Hello.

Our English teacher did not come into school today, and was replaced by another, which I realized, was too an English teacher. Within the span of one class, he became an adversary of mine. Beginning the class with the statement, in an outrageously Irish accent, even in Ireland, 'A hit Shakespeare' (meaning 'I hate Shakespeare', as I later realised). I enjoy reading Shakespeare, and can understand with some concentration almost all that he writes. So, being spoken to like a dummy for the duration of 40 minutes reasonably deteriorated my mood. Not only was he talking about ways of avoiding reading the actual play while still passing the exam, he assumed that we hated Shakespeare too, mocking him.
Now, I did not feel sympathetic for Shakespeare, although somewhat angered, but this made me realise that some people do not enjoy reading his plays. So... How many people here actually enjoy reading his work? I, along with others, as I assume, would be interested. So... Back to Skyrim for now

The only problem with reading Shakespeare was a whole day after reading his plays, I could not stop rhyming couplets. XD

How can you claim yourself an English teacher without liking Spakespeare? As a future English teacher, I'm apalled. That's like being a math teacher and not liking Geometry.

He's awesome! Some of his stuff are better than others, and some are a bit difficult to understand, but amazing anyway.

I really like Shakespeare! That's stupid about your teacher. I agree, it can be rough to interpret everything at times, but I like that. You have to actually think. He's so clever - soooo many puns and references. And characters like Mercutio! Good stuff.

Also, I'm a total nerd and I like trying to memorize some of his soliloquies. I have Macbeth's "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow" and Hamlet's "To be or not to be" down so far. "To be or not to be" took a while, it's freaking long, but it contains some of my favorite lines ever written. I like reciting them to myself when I'm bored or could use the mental encouragement. His use of language and the universality of his themes: you just can't beat it.

He's only the best English author in history...

Often people aren't properly introduced to Shakespeare, and miss out. It's unfortunate.

I've read Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, and A MIdsummer's Night Dream. All very unique and much beloved by me, a mere C average senior in high school. What's that tell you?

Whew! I thought I was the only one who enjoyed Shakespeare!! I love Midsummer's Night Dream, I was the one in class who was laughing at the funny parts because I was the only one who understood it.Shakespere and I share the same birthday April 23!!!(Be jealous) I had an English teacher who hated Shakespeare too but other than that he taught me a lot of what I know right know about analyzing literature,oh well the good with the bad I guess.I think he's one of the greatest writer/playwright of all time, his stories are timeless

"But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the East and Juliet is the sun!" Heheheh... I always say that to my girly whenever I see her. We are living a Shakespearean romance... (Hopefully without all the deaths and suicides...)

I've never read or seen anything really and truly bye him, but I have seen a play of Romeo and Juliet (hope I'm not messing up here) put on by my town's highschool, though.
I don't always write on forums, but when I do, I prefer YWS.

Where is this English teacher? Like Laertes, I feel I should confront him.

It warms the very sickness in my heart that I shall live to tell him to his teeth 'Thus didst thou'.

... Yeah. I love Shakespeare. A lot.

Haha, wonderful phrase! I am glad that the general view of this forum reflects my own opinion of this topic. Although... I find it strange that writers such as Shakespeare are much more popular than other great writers such as H.P.Lovecraft (no one I know had ever heard of him), but that is a matter for another thread. Anyhow, thanks for the replies :)
