Strange Eyed Girl

So this is a girl that I've always drawn, BUT I got a graphics tablet, so now she is more computer-ified. Anyway, this is a first attempt, any comments and suggestions would be hugely appreciated - I'm new to the tablet world... (big time). Thanks.

Hi Mo! Since I've had my tablet for over a year, maybe I can be of some help x)

First off, I really love the character design. For some reason it reminded me of Caroline or one of those Tim Burton movies. Maybe it's just me though. But I love her long, wavy hair and her expression.

I think the coloring could be improved by making the lines look a little less sketchy. The awesome thing about digital coloring is that you can ALWAYS erase mistakes or click the undo bottom without screwing up your picture. It won't leave paint smears or weird erase marks you might get with real media. So there's tons of polishing and editing used to get the picture looking as perfect as you can. Take advantage of the eraser tool and get rid of all messy lines to get a clean outline.

For the coloring itself, it takes a while to get used to. I noticed that you left a lot of white spaces on her solid black shirt, which is just because of quick coloring. Spend some time to really fill in all the gaps and color the whole thing. You also should start playing around with layer commands, which is a whole different story, but once you get the hang of them they are really handy. By setting layers to multiply, or overlay, it can make adding shadows or highlights a breeze. I suggest looking up digital tutorials on youtube because those can explain things much better than I can xD

I've learned that for digital art, the key to awesome pictures is mostly the amount of time you spend on it. Something that has really helped me was drawing a sketch with real pencil and then scanning that onto my computer, and tracing and coloring over it with an art program. If you have a scanner, you might want to give that a try.

Glad I could help Oh, and I forgot to mention how to post your picture bigger. Try going to tinypic.com and uploading your pic, resizing to 'message board'. It's what I do and they seem to come out nicely. You just need to copy and paste the [IMG] code onto your post and viola.

Hey Mo!

First of all, I must say that I really liked your character. She has uniqueness and style in her. This drawing, to be honest, is simple-even a kid might be able to draw it, but thinking it is tough. You know getting the idea for such a character is something which needs appreciation.

She looks like a cute alien, and looking at her for long might give me a story idea. lol. But I like her.

About the coloured picture, I've got to say that it doesn't really interest me. Then the plain one is just too plain. So, I was thinking that you might be able to strike a balance and give it a nice atmosphere-dark like the character.

I really don't have much to say and I think BlackSheep here has done a pretty good job. Just take her advice and you'll have a wonderful piece here.

Creepy yet cool

Hey Mo!

I love Art and I usually am good at reviewing drawings and paintings! I judge my brother's art a lot so, I sort of know how to get this through.

Now let's start of from:

General: When I say general, I mean the overall how it is. To tell you the truth, if this was only the first picture, I would totes liked it a lot. <3' But somehow, the second picture didn't really impress me much. I'll be going on to that later. Though, I must say, it was a good try! And you can be an excellent artist.

First Picture: Here, I like the girl and its strange eye. The hair was excellent, I must say first. Though the body is too tiny. Its like these characters from virtual worlds. Lol xD Only the body shape was little tiny but other than that, I like her creepiness and that expression on her face. Fabu! ^.^

Second Picture: Okay, let's start with the nice ones. The girl, is explained in the first picture. And I sort came to notice that her pockets were nicely drawn this time than the first one. xP Haha. Now, what I didn't like about this picture was that it was too bright for the picture. The girl is sunk in black, grey and white, and when bright colors come in, it doesn't really go with the character you've drawn. Though when you take two of them SEPARATELY, they'd be awesome! Especially the bright background (separate).

I think you have great imagination and you have strong abilities to become a great artist! Keep Drawing, my mate!
