Hey! Okay! Here we go.

My name is Lauren (or, I guess, elms; with my luck, there'll be a whole hoard of Laurens running around here!). I'm from Alabama, which you may recognize as America's unofficial leprechaun haven. This seems like a nice place, although it's been a while since I last typed without chatspeak.

(Fun fact about me: I really, really love chatspeak. I am not joking. I get a genuine thrill out of dropping caps and making random line breaks. I leave an "I" lowercase and my heart leaps. It's sad.
Hopefully, though, in a literate environment like this one, I'll get used to typing like a coherent human being again!)

I pretty much grew up writing, but I've been out of the habit for a couple of years. Now I'm making my grand return, I guess - I get so many characters and scenes and musings stuck in my head, and I want to do something about it! So I've been reading a lot, as well as doing a lot of writing exercises, and joining a writing forum couldn't hurt my progress, could it?

What else... Arrested Development is my favorite thing on Earth. I call everything "silly," and I use the same turns of phrase over and over again. I care a lot about feminism, anti-racism, rape culture, LGBTQ issues, and generally not being obnoxious. I heavily judge people by their tastes in TV. I like tomatoes more than I rationally should.

I honestly did not mean to go on for so long; props to whoever makes it all the way down here. It's nice to meet you all! Thank you for reading! And, uh, happy trails! Or something. I really don't know what I'm doing. :)

Hello and welcome :) Glad to see a new writer here.

I quite enjoy studying feminism as well although, holy poop, some of it is really silly. You'd get this if you studied it [or were practically married to someone who studied it] in a college classroom. Feminists can be evil.

ANYWAY. If you have questions ask someone in green, or me. I've been here for a long time but not actually "Here" for a while, so I have no idea what is going on. I'm old.

Oh, that's why your avatar looked familiar. I remember that I hated Arrested Development at first, but I watched the first 3 episodes, and I began to enjoy it a bit.

Welcome to YWS.

One odd thing I've noticed about the people running for president is that the guy who want to make abortion and gay rights legal is (supposedly) a giant racist.

Aww, thank you!
Ha, yeah! There's always a little ridiculousness going on in any movement. While I wouldn't call anyone evil, per say, there are definitely some misguided (but usually well-intentioned, I think) people who end up being more destructive than they should have been. I'm glad somebody shares my interest!
Thank you for the advice; it's encouraging to hear that someone with your experience on the forum is as puzzled as I am. :)

Thanks for the welcome! It actually took me a while to get into the show, too - the humor's very distinctive, and I think I needed some time to get accustomed to it. I don't regret it. :)
While I'll have to throw out a big whopping citation needed in regards to your last comment, it's good to meet someone so open about their positions and beliefs. :)
