My first story!
Anyways, you are in a land known as Arcanavale, where mythical beasts roam free, gods stalk the earth, and champions of all races journey into the unknown to seek adventure and glory. The usual stuff.
Basically, you can be anything (if you choose to be a god, make sure to specify. I'll provide the rules and limitations), and do anything (warn me and the creator of a character if you wish to kill anyone off. Nobody likes that).
Provide character description (name, age, gender), personality, race and background. Be as detailed as possible please.
However, there is a twist: magic, or mana (it's the same) a primordial force which grants power over the elements, and even time, space and destiny, is changing, and this will radically affect sorcerers and those skilled in the art. Only the Guardians are unaffected, and, wielding a magic based on emotions, they must uncover what is causing this unprecedented change.
Why this change is wrought is because mana-beings, creatures born from the experiments of a single mad scientist whose name has been obliterated from history and memory because of his atrocities. These mana-beings are of primitive intellect, but their only goal is to reach the elusive Genesis Tower, a legendary construction which regulates the flow of mana, and gorge themselves upon the substance, thus effectively destroying the universe by throwing it into irreparable damage.
However, the scientist that originally created the mana-beings (me) was never found, and this is because he retreated to the realm of mana via a now destroyed portal. Then he returned as the incarnation of mana, coerced the mana-beings into working for him, and they, recognizing the vast amount of power he possessed, followed him blindly. This scientist then hired sentient lieutenants of all races to form an elite group known as the Mana Shadows. Their objective is to use the mana-beings to get to the Genesis Tower, where they will 'hack' into it, re-arranging the flow of mana so that they are masters of it, and by extension the world, also obliterating the mana-beings during the process.
However, a man (whose origin, name and everything I leave to the person that wishes to be him), originally wanting to join the Mana Shadows saw through their claim to a better world and fled, forming a Guild of heroes, led by him and two other elders, to foil the Mana Shadow's scheme.
We need four Mana Shadow lieutenants, and all the members of the good guy's Guild. Also an infinite number of NPC's and other neutral characters.
Note that this is the main plot, but not the only one. Neutral characters can feel free to pursue any other activity at their leisure.
No excessive swearing, no sex, proper grammar and punctuation are encouraged. Normal YWS rules apply

This sounds interesting. What character options are there? And what is the plot?

Name: Yimule Of Gonhaven

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Age: 13

Occupation: Mage

Appearance: She stands at a mere 4'8', but her green eyes pierce anyone who dares look down on her. She has dark brown hair made striking by two golden petal that lie flat on either side of the curvature of her head. The golden petals are connected to a small see through white scarf that she often covers her face with. She wears a simple white robe with a orange strap in the middle. The logo of her tribe lies at the centre of her robe.

Example Image:

Spoiler

History: Yimule was born into the Gonhaven tribe as soon as their mage died. In the Gonhaven tribe their only mage, who is always a young girl dies and passes her power on to a girl who is yet to be born. This unborn girl when born is seen to have a scar of a petal on her feet, this is the mage's mark. In the years where the young girl can't learn magic the tribe go into hibernation. Yimule was able to use magic to aid the tribe only 3 years ago...bringing them out of hibernation & into a period that will hopefully signal growth.

Personality: Yimule is a gentle soul. She knows her only purpose to live is to help her people. During her training as a mage she discovered the great secret of the mages; a truly terrifying truth (BTW this truth isn't whatever the magic twist in the story is going to be). Her entire life is devoted to serving her tribe and hiding this secret. Yimule is very fond of books, she wants to gather all the knowledge in the world and make sure children of the tribe become well educated. For this reason she also wants to be a teacher. You won't find Yimule joking ever, many times you will see her staring into the distance with a all knowing expression on her face, it is this calmness that motivates the tribe to overcome any & all of its struggle.

Secretly Yimule's biggest wish is to be able to go beyond the Northern mountains just to see what lies there and if there is anything new to learn about.

Other: Not up for love as she is too young for it to be appropriate and as a character she can't commit herself to anything of the sort.

Thebookworm-
Well, there are many, many character options, many of which I can't think of. Feel free to ask me if you come up with a new idea. Some of the character races can include: Elf; Vampire; Werewolf; Human; God (there are rules and limitations); Lich Lord (think a zombie, but without the weaknesses, and the ability to cast magic, as well as formulate speech and rational thought. No, you don't crave human flesh. Yes, you're evil); Gargoyle; Titan (gigantic humanoids with elemental powers); Dragon (they have human avatars); Phoenix (avatars, again); Unicorn (avatar); Elemental (the anthropomorphic personification of an element, eg. water, earth, fire, etc, or any of their sub-elements, eg ice, warmth, lightning); and any of the crossbreeds, as in Dhampir, Daemon (son/daughter of a demon and a mortal), Demi-God, Nephilim (son/daughter of any angelic being and a mortal).... there are many more.
Each person is also divided in an occupation (what they do), as in warrior, spellcaster, professional criminal, you know the drill. These are just here so that everyone gets a clearer picture of the character, so be sure to include them in their profile. Also, you can claim up to three characters.
As for the plot, I just edited my first idea, so it's up there. Remember, sub-plots (within limits) are encouraged, but I must stress that they should ask me first. Every bad guy is a bad guy to stop! :D
By the way, I call being the leader of the mana-beings *evil chuckle*

DarthAJ-
that sounds great! keep in mind that the nature of magic is only one, and although there are many sub-categories, all those proficient in magic must follow them. I can give you a more detailed explanation if you tell me what your character's magic ability is.

I see. My character's magic ability is only of aid. So she can heal and help in stuff like construction, growing of plants, development of stuff. She never uses her powers in an offensive way.

In simple terms she's basically a healer/enhancer.

Great, okay!
Well, healing is actually a really simple magic here: a healer simply taps into to the force of mana/nature, and applies that power to whatever task he/she needs to do. Note that there are drawbacks- use too much power, and you risk entering a vegetative state, from which there is no return.
Also, the rise of the mana-beings corrupted mana, which brought a change know as the Darkfest, where abilities are twisted to the dark side of magic. For example, a Darkfest healer will tap into nature and drain it (nearby plants and stuff will rot), however it's very risky and could corrupt the user. Although useful on your enemies (it works on living tissue... nasty way to go). The Darkfest will also be principal opponents

Cool that sounds pretty interesting.

May I reserve a Phoenix spot?
I'm never what I like
I'm double sided
And I just can't hide
I kind of like it
When I make you cry
'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up
Inside

Semiautomatic
twenty one pilots

@UpandOut15

Yeah, sure, go ahead :D. In this particular story, phoenixes are asexual in their creature form (they reproduce by a complicated series of events, which is why there are so few babies. They were created at the dawn of time by the Fae Queen [yes, somebody can reserve a spot for her], and their numbers haven't changed much since then), and they only have one fixed human avatar (that does have a gender). Phoenixes are immortal, hence the first time they transform, they must also choose a permanent age. They are incredibly strong and fast, and a weapon fletched with phoenix feathers will kill anything regardless of magical wards, if it manages to hit a mortally dangerous spot. This does not apply to the phoenixes whose feathers they belonged to, and it does not apply if the feathers are stolen or deliberately picked (do you pick feathers?). A phoenix can only give them as a gift, and will only shed feathers one day every fifty years, at dawn.
If you would like to add something, feel free to.

Would I be able to claim a god?
If at first you don't succeed then destroy any evidence that you ever tried

@Lothbrok-
Ahh! Spiders! I'm terrified by your avatar :smt009
Yes, you could claim a god. However, there are many restrictions which can, at time, be... inconvenient.
First off, you'd have to chose what to incarnate (an emotion, an ideal, the beliefs of a civilization, etc).
Then, you MUST follow these guidelines (sorry if I sound too strict, but really, this is meant to be fun for everybody):
1) you cannot alter the plot, character's nature, or anything of the sort in any way (we're talking gods here, not sues).
2) you cannot directly interfere in the affairs of other gods or mortals (that's what mortal champions [NPC's or other willing people] are for). This extends to foretelling anything (which you could technically do if you asked me to, although I would allow small prophecies), changing anything, or any similar stuff. You can, however, assume a personification and walk the earth.
3) You must have at least one weakness, as well as limitations to your power.
4) please ask me (in the DT) before you want to do anything major.
Apart from that, you're completely immortal, nigh invulnerable and nigh omniscient.

To all would-be-gods in my story-

You should write in third person (better to emulate omniscience), or in actual close omniscient person if you're daring enough.

Everyone else please write in first person.
