In this post, I decided to take images of my project at different stages so you guys can see the progression.

Image #1: Is the basic cell block untextured. Nothing fancy about it.

Image #2: Here I added a wall to the right with some barred windows and chimney stacks. I also included a floor and a ceiling in this picture.

Image #3: Next I added an entrance gate at the very back to give the place some depth. I'm not sure if you can see it, but there is a door there.

Image #4: Started adding some texture and then placed a light in a cell for added creepy-ness. I also just noticed how the shadow on the gate in the very back looks like face. 0_0

Image #5: Yet more texturing, moved the light closer to the camera because I decided that so far away it didn't look as creepy.

Final Image: I dimmed the lights, finished texturing and now I got a final product. And by the looks of it, something has claimed a cell. (Question: Should I make the silhoutte taller?)

That is a vary creepy looking prison blocks, Good job on the texturing the small details like the rust on the walls and bars, and the shadow of the person thats occupying that cell. I think if you make the shadow of the person a little bit taller, that would make it look more creepy, if thats what you want it to be.

Ok, here we go, the final picture for this project. The silhouette has been made taller and I gave him a thicker neck because he started making me think of ET.

Wow! you did make the silhouette taller and thicker.
I have an idea, how about some spooky moonlight coming in thru the windows on the upper right side, the light could come in at an angle so it can light up the lower floor just a little bit. I don't know, it's up to you.
It looks good, good job Varg.

I love all of these things. They're so real looking and it's so cool XP how does this program work, by the way? Like, how do you go about creating these pictures?

I love this prison thing. It really is creepy. It reminds me of an old penitentiary, kinda feels like you should be calling some ghost hunters or something to check it out haha

I think the only nit pick I have, and I don't know if it's just me or what, but in the latest fished picture, the silhouette doesn't look like a silhouette to me at all. Really, it just looks like there's something in the way of the light, or it's just some natural break in the light. The picture before you enlarged it looked more like a person, with the shoulders and head that you could clearly see, but I can't see any of those details in the final one.

Other than that, everything looks pretty spot on, and I would not want to be walking through there by my self haha

It's a lot easier than it looks, especially on something of this scale. What you do is design one of the objects and just have it duplicated. If you look close enough you will be able to see where one cell in and the other begins. Then you just got to add little details even though people won't see it. For example, there is a door at the bottom of the gate in the far back, but you can't see it in the final image, plus, a wall behind it. Even the opposite is true where I just didn't work on things because I knew you wouldn't see it. The walls inside the cell are complete untexturized and are completely empty (except the one with our friend). Everything is pretty easy to make, it just takes forever especially when you render. When I rendered this, it took nearly half an hour for my laptop to spit out the final picture. In another note, I tried making a small animation where the light in the cell flickers and the figure will disappear, but that ain't going to happen, because it took nearly 1.5hours just to do 3 frames and 1 second of video is 24 frames, so that will give you an idea of how long it would take to make an 10 second video. I might try it again and leave it to render overnight and part of the next day while I'm at work, but no guarantees because I would hate to burn out my hard drive.

Remember, if anyone wants to start doing something like this, please feel free to ask me. The program I use is completely free and can be downloaded on almost any system. Once I get this book on how to model human characters in the mail, I will start on a new project and hopefully I will have a person to show you next time.
