially in the ancient Wizard University. Long ago they opened their doors to women, but only recently have they accepted genii's and goblins whose magics (Genii's- fire, powder, smoke-form, goblins- ancient charms) are viewed as inferior; many of the professors are still prejudiced.
The first goblin pupil, Gorbak, turned evil after the way he was treated and for ten years has wreaked havoc on the city, killing as many of the wizards as possible. This is the first year the university has reopened and many new professors are to join as well as the pupils.
Many will try but few will succeed and some may even die trying to become wizards.
So who are you? A human, elf, dwarf, genii, goblin, mixture or something completely different? Are you from an ancient wizarding family or are you an immigrant from the desert? Do you sympathise with Gorbak, maybe you're even a member of his dark army? What is your magic speciality (Pyromancy, Mathomancy etc.)?

Sounds interesting, but I'd like to know a bit more, especially about the races and various types of magic. :D

The races are;
Humans- Like humans, but some have magical capabilities.
Elves- Very good at earth magic, specifically plant magic. Most live in forests and some can talk to animals or trees.
Dwarves- A few are talented at earth magic, specifically rock magic. Hardly any train as wizards because they're not normally very bright... Looked down upon. Often work as miners, sometimes enslaved.
Djinn- Flee to Baluchinople to escape the Mighty Emperor in their homeland of Zanrel, who enslaves djinn. Good at fire magic, alchemy, powder potions and can turn into smoke.
Goblins- From tribal groups, often move to the cities to seek better lives. They have ancient tribal magic with charms and curses.
The students will all do basic magic courses, as well as learning about their speciality magic. It's basically mastering your element or whatever and using it for spells. Don't make a genii who specialises in water! Djinn melt if they come into contact with lots of water. A dwarf probably wouldn't do Mathomancy because they're a bit stupid (Mathematicians often become inventors and such. Verbamancers sometimes write spells.)
You can make up a bit more about your magic.
I hope that helped- please join!

Is there a consistent plot?
(Actually, I don't tend to place plots high on my priorities. My own SB 'Gods, Champions and Magic' has one, but it's just a basic guideline).
Could psychic or sleep magic be an option? (if so, I totally claim the psychic (neuromancy, maybe?) teacher.

The plot will involve stopping Gorbak at some point... I might let the wizards settle in a bit first though!
Could you explain a bit about sleep magic? Mind control could be to do with psychic stuff... That could be a good opportunity for a slightly evil character.
Hopefully I'll be able to do the headmaster's profile tomorrow.

The types of magic;
Fire/water/earth/air: Controlling the element and bending it to one's will. Extremely powerful wizards can blast fire out of their hands or create tornadoes, tsunamis, avalanches etc. Some can also turn elements into each other, although turning fire to water or earth to air is particularly hard.
Ancient Magic- The oldest magic from the days when things were simpler. Extremely powerful but hard to master; it requires the user to be at peace and let go a little. Sometimes, powerful wizards who haven't mastered this magic can accidentally do dreadful things in great anger though.
Mathomancy and Verbomancy: These magics require their users to be extremely academic. Many geniuses attempt to learn these magics but discover they have little magical ability and instead become writers or mathematicians. Mathomancy can be used for inventions and Verbomancy for skills. They also involve bending the words or numbers to the users will; one extremely powerful Mathomancy once made four add five equal ten and the world nearly ended! Although these magics may seem very boring, they have a lot of capability to be used evilly.
Necromancy- Often thought of as an evil magic, this can be used to suck life from things and put the life into other things. It can be used for good but is often used by powerful evil wizards to prolong their lives to thousands and thousands of years by stealing the lives of others. People have been seen to crumple and die almost instantaneously when their lives are stolen. It can also be used to transfer strength and other things from one to another and to form a psychic link. Unless extremely talented, one needs the consent of the other to use this on them. A master of this magic is said to be able to bring people back from the grave...

Sleep magic- the ability to exert one's mind or emotions in order to put victims to sleep (duh). Powerful ones can place their targets in a comatose state for an undetermined period of time. Sleep magic is a skill one is born with. The very presence of a powerful one can make the people and even animals drowsy, and it is said they cast no shadow.
Is that okay?.

Yes, that sounds great! You can submit your profile whenever you like. If you'd like to double and teach another subject too than that would be cool.

Name: Jace van Daylen
Age: thirty-three
Race: human mage
Pupil/professor: professor of neuromancy and sleep magic
Specialty: neuromancy and sleep magic (duh)
History: He was raised in a tribe of skilled neuromancers (where he learned his prodigious skills), though he was the bastard son of a sleep lord of the east. At the brink of manhood, he journeyed to find his father (learning skills and collecting cool artifacts along the way), and upon reaching his opulent palace, learned he was involved with the goblin politics, of which he was thrown in the midst. Then deciding at a young age that teaching was his calling, he moved to Baluchinople Academy.
Personality: He has an even, calm, and understanding personality. He is likable and trusting, although has a shrewd calculating side.
Appearance: Average height, mousy brown hair, sharp facial features, lean and thin. He wears sloppy traveling clothes usually, and has an impressive pair of sideburns.
Anything else (pets, weird skills etc.): he has a diamond studded golden pocket watch, his prized possession, a gift from a goblin mage, which also happens to measure truth through a series of symbols (Yes, I have read the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy :D ).

Profile:
Name: Professor. J. S. Bilberry-Laurel (Juniper Sage)
Age: 124
Race: Pure elf with some royal blood, and very proud of this.
Professor: Headmaster
Speciality: He's a professor of ancient magic as well as being a doctor of verbamancy, mathomancy and aquamancy and having a few degrees on the side.
History: Was born to an ancient line of magical elves living near Baluchinople. He came to study at the university aged 18 and hasn't left for the last 106 years, apart from a brief period when he transferred to a mountain university which he found far too cold. He worked his way up and has now been headmaster of Baluchinople University of Wizarding for the past 53. While most of his colleagues respect him, some quite fancy his position and can't wait for him to retire. And, if Sage doesn't watch his back they might not wait much longer.
Personality: Though good-hearted and kindly, Sage isn't really a people person. He enjoys spending long hours writing his books, and although capable of delivering inspiring speeches he struggles conversing with his pupils and staff. Some view him as a doddery old fool, which is not quite true, but on days when his thoughts are far away considering the workings of magic (he is also something of a philosopher) he has been known to come down to breakfast in his pyjamas and walk into doors. He cares deeply about his pupils academic success and feels each pupil's failure as his own.
Appearance: He makes quite a comical figure being rather short, unusual for elves, and plump. He has half-moon glasses which he's always losing and a hat which finds itself squashed into the strangest shapes. He has a very long bushy beard and moustache and his robes (or dressing-gown) are stained and creased.
Other: He has a faithful pet owl, Wilfred, and as well as being an academic and a philosopher is a skilled celloist.

Awesome! Great character!
Hopefully some other people will join and we can get this started...
Neuromancy is Mathomancy, yes? Neuromancy's a better name, although they should still be called Mathemagicicans. :pirate3:
